2020 Wrap-Up

Well everyone, we made it! Another year is gone and behind us! **Sigh of relief ** And boy, was it quite an interesting year. There has been so much going on this past year, from the Coronavirus to the presidential elections. But don’t worry. I will not talk about any of that. We shall focus on the positive and the exciting adventures we went on this year, whether it be in actual life or in a book. This post is all about the writing/reading progress that has been made this year. So, let’s start with the writing.

I look back on this year, and I realize how much we accomplished! I got my very first book, Finding Doom out as a paperback! That was huge for me! I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of your support. I also had my very first school visit. (Before everything shut down.) And I made major progress with The Bayshire. Most of my editing is done, and there are a few more steps to accomplish before publishing. I know everyone is excited to read it. I’m excited to get it out. And my promise to you is that it will be here soon. I will inform you when I have a set date for you to look forward to.

I have also finished my first draft for a different writing project and plan to edit that this next year, along with the third book in the T.S.O. series. So I made a lot of progress in the writing department this year.

For reading, I read about forty-three books this year. Crazy! I have noticed that when I have a lot of schoolwork going on, and when I’m stuck inside a lot more, I spend more time reading. Which is awesome. You can check out more about what I read this year on Goodreads by clicking the button below. I read some new books and reread some favorites. Most of them were paperbacks, but I read a few books in ebook format and even listened to a couple as audiobooks. I can’t say I have a favorite book that I read this year since so many of them were amazing. I encourage you to look at the list of books I read on Goodreads and let me in know in the comments if there are any you want me to write a review for. And share what you read this year, too!

Goodreads

Now, for the most popular/most viewed post of 2020. . . Edenbrooke Book Review. Check it out right here!

Well, we have definitely been through a lot this year. We have all had our own challenges with everything that’s happening in the world. But that’s why it’s more important than ever to stay connected and especially to keep reading. Through books and stories, we can experience life in millions of different ways. And then we can share these stories with each other, bringing that mystery and happiness into the lives of those around us.

In the comments, share what you accomplished this year, or what books you enjoyed in 2020. I would also love to hear any book recommendations from you or any books you want reviewed in future blog posts.

A lot has happened this year, but there is so much more ahead of us to look forward too. And so many happy moments from this year to hold on to and remember.

So, my fellow adventures, I leave you with this. For all you writers, I wish you all the best of luck in your writing endeavors. And I hope every book you pick up whisks you away to a magical world where you can escape and enjoy life in a whole new way.

Happy New Year, everyone.

My Playlist for The Bayshire: Listen Now!

Hey everyone!
Happy Holidays!! As a special little treat, I am sharing a special playlist with you I made on Spotify. I created this playlist when I first started writing The Bayshire, and it is the music I listen to when working on it. I based the playlist on the main character’s music interests.
For those of you who are interested, the playlist is a mixture of some rock music, including songs from The Black Keys and The Raconteurs. Multiple times in the story Agent Alexis Mills mentions her music, and now you can listen along with her while getting excited about the book, and soon listen while you read about her exciting adventure.
Click the button below to listen in Spotify, or check it out right now! I hope you enjoy it.

My Current WIP, Outside the T.S.O. Universe.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today I have something a little different for you. Don’t worry, it’s short. Last year, during NaNoWriMo, I talked about a Work-in-Progress of mine that I was working on writing. Well, I’m happy to say that I’ve completed my first draft and a mini rewrite on that very project. So, it’s time to say a little something about it.

This WIP of mine is a mermaid fantasy. (For those of us who like that kind of thing.) In short, it’s about a girl named Finley who turns into a mermaid and realizes she doesn’t have to live in fear. Don’t worry, there is a lot more to it than that. Something with a surfer-boy crush, a paranoid father, and some evil villains. In total, I plan for there to be two books.

I had started writing this book when I was editing Finding Doom. I actually wrote the first draft for the second book last NaNoWriMo in the hope it would be part of the first same book. But the plot won’t work that way. After making some much-needed changes to the first book, I plan to begin editing after the holidays.

Some might wonder why I chose to write in the mermaid fantasy genre. Let’s just say that if I had to pick mermaids or unicorns, it would be mermaids.

That’s all I can say for now. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. And happy writing!

Hawk Book Review

“The apocalypse is over. Welcome to the new world.”

Hawk, James Patterson

Hawk is written by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet.

Category: YA (Young Adult), Sci-Fi, Adventure

The story takes place ten years after the the Maximum Ride series. (I did a review on that a while ago. You can check it out here.)

I can’t seem to find books that I DON’T like, but this one was exceptionally awesome. Of course, I knew I would like it considering that Maximum Ride is one of my favorite series.

The story follows the perspective of a girl named Hawk in the post-apocalyptic world of Maximum Ride. I can’t exactly explain this book without giving anything away, so here is the synopsis from the cover:

Ten years ago a girl with wings fought to save the world. But then she disappeared. Now she’s just a fading legend, remembered only in stories.

Hawk doesn’t know her real name. She doesn’t know who her family is, or where they went. The only thing she remembers is that she was told to wait on a specific street corner, at a special time, until her parents came back for her. She stays under the radar to survive…until a destiny that’s perilously close to Maximum Ride’s forces her to take flight. Someone is coming for her.

When it comes to the writing and the characters I couldn’t be more in love. It was so fun to see the characters I fell in love with ten years in the future, even if it wasn’t in the best circumstances. Anyone who’s read maximum Ride knows how sarcastic and fun the characters are, how enticing the plots are. And Hawk is just like them.

When I was reading the book in the car I couldn’t help but yell out loud at the characters. It got me quite a few odd looks from the family. I said, “James Patterson is making me feel things I don’t want to.”

“What? Emotions?” my sister asked.

I couldn’t help it. I was drawn into the addicting world I loved so much. “Cold, dark emotions,” I said. “I love it so much.”

James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet have a mystifying way of drawing in their readers, grasping onto them, and never letting them go. Not even after you close the book. I can never get enough of these books, and Maximum Ride will always be a cherished story I hold dear to my heart.

For any Maximum Ride fan, this is the perfect story. To jump back into a world you love in a new and exciting way is always a treat. And anyone looking for a gripping, snarky, expertly written mystery with the ever imminent chance of death on every page, this is the book for you. (Although I suggest you start with the Maximum Ride series.) But don’t just take my word for it. Read Hawk and find out for yourself.

Happy reading!

Finding Doom: Happy Book Birthday!!

“If my parents didn’t know the true story, and I didn’t know what happened, who was going to tell me?”

Finding Doom, R.E. Klinzing

We made it! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year!

Hey everyone! Today is Finding Doom’s book birthday! It has officially been published for a whole year!

I remember when I first decided to start writing. I sat down at my desk and started typing, making up the words as I went. And what do you know, some odd years later here we are!

I know it’s the middle of the school week, so we will have an online, Instagram celebration this Saturday, October 10th. (More on that in a second.)

When I first started writing Finding Doom, I had no intention in publishing it, or making it into a series. But as I kept writing I realized that it was meant to be shared, and that I wanted to be an author. I fell in love with writing and storytelling and haven’t been able to stop.

Last year, in 2019, I published Finding Doom on October 6th. Now I’m in the editing process for the second book in the T.S.O. series, The Bayshire. And the third book is currently being written. Who knew, when I started writing my first book in 2016 that I would be talking about it with you guys now.

So, this weekend I will be going live on Saturday, October 10th at 1:30 through Instagram. The event will last about half an hour. Leave your comments and questions below and I will discuss them on Saturday! If we get through everything, we might even have a mini read aloud! So, leave your questions in the comments, and I will see you then!

The Kane Chronicles Book Review

“It takes strength and courage to admit the truth.”

The Red Pyramid, Rick Riordan

The Kane Chronicles is a three-book trilogy written by Rick Riordan.

And it’s making its way to my favorites list!

The Kane Chronicles follows two young Egyptian magicians, brother and sister Carter and Sadie Kane as they learn about who they are and set off to save the world from the forces of chaos. They soon learn not only that the Egyptian gods are real, but that their family is personally connected to the ancient pharaohs of Egypt and their world may crumble without the help of Carter and Sadie in the fight against evil and chaos to restore balance to the world.

I stumbled upon these books in my sister’s bookshelf when I had nothing else to read at the time. And I’m glad I did! Rick Riordan has an addicting way of making you laugh with every page you turn in these books. The plot is priceless, with its love interests, family problems, and the ever-imminent chance of death at every corner.

When reading these books, I found a part of the writing to be very unique compared to anything I’ve ever read. The books are written to be “transcripts” of an audio recording made by the main characters. Because of this, there are points in the book where the characters pause the story and argue about how they are telling it, just like a brother and sister would. It makes the books that much funnier and relatable.

The characters were all very diverse, in both race and personality. The characters’ relations to each other was very realistic, and the presentation of different races such as African American and Arabic made the books stand out to me even more. And with Sadie’s sarcastic outlook on life and Carter’s need to stand up and lead, you can’t put the books down.

The books left me wanting more, even though the ending was very satisfying. And I even learned a little bit more about some Egyptian mythology along the way! I thoroughly enjoyed these books and recommend them to anyone looking for a funny and Egyptian-based story to read. (Or someone who really enjoyed the Percy Jackson books.)
