Who will this week’s Vases be?

Flying in From the Ropes, IT’S Kermit the Vase and Haring’s Dance!

May the best vase win!

(Both are also in our book!)

Kermit The Vase $98

“” is the November 2019 Name That Vase Winning name, as submitted by David Redpath ! Congratulations, David!

yellow raku vase called 'Haring's Dance'Haring’s Dance $78

This raku vase, called “Haring’s Dance” celebrates the life and art of Keith Haring.  Haring’s graffiti like pop art emerged from the 1980’s urban culture of New York City.

At the start of his career, he drew chalk figures on blank advertising spaces, before he was commissioned to do larger scale works.  Many of his later works dealt with the AIDS crisis in the 1980’s and homosexuality.

Immediately after I pulled this vase out of the kiln, it reminded me of his work.  This vase is in memory of Keith Haring, and all the amazing art he created and the good work he did in his life, and continues to do through his charitable foundation, where you can learn more about his life and contributions to the art world.

On The Wheel Wednesday – Creativity

“Creativity is a very paradoxical state of consciousness and being.

IT IS ACTION THROUGH INACTION. IT IS ALLOWING SOMETHING TO HAPPEN THROUGH YOU.

IT IS NOT A DOING, IT IS AN ALLOWING.

IT IS BECOMING A PASSAGE SO THE WHOLE CAN FLOW THROUGH YOU.”
– Osho

May your Wednesday flow and be inactively active.

Zeuslander

Last Week on ‘As the pottery wheel Turns

We learned about the many things that Hera had to do to keep up with Zeus’ philandering about the mortals.

Zeus is Our Guest Today

Zeus was not like the other gods. He knew what he wanted and he would get it. And he knew all it would take is a little bit of Magnum, Ferrari, or a dose of Le Tigre.

Unfortunately, meeting his philandering goals also meant killing mortals and upsetting the other gods and – much more than once – his goddess wife Hera.

His Mount Olympus Look
$240

“Zeus is here to set the record straight! What was Zeus to do? It was not his fault everyone wanted him! He was blessed with being “Zeus’ gift to women” everywhere! Surely, nobody could blame him for that!”

“This is complete ZeuSlander!”

(Spoiler: For Zeuslander, there wasn’t)

indeed, It was true that the people simply couldn’t resist him – Mostly due to him being an all powerful god,

Zeus. was. “IT.”

Zeus’ tangled love life (including many rather questionable relationships) resulted in all of these children as detailed on this Greek gods Family Tree.

Greek Gods Family Tree & GenealogyZeus was everywhere!

His harem included

Leto who was the mother of Apollo and ArtemisSemele who was the mother of DionysusMaia who was the mother of HermesDione who was the mother of AphroditeHera, the wife of Zeus was the mother of Ares, Hebe and HephaestusDemeter, the sister and lover of Zeus, was the mother of Persephone

One thing was Perfectly clear

And by gods, he knew how to pose!

Close-up of Ferrari Look

Le Fleur

His Blue Steel Look

It was no freak gasoline fight accident that brought this vase to life, but rather, the magic of raku and when the ash was cleared, Zeuslander was left to ponder life’s important questions alone on Mount Olympus – forever searching for an answer to “why male models?”

We may never know the answer.

What did you think about today’s raku pottery vase Mount Olympus and its ridiculously good looking tale?
