Christmas Contest, You can Win

Christmas is nearly here, and 2020 is drawing to a close.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support for the studio. It’s been an amazing ride to my dream of setting up my pottery studio so far. That would not be possible without those of you who read my blog, like my posts, share what we are doing, and last but not least, those who have been kind enough to purchase pottery.

Guess the number of handmade ornaments on the tree and win!

In order to celebrate and show our appreciation, we have decided to do a giveaway. All you have to do to enter is 1) watch the video above 2) guess how many HANDMADE ornaments are on our tree 3) put your guess in the comments below 4) be subscribed to our newsletter where we will announce the winner!

In January, when we take the tree down, we will then count the handmade ornaments. The person who guesses closest to the number will win an ornament from the tree!

Can’t wait to see if you win, but want an ornament?

This holiday is going to be the Pits.

But that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing!

Pit firing is the first method that man used to fire pottery almost 30,000 years ago. It was considered a great milestone in the development of civilization, in part because people were tired of drinking their wine out of wooden buckets.

With such an interesting story behind these pieces, and their ethereal smokey qualities with small splashes of textures and depth, they would make a welcome gift for someone who likes unique and eclectic one of a kind pieces that are worth beholding.

From now until January 1st, if you are the first to buy a piece from our most recent firing, you will receive for 10% off. You can check out our selection of pit fired pieces here.

Prices have already been reduced on the page and include free shipping to the United States and Canada.

See more pit fired vases here

To sweeten the pit, the first person to buy a pit fired piece will receive a small gift of my choosing! I’ll pick out something cool for you, because this is my first time selling pottery fired with this technique, but it’s definitely not my first time firing pottery this way.

Looking forward to sending a pit-fired vase to it’s new home!

Don’t want to miss out on seeing all the available deals during this sale? Sign up for our Newsletter today. We will be sending out a summary of all of our sale items Sunday night, and you will have a chance to win some free pottery once we hit 500 subscribers, which I am hoping will be before the holidays!

You think your House is in a constant state of disorder? Try being Them!

Today we are going to unleash the story of Chaos.

No, I don’t mean your child’s untidy room, that time before your first cup of coffee or even the US election. We are talking about the mythless god of the Greeks, the progenitor of all.

Last week, we told the story for the raku pottery vase, ‘Tears of Uranus’, which you can read here, and the week before it was the story for ‘Gaia’s Revenge‘. It’s no wonder those two come from Chaos!

Chaos $ 90

Today’s raku pottery vase ‘Chaos‘, tells the tale the story of everything, but also nothing, of the void, and how everything sprung from it. And it may explain those days we all have when the unexpected keeps cropping up.

It’s not easy existing in a cosmic void, particularly if you feel like you are alone in the universe. Fortunately, for most of us, we will never know how that really feels. But for Chaos, it was the only thing they would know for some time.

Chaos existed for much time in a state of disorder, at least according to us humans. One day Chaos started feeling different than usual. They wondered if they had eaten too many sub atomic particles and space junk.

Chaos definitely began to feel more and more strange, until suddenly, a cosmic egg emerged from them. At first Chaos dismissed this occurrence as simply just more Chaos, but it was from this egg that all elements of our world would originate from.

Cosmic egg, it does the universe good. You can read the story of another cosmic egg, from a different culture here!

That our Earth comes from Chaos, might explain a lot of things from our history and that are even going on today. That science so many years later would describe the origin of the universe coming from a single point in a void, makes me wonder if the Greeks knew something we did not.

Let us know what you think of our vase story this week, and what you thought of our raku pottery vase, Chaos, in the comments below!

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Goodbye Lilly

Owls are mysterious

mostly nocturnal creatures, hunting their prey in the cover of darkness.

On a symbolic level, they represent wisdom, good judgment and knowledge. They are also known for their sharp vision, being able to see in the darkness and their keen sense of observation, and to some are also representative of insight and intuition.

Lilly

Yesterday, raku owl ‘Lilly’ – affectionately named after and inspired by Claude Monet’s series of Water Lilies – left the nest. It was a bittersweet send off.

Thank you, Sam, for bringing her home.

Get the Full Story about Lilly and her friends in our book.

This week is an electric battle!

Electra $52
Shipping included in Canada and US

When your mother kills your father, casts you out of the royal house and marries you off to a local peasant, there are sure to be some family issues. Like matricide!

The only upside for her was that the gods ‘punished’ her by ending her marriage to the peasant who refused to touch her because she was noble and he was not. Hopefully she had better luck with her new husband Pylades.

Electra is named after the daughter of Agamemnon.

The Eye of Horus $140
Shipping included in US and Canada

The Eye of Horus’, tells the tale of a feathered god, an 80 year struggle for power, avenging the death of a father, a missing testicle and eye and a race down the Nile. Did your parents ever say ‘It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.’? Horus’ mother might have wanted to mention this to him.

Horus was depicted as a falcon, or a human figure with a falcon’s head. Fittingly he was the Egyptian god of the sky. His right eye represented the sun god Ra, and the left eye was symbolic of the moon. One could literally say he had stars in his eye, or at least a star.

That would be fitting because Horus was kind of a big deal, as he was a contender for the throne of Egypt. But he was not alone in contention for the throne!

His rival and uncle Set, who had murdered Horus also wanted the throne of Egypt, and both of these gods liked to fight dirty. Their battle would last for over eighty years and would include many contests arbitrated by the other gods and battles between the two.

In one such battle, Horus would lose his left eye, ripped out by Set, but Set did not get off lightly. He lost a testicle. Eventually Horus would recover his eye, and the god Thoth would heal it. Thus the Eye of Horus has come to represent, healing, restoration and protection.

And some people worry about laser eye surgery!

At the time it was commonly believed that an evil eye could cast a spell on the heart with just one glance. To counteract this the Eye of Horus often acted as a protective symbol.

You may be wondering how this 80 year old battle would end? In a boat race and some trickery. Tired of the constant fighting and upheaval the gods decided a boat race would determine the victor for the throne and the end to this conflict. Horus somehow convinced Set to use a stone boat. He had painted his own boat to look like stone as well, only his was made of wood.

As you can imagine, Set did not get very far. His boat sunk. Horus had avenged his father’s death, and many of the future pharaohs of Egypt were thought to be his reincarnation.

Who will be your victor? Be sure to get your vote in BELOW!
