Television appearance, Tattoos, Teaching, and Internet Silence

writer monkeyLads! A very quick note to let you all know that I’m heading into internet silence for a wee while. I’ve been a lazy writer-monkey over the holidays, and if I’m to meet my very tight 2014 deadlines, I need to get my butt back in the chair, my fingers back on the keyboard and my head back in the game.

Two things before I go:

I’ll be on RTE TV’s Today Show next Friday evening (4.30ish), talking to Dáithí O Sé and Maura Derrane about what it’s like to write genre fiction, most especially what it’s like to have such amazing fans (we’ll be talking tattoos and miniature books etc. Of course, I have the tattoo designs I’ve done over the years for fans but if anyone has photos of the finished pieces and would like to share them with the audience, just get in touch, OK?)

Bookings are now open for the writing course I’ll be hosting in the Writer’s Centre on Sat 1st and 8th of February. This will be an intensive two day course, and is for writers looking to complete or polish a fantasy novel (horror/magic realism/high fantasy/paranormal romance: all types of fantasy are welcome). The course itself will focus on the attendees, and will be tailored to suit them. Time is limited and exercises will be general to the group, but designed to tackle specific problems or stumbling blocks each attendee may be facing in their own project.

OK. That’s it for now folks. I won’t be around so much until February but you can be sure I’ll pop into twitter and FB every now and again if there’s any news.

Happy new year to you all, see you soon,

Celine

Snow Queen Giveaway Prints are In

Snowqueen print

So the prints arrived for the Book Smugglers Art Giveaway. The printers messed up slightly and the size is a little larger than anticipated which means I need to run out and buy a new mount before I can send the winner off their print. But never mind! They’re lovely quality, limited editions (only six in this print run – two of which are destined for my Walker and A&U editors) so I’m happy to let them go out into the world :)

There’s three days left, so if you’d like to be in with a chance to own one of these, pop on over to the Book Smugglers and leave your name.

Drawing Give-away: pencil art

Yeay!, the pencil line-drawing is completed and ready to be painted. The final (colour) piece of art-work will be given away on December 20th as part of the Book Smugglers Smugglivius celebrations. It depicts a scene from one of my favorite Hans Christian Anderson stories, The Snow Queen, and shows the story’s heroine, Gerda, in the castle of the wonderful Robber Maiden. (for a high res version click the drawing)

Podcasts and tattoos

Sorry to be so rushed in these blog posts but I’m story-boarding to a very tight deadline so I barely have time to look up these days.

All Dogs go to HeavenFirst off, I did an interview with the lovely Aidan and Meg over at Flipped. We talked mostly about my career in animation, and a little bit about writing. So if you’re interesting in hearing about how I got into the business and what movies I worked on, you can find that interview over at Flippedpodcast.

BlackWolfSecondly I finally got around to designing this tattoo for a very patient fan. She’s waited more than a year for this! Thankfully after all that waiting, she loved it :) This is Christopher Garron in his Wolf form.

I can’t wait to see the tattoo when it’s done.

(If you click the picture it will bring you to a high res version)

Fantasy Writing Course, Dublin, 2014

Why_Write_Fiction__by_tinycowardI’m just popping in briefly to say I’ll be hosting a workshop in the Irish Writers’ Centre, Dublin on February 1st and February 8th 2014. The Fantasy Novel Writing Course is an intensive two day course for writers looking to complete or polish a fantasy novel (horror/magic realism/high fantasy/paranormal romance — all types of fantasy are welcome) The course itself will focus on the attendees, and will be tailored to suit them. Time is limited and exercises will be general to the group, but designed to tackle specific problems or stumbling blocks each attendee may be facing in their own project. So, come along with a clear idea in your mind of what it is that’s not working in your project, and over the course of the two Saturdays you will learn from each other and hopefully gain from my experience as a published writer.

Please contact the Irish Writers’ Centre for details.

I hope you are safe and warm…

Hi guys,

132_MSF_Logo_low resolutionPlease considered taking the cash from just one of your planned Christmas-time treats (if you’re lucky enough to have such) and donate it to Medicin Sans Frontieres  (aka Doctors Without Borders or Medics Without Borders) Specifically their Typhoon Relief Fund which you can donate to directly, knowing that the funds will go to relief of the terrible situation in the Philippines.

You don’t need to give much. Imagine if every one of us gave just a tenner? How much difference it would make.

hugs to you, I hope you are safe and warm,

Celine

Into the Grey Hallowe’en Bookplate

I know I said I wouldn’t do any more bookplates (the demand just got too high, and I hadn’t the time to keep up) But how could I say no to my lovely Walker editors? Here is a wee bookplate I drew for their Hallowe’en spooky book giveaway. A signed copy will be winging its way to the winner pretty soon :)
