Diego Luna Says in 1776, America Was ‘Ruled by a Mad King,’ Jokes, ‘It’s Great That You Guys Don’t Have to Deal With That S– Anymore | Video
“Andor” star Diego Luna guest-hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live” for the third night on Wednesday,” and in his monologue the acclaimed Mexican actor continued to mock Donald Trump’s policies and behavior. Starting, as it happens, with a joke comparing Trump to King George III.
“July 4th is your most patriotic holiday, where you proudly wave flags and set off fireworks that were all made in China,” Luna said as he got into it. “It’s a celebration of your freedom from tyranny in 1776. Right? Back then, you were ruled by a mad King who could do whatever he wanted. Yeah he could start wars, you know, break the law, put the military in the streets, arrest people for no reason, impose tariffs, take advantage of women without consequence, hire his unqualified relatives…”

“It’s great that you guys don’t have to deal with that s— anymore,” Luna joked, adding, It’s funny, it’s funny, I know, until it’s not.”
“But I do love it here. Whenever I come to the U.S. from Mexico, everyone says ‘Welcome to America!’ Right? And I’m like ‘wait, wait, when I was in Mexico. I was already in America. Because Mexico is part of America, right?” Luna continued. “I mean, America is a huge continent, we agree on that.”
“It’s so big in fact that we had to break it into three parts. North, Central and South America. Your country is called the United States of America. That means it’s part of America. Which does make you Americans, like everyone else in the continent of America. Alright,” Luna continued.
“Let’s clarify,” Luna went on. he then did a fun series of jokes explaining the difference between being in the USA and being in “America.”
“If you eat tacos, you’re in America. If they’re in a shell, that, and that shell is flavored like Doritos, you’re in the States. If you go to Church, You’re in America. If you go to Church at the mall, you’re in the States,” He said. “If you have a truck, this is a good one, if you have a truck, America. If that truck has nuts, the States. If you dream of going to the United States, you’re in America. If you dream of getting the hell out of them, you’re in the States.”

Jimmy Fallon Jokes It’s So Hot in New York, ‘I’m Sweating Worse Than Andrew Cuomo’s Campaign Manager’ | Video
Jimmy Fallon kicked off his monologue on Wednesday’s “The Tonight Show” with some amusing jokes about the historic heatwave gripping large parts of America, including New York City. And he used that as a jumping off point to talk about the city’s Democratic Mayoral Primary.
That primary featured the upset victory of state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist who would be New York’s first mayor of South Asian descent and first Muslim mayor if he wins in November. Mamdani came in considerably ahead of his opponents, including former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who until recently had been expected to win. Read more about it here.
After some introductory pleasantries and discussion of the heat wave, Fallon said, “Seriously, it was so hot today,” prompting “how hot was it” from the audience.
“It was so hot today, OnlyFans is only selling fans,” Fallon joked. “It’s so hot, on my way into work, I saw a squirrel icing his nuts. It was so hot, Ispent the day sweating like a “Love Island” contestant trying to read a book without pictures.
It was so hot, I was sweating worse than Andrew Cuomo campaign manager.”

“Yeah, everyone was talking about this last night. In a major upset, Zohran Mamdani beat Andrew Cuomo to win New York’s democratic mayoral primary. Mamdani is 33 years old. After he won, he was like, ‘my seven roommates are never gonna believe this. Dudes,” Fallon joked.
“33 years old is a good age, because he knows the meaning of both the spending cap and no cap,” Fallon continued. “Yeah, last night, 33 year old Senate Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani pulled off a huge upset and is now the favorite to win the general election. Check out what some former mayors said after his big win.”
Then Fallon took the opportunity to roast one particular former mayor of New York: “First, Mike Bloomberg said, ‘I wish you the best, Mr. Mamdani, becoming mayor was the greatest honor of my life.’ Next, Bill de Blasio said, ‘we’re all rooting for you, there’s nothing like being mayor of New York.’ Then Rudy Giuliani said, ‘Yo, kid, can I borrow 20 bucks?’ Then next, Mike Bloomberg said, ‘running the city is challenging, but also rewarding.’ Then Rudy Giuliani said, ‘forget the 20 bucks. Can I sleep in your car? Not so long, just like six or seven months.’ And de Blasio said, ‘I look forward to watching his campaign.’ And finally, Rudy Giuliani said, ‘quick question, is it better to train a pigeon to retrieve food or just eat the pigeon?'”

Stephen Colbert Mocks Target’s Trump-Evading ‘Toned Down’ Pride Month Merch as ‘Cowardcore’ | Video
As Pride Month comes to an end, Stephen Colbert took some time in his monologue during Wednesday’s “The Late Show” to mock companies who have ceased outreach to the LGBTQ community since Donald Trump was elected.
And he singled out Target, the big box retailer once known for widespread diversity efforts it abandoned after Trump was reelected. (A decision that severely damaged the brand and is also costing the company millions.) The retailer used to prominently sell queer-branded clothing, but this year is selling merch that critics mocked as “Cowardcore,” an insult Colbert picked up during his monologue.
“Pride is both a celebration and a protest, and in the last few years, Pride marches have become really big business, raking in millions of dollars for their host cities. And when corporations heard all those Cha Changs, they jumped in with McDonald’s parade floats and Marvel-branded merch and even advertising tie-ins, like in 2022 when Burger King introduced a pride Whopper with two equal buns, either two top buns or two bottom buns,” Colbert said. “But ever since Donald Trump started viciously attacking the LGBTQ community, those same companies have now gone silent.”

“Corporate sponsors are now pulling back their pride support, because, as one corporate insider said, ‘they never know if, day to day, they’ll be targeted.’ Wow, not knowing if you’ll be targeted must be so hard for those companies, I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for them to come out to their parents as companies,” Colbert said with heavy sarcasm.
“Some corporations are trying to fly under Trump’s radar with toned down pride merch, a fashion trend some are calling “cowardcore.” Some of these pride-shy products can be found at Target,” Colbert said, at which point he showed viewers an “oatmeal colored hoodie with nothing about pride on it, except the drawstrings that read ‘out loud and proud,’ that is so subtle that you’re less likely to think the person is gay than you are to assume that they are oatmeal.”
“Target is also selling this pride tank Top,” Colbert continued, showing the nondescript item that only has a “teeny little rainbow” on it. “Wow, that seems weird, but, you know, it’s actually quite useful if you’re still trying to figure it out, you know? Huh, what do I think here? Gay, not gay, not gay. Gay, not gay. Bi?”
“I say, if you’re going to be this nervous about supporting the LGBTQ community, why not just sell a plain black t shirt no rainbows, no fun slogans, just someone at the factory whispers the word ‘lesbian’ into,” Colbert added.

LA Times Offers New Buyouts That Union Says ‘Egregiously’ Violate Contract | Report
Los Angeles Times Management sent buyout offers this week to a small group of employees that the paper’s union say “egregiously” violate employee contracts, Oliver Darcy reported Wednesday.
According to Darcy, the staffers in question, largely newsroom veterans, had volunteered to accept buyouts during an earlier series of cuts. They were given just 48 hours to decide whether or not to accept, an offer LA Times guild chair Matt Hamilton said in a memo to members was “rushed/botched” and also “egregiously violates our contract.”
Hamilton also said that management failed to notify the guild of of the buyout offers as required by the current contract, and worse that the offers were “roughly half of what select members were entitled to,” Darcy reported.
Representatives for the LA Times Union didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap. Representatives for the Los Angeles Times also didn’t immediately respond.

This all comes amid a brutal year for the storied west coast paper, which has been beset by a series of layoffs and buyouts, as well as an ideological shift mandated by billionaire owner Patrick Soon-Shiong.
In early may, 14 staffers were let go, with Carrillo Peñaloza, an assistant editor on the breaking news team, art director Susana Sanchez and investigative reporter Ben Poston among the casualties.
In march, dozens of employees in operations and communications sections were let go, a culling that came shortly after 40 newsroom employees accepted buyouts. These cuts came after the paper lost at least 25,000 subscribers in the weeks after Soon-Shiong overrode the paper’s editorial board to cancel a planned endorsement of Kamala Harris.
AdWeek reported in April that LA Times lost “around $50 million” in 2024.

‘Love Island USA’ Star Jeremiah Brown Says Bombshell Kiss Put a Target on His Back: ‘I Peeped Them Over There Hating’
Jeremiah Brown is confident his kiss with Andreina Santos before he was eliminated from “Love Island USA” painted an extra target on his back.
In a shocking turn, Brown was eliminated from the reality dating show on Sunday night’s episode based on a decision from the top-voted boys according to America: Ace Greene, Nic Vansteenberghe and Taylor Williams. After getting out of a toxic coupling with Huda Mustafa days before, Brown had been connecting with Santos — a new bombshell that entered the Villa and turned a few heads — and says their kiss right before elimination probably sealed his fate.
“We kissed twice,” Brown told TheWrap. “We kissed and then someone yelled out ‘Oh s–t,’ so we stopped and then we kissed again. Another person yelled out ‘Oh s–t,’ so we stopped, and it was literally like right before, like actually right before — we thought it was a recoupling.”
He continued: “We’re like, ‘Oh, we’re good. Let’s recouple and continue to explore,’ but no. We saw them over there and I peeped them over there just hating. I just knew it. I seen it in their eyes.”

When it came time to line up for the elimination decision, Brown stood up with OG Islander Austin Shepard and early Bombshell Jose “Pepe” Garcia-Gonzalez. He said he started out confident he’d be safe to continue exploring with Andreina after they started connecting earlier that day.
“They didn’t like Pepe at first and he’s a Bombshell,” Brown said. “They’re not going to pick an OG over a Bombshell. And then Austin, he’s amazing but he hasn’t found anything in three weeks.”
While America voted for their favorite Islanders, it was up to those favorites — Greene, Vansteenberghe and Williams — to make the decision on who was leaving the Villa. Once they stood up with their choice and started talking Brown knew he was done.
“When we were waiting, I was just like ‘Bro, they might have like seen me hooping with the Bombshell,’ which I knew they kind of wanted to explore and we were already kissing,” he said. “I was like ‘Damn, maybe they feel some type of way about that.'”
Brown added: “The second they started talking about, ‘Oh new habits or recreating new patterns or blah blah blah’ I was looking around and I’m like, ‘Am I cooked?'”

The vote rankled many fans, most calling on Greene gaming the Island, calling the shots and targeting people who might be a threat on his path to the $100k prize – which has typically not been the focus for Islanders on the series – while others say the decision was motivated by jealousy. Brown thinks it was the former.
“I don’t know about jealousy but I’m leaning toward intimidation for sure,” he said. “Just getting a good player out of the game.”
Although Brown is still in Fiji and doesn’t have access to his phone, he has stayed updated on what has been happening with Casa Amor – including Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen being “eliminated”/driven off to still be involved in the season in some way yet revealed.
It’s a pairing that many fans have clamored for online, but Brown said he “didn’t see them have any romantic type of spark or connection.”
“Love Island USA” airs every night except Wednesdays on Peacock.

Jake Tapper Defends CNN’s Iran Reports, Says Obligation Is ‘Not to Praise Trump or Protect His Feelings’ | Video
In the wake of President Donald Trump’s call to bomb Iranian nuclear sites, CNN reported that the commander in chief oversold the destruction caused by the attacks per an early Defense Intelligence Agency assessment. Trump, in turn, scolded CNN, calling for the firing of reporter Natasha Bertrand and hurling insults and accusations of “fake news” at the network.
CNN’s Jake Tapper went on air Wednesay with a message for the president and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: Don’t shoot the messenger.

“They’re calling journalists ‘fake news’ for true stories! They’re calling for an excellent CNN reporter, Natasha Bertrand, to be fired, which is preposterous,” Tapper said. “The Trump administration is also accusing any news media who reports on this intel assessment as not being patriotic,” he later added.
You can watch the video below.
Trump slams press for reporting on government's own intel report

Throughout Tapper’s segment for “The Lead,” the journalist condemned the Trump administration’s trend of “shooting the messengers in an increasingly ugly way.” The role of the media, Tapper said, is to question authority and press for facts at all times, regardless of any notion of so-called “patriotism.”
Following Trump’s order to bomb key nuclear sites in Iran, the president went on to call the mission a complete success, saying the sites were “obliterated.” The DIA’s assessment, however, said that obliteration was far from the truth; CNN’s reporting said that seven people familiar with the assessment verified that it said the bombing “did not destroy the core components of the country’s nuclear program” and merely set it back a few months.
Bertrand’s reporting hedges on making any definitive statements on the attack itself. She attributes information to the DIA assessment and those familiar with it while emphasizing that the report was in its early stages.
“The analysis of the damage to the sites and the impact of the strikes on Iran’s nuclear ambitions is ongoing, and could change as more intelligence becomes available,” Bertrand’s article reads. “But the early findings are at odds with President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the strikes ‘completely and totally obliterated’ Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities.”
Tapper adds that the bombs used in the Iran strike were untested, leading to a natural question of how much damage they can do: “No one is questioning whether this was a heroic and valiant effort on behalf of the United States,” he said. “The key questions for the American people and the world are simply about the degree of success of the operation.”
“Our obligation as journalists is not to praise President Trump or protect his feelings, or to disparage, or to praise him, for that matter,” he said. “Our obligation is to report facts.”
Tapper underscored that reporting on government documents like this is a necessary responsibility of the press. The CNN host cited the Pentagon Papers, first published by The New York Times in 1971, as an example proving the importance of unflinching journalism. Reporting on these papers, Tapper said, showed that “officials had been lying to the American people for years.”
The reporter ended by decrying Trump’s notion that blind support is the same thing as patriotism.
“History has taught us that the most pro-service member action we can take is to ask questions of our leaders, especially in times of war,” Tapper concludes. “That, for journalists, is the height of patriotism.”

Charlie Kirk Says Trump’s Iran Mission Ignited a MAGA Civil War, Cites Foreign Policy as a GOP ‘Fault Line’ | Video
Charlie Kirk thinks President Donald Trump’s recent bombings in Iran exposed the “greatest fault line” in the GOP.
While on “The Megyn Kelly Show” Wednesday, Kirk broke down turmoil he’s witnessed within the Republican Party following the weekend’s attack on Iran. While some, like Tucker Carlson, spoke out against any attack or escalation, Kirk remained a stalwart supporter of the president – while acknowledging foreign policy is the biggest divider on the right.
“There is no greater divide on the American right than foreign policy,” Kirk said. “It’s like we’re largely in agreement on immigration. We’re actually really in agreement on the trans stuff, but the greatest fault line of the conservative movement is foreign policy. And I was really worried that this was going to bring it to a very unpleasant moment.”
He continued: “Turns out, I was partially right, because no one has liked to see what we’ve seen on X the last week and a half, it’s just been seeing a lot of our friends fight. It’s been really kind of nasty. I’m taking a different tact, which is, let’s just keep it about ideas.”

Perhaps the biggest dust up about the escalation came from a conversation between Carlson and Ted Cruz last week. Carlson confronted the Texas senator about wanted to attack Iran without knowing much about the country.
“How many people live in Iran, by the way?” Carlson asked. “I don’t know the population at all … I don’t know the population,” Cruz replied.
“You don’t know the population in the country you seek to topple?” Carlson asked before clarifying that Iran currently has an estimated population of 92 million. “How could you not know that?”
“I don’t sit around memorizing population tables,” Cruz responded.
“Well, it’s kind of relevant, because you’re calling for the overthrow of the government,” Carlson retorted.
Kirk went on to add that some of the dissent came from younger voters. He explained to Kelly that they are tired of wars and worried Trump was putting the U.S. into the thick of things too much.
“Allow me to try to introduce one element, which is the younger voters that I represent on college campuses,” he said. “They are war weary. They don’t want foreign conflict. They don’t want foreign intervention, and so just please keep that in mind when you’re going about this.”
Watch the full segment, in which Kelly referred to the tensions as a mounting “civil war” within the Republican Party, below:

Diego Luna Enlists ‘Immigration Lawyer’ to Vet Anti-Trump Monologue Jokes ‘In Case I Have to Flee the Country’ | Video
“Andor” star Diego Luna is still guest-hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” this week, and as an amusing follow-up to the heartfelt statement he made the night before, the actor performed an fun gag in which he attempted to take “a few extra precautions” in his Tuesday monologue to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t come after him.
The context was the celebrated monologue he gave on Monday night’s episode, during which Luna criticized Trump’s “authoritarian” policies, celebrated the city of Los Angeles and urged support for immigrants.
So it is that on Tuesday, Luna spent much of his monologue sharing various reactions to that commentary — including Fox News’ extremely negative coverage.

“If Fox News is talking about it, that means I’m probably on Donald Trump’s radar now, so I’ve taken a few extra precautions,” Luna said. “I have my suitcase packed, ready to go, in case I need to flee the country. You know, Tijuana is hours away.”
“I’ve also hired an immigration lawyer. This is Laurie,” Luna said, pointing to an actress offstage portraying said immigration lawyer. “She’s going to listen to my monologue and tell me if I go too hard on Trump or the MAGA universe in general. Let’s test it out Laurie, is that okay? Do we have any Trump jokes laying around?” Then he tried a couple out.
“Knock knock. ICE! Everybody hide!” Luna said, before turning to ‘Laurie,’ who shrugged noncommittally at it.
“Okay, let’s try another one. Why does Donald Trump want to screw immigrants?” Luna continued. “Because the one he married won’t screw him.”
At that, ‘Laurie’ shook her head no, to which Luna said, “Okay, okay, okay, okay Laurie, thank you very much, now we know the boundaries. I didn’t come up with those by the way. If you wanna deport someone, I know the writers.”
“You know, one of the worst parts of hosting a late-night show is that I have to keep up on what President Trump is doing every second. I know now why Jimmy went fishing in the middle of nowhere. Three months sounds like a short time, right?” he joked.

Stephen Colbert Enjoys a Storm of Swearing Inspired by Trump’s Cease-Fire F-Bomb: ‘What the F– Am I?’ | Video
Stephen Colbert indulged in a wacky, expletive-laden gag during his monologue on Tuesday night during which the “Late Show” host said the F-word multiple times. Of course, he wasn’t going rogue, he was just inspired by Donald Trump’s own surprising F-bomb earlier in the day.
The context, for those catching up, was the announced cease-fire between Israel and Iran that, as Colbert explained, hasn’t quite been as ceased as advertised.
“As of this taping, there is a tenuous cease-fire between Iran and Israel. What happened was around 6pm last night, Donald Trump dropped this post,” Colbert said, then directly quoted Trump: “Congratulations to everyone. It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total Cease fire. Officially, Iran will start the cease fire, and upon the 12th hour, Israel will start the cease fire.”
“So let me get this straight. Let me do the math. Iran stops right away, but Israel gets another 12 hours of dropping the boom booms buzz like a parent in the front seat saying, you two, knock it off. Back there. Luke, you quit it right now. Derek, you can hit your brother for another 12 hours. Go for the eyes. That’s the soft part. Go for the eyes,” Colbert continued.
But, Colbert continued, “after after the cease-fire announcements, Republicans were tooting Trump’s horn,” and noted several Republicans calling for Trump to be given a Nobel Peace Prize.
“I’m not sure they give an award for bombing people into submission. I think you’re thinking of the JD Power and Associates Award for Best heavy duty kablooey,” Colbert joked. “So war over, maybe? Because right up until Trump’s deadline, Israel and Iran kept bombing each other. Then after the deadline, Israel accused Iran of breaking the ceasefire and threatened to retaliate. Trump was asked about the fragile state of the ceasefire this morning on the White House lawn.”
This brought things to Trump’s swear. Colbert ran a clip of the president saying, “basically [you] have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f— they’re doing.”
“Wow, he is so mad… and/or so projecting,” Colbert joked, at this point switching to his Trump impression.
“They don’t know. They don’t know what the f— they’re doing. They’re, they’re
starting to wonder, I tell you, folks, they’re starting to wonder if they even wanted all of this. Sure they like the attention, but the job itself f—ing sucks. All they want to do, all they want to do is eat f—ing chicken and watch f—ing TV and play a little f—ing golf. What the f— am I?” Colbert joked.

‘Ironheart’ Just Confirmed a Major Fan Theory With a Surprise Connection to the First ‘Iron Man’ Movie
Major spoilers ahead for episode 3 of Marvel’s “Ironheart”
Turns out, Joe McGillicuddy isn’t actually a real person. So, who is Alden Ehrenreich actually playing in “Ironheart?” Well, fans clocked it from the beginning; he’s Ezekiel Stane, son of Obadiah Stane. And “Ironheart” just connected itself to the very beginning of the entire MCU.
In Episode 3 of Marvel’s latest series, now streaming on Disney+, Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) comes to her friend Joe (Ehrenreich) for some help. As they chat in his kitchen, a bag of ashes falls out, prompting Riri to freak out a bit. She quickly pieces together that the ashes belong to Joe’s father, but the bag is labeled “Obadiah S.”
Riri forces Joe to come clean, and he reveals that yes, the S stands for Stane, and his own real name is Ezekiel Stane. Of course, the reveal won’t come as much of a surprise to eagle-eyed fans.

Earlier this month, when a new “Ironheart” featurette was released, fans picked up on an image of a technologically enhanced arm with electricity traveling through the fingers. It looked pretty similar to how Ezekiel looks in the comic books, thanks to his biomechanical enhancements.
For those less familiar with the comic books but more with the MCU, Zeke’s family ties actually go back all the way to the start of the MCU. We first met Obadiah Stane in “Iron Man,” played by Jeff Bridges. You might remember his infamous line: “Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!“

He was Tony Stark’s partner and mentor, which Riri notes while confirming Ezekiel’s identity. He was killed in a battle with Tony, after Obadiah tried to get rid of the billionaire in an effort to keep manufacturing and selling weapons. Tony came back from his time in captivity a changed man, and when he wanted to change the business in turn, Obadiah stole his technology and tried to kill Tony with a supersuit of his own. But that’s not the official story.
As Joe/Zeke explains, Obadiah’s legacy has remained mostly intact because the official line is that he was killed tragically in a plane crash. No one in the MCU at large, save for Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan, knows about his murderous turn before he died.
The first three episodes of “Ironheart” are now streaming on Disney+.
