Light Arrow Meditation for Chakra Clearing and Balancing

Do you feel stuck in different aspects of your life?

The blockages we see in our lives are a reflection of the blockages we have in our energy field.

The core of the system of energy each of us has in our body is the chakras. The seven chakras along the spine circle with energy that affects every part of our lives. If they become dark, weak, or blocked, so, too, do the parts they influence.

Energy responds to energy: light, sound, and other types of vibration. Try this vibration and visualization exercise to open the blockages in your chakras and fill them with bright energy.

Sit or stand with your back straight. If you choose to stand, put your feet shoulder-width apart and bend your knees slightly.
Close your eyes and shake your body. Bounce up and down if you’re standing; shake from side to side if you’re sitting.
Bring your mind to your first chakra just inside where your legs meet your trunk (see diagram). Feel the sensations there. Does it feel warm or cold, dark or light? Even if you are not able to sense energy or feel your chakras, keep your mind focused on that area. The concentration of your mind will concentrate energy there.
Then visualize a brilliantly white arrow of pure light coming and piercing the first chakra. Blocked energy opens up. Overcharged energy is dissipated. Weak energy is filled and revived. Your first chakra, blazing a deep red, becomes perfectly balanced, clear, and bright.
Repeat this sequence for your second through seventh chakras.
Then imagine a bright line of energy going through all of your chakras.
Afterward, rest comfortably, feeling your breath as you breathe naturally.
Give thanks for the renewed brightness inside you.

How are you feeling now? When you experience this kind of energy meditation, uncomfortable sensations, thoughts, or emotions may pass through you. Accept them without worrying about them. As energy circulates within you more and more, the happiness and health that always lie beneath will surface.

You always have the power to create your life if you keep making yourself brighter from the inside out.

The Greatest Joy: Life Itself

older man surfing the ocean waves

[Photo by Rawpixel @ Envato Elements]

The joy of life is the joy that comes from the very fact that we exist.

Many of us go through our days forgetting that joy. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in other joys, worldly joys, when we forget the joy that comes from life itself. We pursue joys that come from goods and games, and joys that come through others and through worldly love.

Love is a good thing, but it’s also a seed of tears. Money is also good, but our unhappiness grows because of it. And we become more unhappy from prestige and power.

The greatest joy we experience as human beings is the joy we can taste by feeling life itself, in this moment, with our consciousness awake and alive. This joy lets us step beyond fear of death, uncertainty, strife, and pain. Feeling life in our body, in our breath, we can have a great, shining consciousness that is able to transcend those many attachments.

So try it, here and now, and feel the joy of life itself.

[Video] Empty Your Mind with Gibberish Meditation

Have you heard of gibberish? Gibberish is unintelligible or meaningless speech or writing. By bypassing your brain’s need to evaluate and understand, focusing on the sound of your voice, and releasing emotional energy through the vibrations of voice, speaking in gibberish helps you empty your mind and turn on the parts of your brain that you normally don’t use. Gibberish can actually be a deep meditation. Through Gibberish Meditation, you can completely empty yourself and connect to your true self.

In this video, I give you an example of Gibberish Meditation that you can use anytime to calm and refocus your mind. When you do it, you can speak or sing your heart out. Let whatever sounds come to you exit your mouth without inhibition.

A Song to My Soul

silhouette of woman with hands enclosing the setting sun

[Photo by @moorebianca via Twenty20]

As I read the thoughts of Brain Education practitioners recently, I felt their souls and a song to the soul came to me. I would like to share this song with you. It’s a song you can sing to your own soul, to open your heart and feel your soul. Rather than trying to sing it beautifully, put all of your longing, angst, and passion into it.

Through opening your soul this way, you become true and pure. When you restore truth and purity, a white-hot beam of light goes through you from head to toe, filling your body with an explosion of light and brightening your body and mind.

Song to My Soul

Did I love myself?

Did I really love myself?

When did I lose myself—

this being that is me, this value that is me,

the meaning of my body and soul?

With endlessly arising conflict, dilemmas, being lost and wandering, health, happiness, misery,

endless competition, money, fame, power, possession, control,

death and birth, what is the meaning of life?

Through the tears streaming from my eyes

Through the tears streaming from my eyes

I see myself. I feel myself.

Now, I realize that I’ve met myself and I can love myself,

that my love grows and changes and becomes Hongik;

I finally realize that it becomes Hongik.

To the God of Oneness who created

me, my family, my parents, my ancestors, and all life,

I offer gratitude, love, and blessings.

Can you feel the trembling of your soul? The trembling of your soul will restore your compassion and conscience and awaken your sense of spirituality and divinity. Your soul holds the power of health, love, joy, and creation.

Your soul is always with you, but do you meet its light every day? Even if you lived only one day, imagine how that day could be if you lived it seeing the light of your soul. It would be the most glorious and blessed life.

Note: Hongik means to benefit widely.

How to Bring the World Together

woman holding a globe over her head in the desert

[Photo by @kellykardos via Twenty20]

Due to COVID-19, our brains and humankind have experienced an unprecedented shock. However, because of the “pause” of the human world, we’ve come to look back on many things. The existing systems of politics, economics, culture, and religion have collapsed and new paradigms have started to form. Standing before COVID-19, we’re able to realize that any class, hierarchy, or religion is equal. In the face of this levelling, it’s easier to see that there are three important values that unite us all and that should guide us moving forward. Those are the value of nature, human value, and the value of the brain.

It might seem like these three values are separate from each other, but ultimately, they are one. If you know the value of nature, you come to know human value and the value of the brain, and if you know the value of the brain, you come to know human value and the value of nature.

Humans are nature-made, not man-made. When we understand this, we’re connected with the life force within us, and we can discover our true nature. We get connected with nature, both externally and internally. These two kinds of nature are ultimately interconnected and continuous. You may have felt this when you were in a natural setting. Having a sense of being a part of that environment and knowing that our bodies came from the earth and will return to it when we die, can help us realize the value of all life, including our own. Being able to be conscious of that existential value is the value and unique capacity of the human brain. I believe this simple realization of the connection between nature, human lives, and the human brain is enlightenment.

It’s really important to experience this realization as a feeling, not a thought. All you have to do is feel the life within you. One of the easiest ways to do that is to feel the beat of your heart. Try to feel it once now. Close your eyes and place your hands over your heart. Do you feel your heart beating? Your heart has been beating without resting, even for a moment. Who makes your heart beat? Is your heart beating as a result of your thoughts, knowledge, or beliefs? No. The infinite life force of nature is making your heart beat and causing you to breathe. This is proof that nature is inside you, proof that nature within and without are connected.

Everyone Can Be Enlightened

Anyone can be enlightened if they perceive their own value with nature as the yardstick and if they are cognizant of the value of the brain. For each individual, if you break free from your ego, selfishness, religious views, and national perspective and go back to being a free soul and see as a free soul, you will gain a new vantage point from which to see human value and the value of the brain.

In reality, enlightenment is something simple and ordinary, something already sitting there in the brain of every man, woman, and child, waiting to be awakened. Our longing for it can be seen in every loving smile and felt in every selfless gesture, and it is written into our countless stories of lost paradises and futuristic utopias. Really, enlightenment is about information. Often people act as though obtaining the correct spiritual information were the key, but really it is as much about the ability to let go of information as the ability to take it in. Enlightened information is information that expands our awareness and breaks down the illusions of separation.

Feed Your Brain Enlightened Information

Certain fundamental beliefs about who you are and your role on this planet are the most influential programming that your brain contains. This programming can affect every other decision or action generated by the brain.

Thus far, we have primarily used our brains to divide rather than to unite. Through our rational, analytic minds, we look for differences and we also habitually use our brains to create ideologies and labels that divide humans from one another. We say, “We are Americans, and they are Koreans.” And we also create beliefs that separate and divide. “She is a Muslim, he is a Christian, and I am a Buddhist.” “He is a Republican. I am a Democrat.” We separate and divide, categorize and analyze until it seems like it is just us against the world.

Now the time has come to use our brains to unite with, rather than divide ourselves from, the rest of humanity. This new way to use the brain can begin with a new way to identify the self, an expanded way to understand who we are and where we come from. Looking at humans in terms of arbitrary borders is now passé. To accept or reject others based on ideology or religion is foolish and dangerous.

But how, then, can we identify ourselves given the values we have in common? We have been able to leave Earth’s protective atmosphere for short jaunts, but ultimately, for the foreseeable future, we are all dependent on the Earth for our sustenance, more than the weakest infant depends on his or her mother. Boundaries, rulers, and names of nations can change, but the Earth is always our home and our source of life. Earth is the only indelible identity we can have. If we set the Earth as the locus of our perspective, our values will become standardized, and the current divisions will transform into coalescence. That is why I’m suggesting that we expand our identities beyond the limits of nationality and culture to encompass the only identity that is definite and real by identifying ourselves, first and foremost, as Earth Citizens.

Human beings need to acknowledge that their greatest allegiance should belong not to a human-designed government but to the power on which their very existence depends. By identifying themselves as Earth Citizens before any other designation of identity, I believe we can make great changes in the world and its destiny.

Living as Earth Citizens

Too often, we limit our scope of compassion to ourselves and to our immediate family, only occasionally extending it to strangers in our community or nation. It may seem natural to live this way, but it’s not natural at all. In fact, it is antinatural, disconnecting us from the rest of nature and from one another. By identifying ourselves as Earth Citizens first and foremost, we will return to our natural selves and to our natural brain state.

There are no specific prerequisites for becoming an Earth Citizen. If you can acknowledge your dependence on the Earth and your connection to the rest of humanity, then you are an Earth Citizen.

That being said, it stands to reason that an Earth Citizen should care for and have stewardship over the Earth and all of its inhabitants. This means acting not only for the benefit of your immediate community or nation, but for all of humankind. It is Earth Citizens who sincerely worry when we develop planetary problems.

Because it is easy to fall back into the comfortable but limited scope of our immediate environment, I encourage you to do something that will take your activities one or two steps outside your usual sphere of influence. In other words, I recommend taking some action of deliberate global benefit.

“No one will change unless I do.” We need people who think this way and have this sense of ownership. We must have more Earth Citizens who, gladly and together, think hard and take action on the problems facing our society and the planet. Real answers will emerge when many Earth Citizens come together. Then real change can happen.

All cultural and technological developments were made to alleviate some unresolved need. As the old saying goes, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” When the brain needs to find a way, it finds a way. Today’s world provides a wonderful opportunity for us to find our true greatness. I often encourage people to tell themselves, “I am here because the twenty-first century wanted me desperately.” People line up to see superheroes save the day in the movies, but the time has come to start thinking of ourselves as superheroes. We are the ones who have to save the Earth, and our superpowers lie in our brains, waiting to be activated.

Sound Meditations for Restoring Your Inner Balance

Ilchi Lee playing flute in Sedona, Arizona

As we live our daily lives, sometimes we feel like we are on track and sometimes we feel like we are lost. It’s okay to be off track; it simply means we’re out of balance. If we rebalance ourselves, we’ll get back on track. But to be balanced, we need to know the feeling of it.

When we learn to ride a bicycle, we develop the sense of balancing the bike in order to keep it upright. When we learn how to float in water, we develop the sense of balancing on the water in order not to sink. With that sense, we can ride the waves or ride over bumps in the road without losing our equilibrium.

In our lives, having a sense of balance means having a sense of our center, or what is also called the zero point. This point is the pure energy of our soul and divinity and the brightness of our original, divine consciousness. Many of us were never taught how to be aware of our energy or consciousness. On top of that, most of us spend our lives piling thoughts and emotions onto our awareness and energy as we focus on what is happening outside of ourselves. Our brightness is buried under this clutter and we lose our sense of our center.

That sense comes from our brain, the location of our consciousness and divinity, and its connection to our body. Although our brain has this ability, we still need to develop it through practice. No matter how much we know about bicycles or swimming techniques, we can’t actually use that knowledge without practice. So to stay on track, we need a daily practice of clearing the clutter and refocusing on our center with meditation.

There are many forms of meditation. In this blog post, I’d like to play instruments for you. The vibrations of sound can quiet your thoughts and clear your energy. Listen to the sounds as you gradually let your body and breath relax. In a state of stillness and relaxation, bring your awareness inside yourself. Let it rest deeper and deeper inside until you gain a sense of your own brightness, joy, and peace.

Do you feel more balanced now? When you have balance, you can know that you are not alone, but exist together as part of heaven, earth, and all of nature. You become free and can live a creative life and one that benefits many. You can also accurately see yourself and reality so you can get yourself back on track.

A Love Poem for You

Ilchi Lee giving a finger heart

Hongik

Hongik is a beautiful poem, and humbleness.

Hongik is infinite art and enlightenment.

Hongik is love, faith, and gratitude.

Hongik is a sense of responsibility, patience, and forgiveness.

Hongik is a life of health, happiness, and peace.

Hongik is planning, design, prayer, and creation,

and it is endlessly rising to the challenge for boundless freedom.

Hongik is brain power.

With reconciliation, humanity coexists, benefitting all.

Humanity makes peace through Earth Management.

~~~~
I bring you this poem because Hongik is the spirit behind everything I do and teach, and it is the basis of a peaceful and harmonious world. It is the way human beings can coexist with each other and the Earth in health, happiness, and peace. Translated literally, the Korean word “Hongik” means “widely benefitting.”
How can you revive the spirit of Hongik within yourself? It naturally arises when you connect with your true self—your soul and divinity. This opens up the light within you and allows you to receive pure, bright energy from the Source of life.
When the Hongik spirit is alive within you, you can take Hongik action in the world around you, designing clear goals to benefit the most people you can. I’ve tried to express the Hongik spirit in everything I do, and I’ve been lucky to have many people join me in my actions and projects. Together, our drive to live in a Hongik way has turned into what we call the Earth Citizen Movement.
An Earth Citizen is someone who recognizes that they depend on and are responsible for the Earth and all the life on it. They’ve realized that all life is One. Living as an Earth Citizen is one of the ultimate expressions of the Hongik spirit. We hope many people take on this identity for themselves.
What is your way of expressing Hongik?
There’s No Work Greater Than Love
Young couple hugging
[Photo by Prostock-studio @ Envato Elements]
The soul awakens when pure love arises out of contrition, forgiveness, and gratitude for all things. Then you can become a pure soul, and your heart and brain are connected.
Those whose hearts and brains are not connected look at everything through the filter of thought. They can’t be grateful, can’t be moved, and can’t shed tears.
There is no work greater than love. Practicing Hongik (widely benefitting) is practicing love.
Only those who’s souls have awakened can achieve Chunhwa (becoming heaven).
No one rouses your soul for you. It awakens as you choose and practice Hongik for yourself.
Let love overflow in your heart.
Let love fill your heart.
Illuminate the world with gratitude and pure love.
Let’s create a world of healing filled with gratitude and love.
[Video] Change Your Walk to Change Your Life
How do you walk? Do you lean forward or back? Are you hunched over, or do you walk with your shoulders back? Are your steps heavy or light?
How you walk can tell you a lot about your health, as well as your happiness, mindset, and even level of confidence. As a basic repetitive motion that involves our whole body, changing how you walk can also help you alter your health and attitude.
In the video above, I give you tips on how to walk mindfully with confidence. See how to manage your weight distribution, to use your toes, and where to focus in order to have more energy, confidence, and a positive mind. You can also reduce the strain you put on your body.
I call this style of walking Longevity Walking (Jangsaeng Walking in Korean), because it not only helps you live longer in good health, but gives you a feeling of youthful vitality. You can learn more about this style of walking in my book, I’ve Decided to Live 120 Years: The Ancient Secret to Longevity, Vitality, and Life Transformation.
Here is a diagram from the book to give you a clearer idea of how to do it:
Ilchi Lee's Longevity Walking
I love to walk. It makes me happy. How do you feel when you walk?
Suitable Stress Is a Vitamin for Growth
woman meditating while lying on an incline
[Photo by AYAimages via Envato Elements]
Normally, modern society asks us to compete to survive. We need to do better and be better than others to get a better job and have better things and attract better people. This constant competition causes us stress that can damage our physical and mental health if we can’t manage it.
Having the economy partially on hold right now though lets many of us realize there’s a different kind of stress. Having nothing to do, nothing to focus on, not knowing how you should spend your time is also incredibly stressful. This floating state may make you feel that your social impact is negligible because you don’t know how you should use the life energy you have. The stress we are under when we believe that our existence has no value darkens our souls.
On the other hand, when our survival or need for safety is threatened and we need to struggle fiercely to survive, we don’t suffer from such emotional and mental malaise. Although this kind of situation is also stressful, it can energize us as well. No one commits suicide when they’re trying to survive, but having a lot of time on your hands with little to do may cause you to think a lot of useless thoughts and suffer from depression.
There’s a related story about mudfishes. After putting put only mudfishes in a pond, a guy found that they were weak and easily caught disease. When he asked someone with a lot of experience raising mudfish, he got a surprising reply: “Put one or two catfishes in there with them.” So, when he put the catfishes in the pond, the mudfishes woke up and paid attention. With the catfishes catching and eating any lazy mudfishes, the little guys really got moving, becoming healthier and not getting sick.
You can create a kind of stress that gives you the urgency of survival without the self-distorting stress of competition. Having a vision for your life that you are passionate about creates a suitable stress that can be a vitamin for growth, imbuing your life with vitality. Stress that you choose, that is active, and that answers the longings of your heart rewards you with inner riches. It is a stress of competition with yourself.
Instead of waiting for the rest of the world to decide what will come to pass, why not choose a vision of the future for yourself. No matter what the circumstances, the future is yours to create. If you master your brain by mastering your energy, you can overcome any challenge.
Heart Vision Meditation
How do you access your inner knowing and unveil a purpose or goal that will give meaning to your life?
Quietly close your eyes and bring your awareness inside, into your chest. Tap your chest with your palms or fingertips and feel the vibrations this makes inside you. Exhale through your mouth to clear your chest of any stuck energy.
Once your chest feels clearer and you feel better able to focus there, rest one hand on your chest. Ask yourself simply, “What do I really want to create?” Speak your answer out loud so that you can hear your own voice. Try to feel how your heart responds. What do you feel in your chest? Do you feel moved by what you said?
Don’t be satisfied wtih rational, trite answers. Any answer you have to think about is not real and will not motivate you during the inevitable tough times. You’ll get an answer only when you search for it earnestly with your whole heart. If you ask yourself this question again and again, seriously and earnestly, sooner or later you a genuine answer will come to you, breaking through the many walls of fear, worry, and doubt, and of your preconceptions of who you think you should be. You are the only one who can find an answer for yourself.
Once you choose a goal, you can live according to your choices, and your life will start to organize around your goal. If you truly love your goal, though it will take you through times of stress, it will also be a source of infinite growth and fulfillment.
