We have a 2 against 1 situation
this time around!

Can Iris en ciel stay high up in the sky?

Or will it be time to RAin Bow out?

You Decide! Venus and Adonis
$170
Price includes shipping in US and Canada

A random kiss so hot it could have happened on Venus. The kind of kiss that burns so hot, it leaves a mark! So break out your chapstick and sun screen, because thinks are about to get steamy, as we tell the tale of this raku pottery vase pairing ‘Venus & Adonis‘.

This kiss was so hot, it could have only happened between two vases in a raku fired reduction. We specialize in raku pottery, and part of that process involves removing vases from the kiln at around 1000 degrees, while the glaze is still molten.

When things are as hot as that

One needs protection from the heat, and even still I’ve singed the hair off my knuckles. Estheticians every where must be jealous of my secret trick for hair removal.

Pieces are then placed in a reduction bin, and everything needs to happen at a steady, yet frantic pace. In my last firing, two vases made contact during this process. Fortunately, I realized my mistake, and was able to separate ‘Venus & Adonis‘ before they were locked in a permanent embrace.

Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones who has experienced a kiss so hot that it is etched on yourself, much like this mythological vase pairing
Venus & Adonis‘.

Iris En Ciel
$80
Shipping included in Canada and US

Iris en Ciel’, tells the tale of sisters on opposite sides of a war, loyalty to the gods, travel by rainbow, and a goddess with a sweet tooth who was a messenger that would give the postal service a run for their money while bringing your prayers to the gods.

Fraternal twins Iris and her sister Arke, would both born to be messengers to the gods, but would have very different fates. Iris would remain loyal to the Olympian gods. Her sister Arke would choose to get mixed up with the wrong crowd. She would become messenger for the Titans in what would be their losing war against the gods of Olympus.

This mistake would cost Arke her wings and earn her ticket to the Titan prison known as Tartarus. Tartarus was a deep dark dungeon in the underworld. Not a very nice place, but she got off lightly compared to another Titan whose story we have told.

Iris, however, would not waver in her loyalty to the Olympian gods. She would remain their messenger. It was thought that she had a rainbow coat and used it to create rainbows to travel from place to place. In between what must have been her exhaustive duties as messenger for the rather high maintenance gods of Olympus, Iris would still find time for her other duties. Clearly the winged goddess knew the plight of a working woman!

Iris also helped humans connect with the gods. She assisted by bringing people’s prayers to the gods, and sometimes even intervening herself on someone’s behalf to their benefit.

Those in the know were aware that Iris had a sweet tooth. She really loved date squares, and those who were wise to this morsel of information would leave her a sweet honey cake. Have a prayer you want answered?

Better get baking!

Is Paradise a Myth?

A mythical city, located in a mystical valley and enclosed by the Kunlun Mountains.

This place has been immortalized in writing, film, television, music and now in pottery. Maybe you have heard of it?

Jem and the holograms journeyed there, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow woke up there in ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’, resorts have been named after it, Stevie Nicks named a solo album after this place and Scooby Doo (Shaggy too) found it!

Shangri-La.Raku Pottery Vase - Shangri-la$96
Shipping Included in US and Canada
Shangri-La was one of the pieces

I included in my exhibit, ‘The Myth of Family’ at the Oxford Riverside Gallery. You can learn more about this exhibit and my process creating the art work for it here. The video which includes footage of throwing on the wheel, firing, the venue and the pieces exhibited.

You can see more images of this vase here.

This mythical utopia is considered to be an earthly paradise

Where the inhabitants age very slowly and are practically immortal. People here are fabled to live hundreds of years beyond an ordinary lifespan.

Shangri-la, much like the Garden of Eden is representative of a paradise hidden from today’s society. Something that many yearn for and seek, but few find.

Perhaps one day our global family can create Shangri-la on this Earth and this myth may become reality and we can all live in a utopia of our creation.

What do you think of this raku vase ‘Shangri-La’? Do you think that such a Utopia
can exist on Earth?

You can see more raku vases and read their stories here.

The Calming Power Of Blue

Why is Blue Such a Calming Colour?

Since ancient times people have observed that colours can impact mood. Maybe you, like me, are particularly sensitive to this. Many people associate blue witht he sky or with water. Why is blue such a calming colour? The answer is in the waves.

Waves Wash over like a tonic for the mind

Did you know that different colours have different wave lengths? These wave lengths are believed to have an impact on us, both mentally and physiologically.

Blue is a short wave length colour, and as such it can reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure and decrease heart rate. As a result of this, we can experience more calmness and peace. I feel it’s not a coincidence that blue covers much of the Earth, and is how we see the sky above during the day

And this is why my First Buddha bust is Blue! Feel those calm waves washing over you as you Scroll through the pictures. Learn more about the history of sculptural busts here, and why I have chosen the Buddha for my first creation of this sort.

$95
Price Includes Shipping in US and Canada
Keep watching for more Buddha Sculptures! Don’t have the room for a Buddha Sculpture at home?

No problem! Check out our selection of Buddha necklaces and keep the calmness of blue close to your heart!

Once In A Blue Moon

I just learned: A blue moon

is considered to be once every 3 years!

Reports of actual blue moon sightings were also made after the eruption of Mount St. Helens, El Chichon, and Mount Pinatubo, as well as after forest fires in Canada in the 1950s.

Whether set with time or fire,
A blue moon is A rare thing to behold! Once In A Blue Moon Christmas Ornament Set
$85
Includes Shipping in US and Canada
so it sure fits this set unique raku ornaments birthed through the flames across 3 years!

You can see all of our ornament sets being offered .
We’ve got some pretty neat groupings and they make a great gift!

What is something that you would say was rare to the point of being
“once in a blue moon”?
