That’s been a bit of our year here.
How has your 2020 been over all?

You Don’t Know ‘Til you try it!
It’s been a strange year this 2020. Lots of changes in the world and our daily lives. And lots of new things in this strange new reality of LIVING IN A PANDEMIC.
Many of us have grown as a result of this, mentally and maybe around the middle too!
Trying new things, when it’s your choice, can be fun; and that’s exactly how I feel about playing around with my newest raku glaze. I love the metallic sheen, the iridescent colours, and the fact that underneath it’s shiny casing, these pieces are all still clay.

She Was the World! But her husband was a real pain In the Butt. Here’s What She Did!
Previously, we told the story of the raku pottery vase – The Titans – and a time before the gods, which you can read here. But what of a time before Cronus and Rhea? This week we are firing up the trusty time machine once again to answer the question of what was before them.

Today’s vase story, Gaia’s Revenge, tells the tale of a plucky mother that came from chaos, to form and become the source of life and sustenance for our planet. But as nice as all that is, she was also married to a real pain in the butt, whose control issues caused her more pain than childbirth. She’d of course solve this problem, with a little help and she’d inspire a certain Bobbit in the the future.
Let’s be clear about one thing. Gaia was first. It was from her, that sprang her controlling, and unreasonable partner. She has her own day named after her, and he is indeed the butt of many jokes made even today. Gaia was the mother of Cronus, and regretfully the partner of Uranus.

Gaia came from Chaos, harnessing the best of their creative energy. The day came that a certain sexy sky god sprang from her and she was quite smitten. He was as beautiful as the night sky, because, he was in fact the night sky! How could she resist his expansive twinkles and flashes of light.
In a moment inspired by the beauty of Uranus, she had a brilliant idea! That instead of her just creating on her own, that maybe a collaboration was in order. And so it was that she was able to convince Uranus to have children with her. Their new relationship energy brought much bliss – and children. It was during this time that she gave birth to the Giants, the Titans, Oceanus and indeed the whole world. Gaia thought everything was fine. Until one day …

Uranus had enough. And you might have too if your children ranged from several species, some one off creatures, all together numbering over fifty. Eventually he had enough of all these wild and unruly offspring, and decided to imprison the youngest of his children. And in no way was Uranus interested in any more booty calls with Gaia. No matter how much of that new drink called wine she gave him.

Gaia was not pleased that Uranus had imprisoned their children. Even more unsavoury was the fact that he imprisoned them in the bowels of the Earth. And we all know that Earth is another name for Gaia, and what he thought of as her bowels, she saw as her womb. No wonder this couple was in serious trouble.
Little did Uranus know that his son Cronus was just waiting to depose his father who was flush with power. When Gaia asked who was brave enough amongst her sons to castrate their father, it was only Cronus who had the balls to do so!

As Uranus’ testicles and blood hit the Earth many more children would emerge from his final fertile act. With one slice of a sickle, his job as master of the universe was down the toilet.
So the next time you see an image of Gaia with a sickle, just know the real reason why it’s there. And maybe we should all remember that Gaia is only going to put up with so much of our garbage.

A Christmas Eve Message From Chairman Meow
It is the MOST exciting time of the year! Chairman Meow has once again decided to grace us humans with his Christmas Eve missive. Content warning – it’s a little bit catty!
But before we get to that, I’d like to thank all of you who have read my little blog, taken the time to comment or share my work, and those who have purchased an item or two. In this crazy covid world it’s a real privilege and joy for me to connect with you all from the wilds of rural Nova Scotia! I’d like to wish you all a happy holiday season and I’m sending you all best, amazing, joyous wishes for 2021!
Now on to Chairman Meow
Dear Humans of the World
It’s been a curious past year. My human slaves have been around much more and far more attentive. I’ve had to endure more cuddles, but at least that has been offset a little in extra treats.
They’ve also been gardening more than usual. They even grew a plant for me they call catnip. I was skeptical of it first as with all things not done my way, but I have grown rather fond of it.
Also humans, I’d like to say Santa’s not the only one who knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. Your cat has been watching you.
In anticipation of the day when cats take over the world,
Chairman Meow

This week We are bringing out
A battle for the ages!

Shipping included in Canada and US
In honour of the return of ‘Game of Thrones’ this vase is named ‘Mother of Dragons‘ after Daenrys Targaryen. Motherhood is always challenging, but imagine trying to raise three wilful dragons. The daycare costs alone must cost a fortune and imagine trying to hire a nanny, though Arya may be a suitable candidate, and possible future sister-in-law.
This art piece commemorates the magic of dragons. You can see where the flames have touched this vase during the reduction process. This moment has been captured perfectly and I can see a correlation between where the flames kissed the vase and the patterns on the vase. It was like our dragon friend Viserion was present in spirit before his icy reanimation.

This vase pays homage to one of my favourite television series, that captivated me right until the rushed and disappointing ending, Game of Thrones!
I present to you the raku pottery vase ‘The White Walker’, rising up from the snow covered ground.
The White Walkers were an ancient race of formerly-human ice creatures who came from north of the wall. As the books and tv series progress, they become humanities greatest threat. Think icy zombies.
This vase celebrates the defeat of the Night King at the hands of Arya Stark, which resulted in the complete obliteration of the Night Army. Which, in case you don’t watch the show, is a very good thing!
Too bad the ending of the series was not such a good thing. At least we have the final books to look forward to!
And some people worry about laser eye surgery!
At the time it was commonly believed that an evil eye could cast a spell on the heart with just one glance. To counteract this the Eye of Horus often acted as a protective symbol.
You may be wondering how this 80 year old battle would end? In a boat race and some trickery. Tired of the constant fighting and upheaval the gods decided a boat race would determine the victor for the throne and the end to this conflict. Horus somehow convinced Set to use a stone boat. He had painted his own boat to look like stone as well, only his was made of wood.
As you can imagine, Set did not get very far. His boat sunk. Horus had avenged his father’s death, and many of the future pharaohs of Egypt were thought to be his reincarnation.
Who will be your victor? Be sure to get your vote in BELOW!
