Traitor in the Scottish Isles ARCs Arrived - Woot!!!

My ARC copies arrived today. Can I say how much I love this cover? And the internal formatting is fantastic. (Totally nerding out about this one). Being half Scots, I spend one month per year in Scotland doing family things and researching my novels. "Traitor" is set in an area few tourists visit, making it super fun to share. This story about enemies to lovers focuses on a model and an MI6 agent--complete opposites in every way.

Traitor in the Scottish Isles is in the Wild! Woot!!!

Every book has a journey, and this one definitely had a wacky ride to publication. The weirdest part was receiving a green light from a publishing house to write the story and then having them change their tactics. Yada. Yada. Yada. It happens--especially in publishing. That's life. We've all been there in our careers. What's the saying? "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

So, I put on my big girl trousers and (drum roll please)... This Book Baby received a professional 5-star review. AND Peeps are loving it!!!

In this thrilling adventure, Sheridan goes undercover to locate missing fellow MI6 agents and immobilize the traitor. There's just one hitch: Cairstie Henderson. She knows who he is-and she detests him.

Muckle Flugga

Those who follow me and read my books know I research my novels extensively and almost always visit the settings where they take place. This summer, I'm going to Muckle Flugga, a small rocky island north of Unst in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. It is often described as the northernmost point of the British Isles. Reaching this remote point of Scotland requires flights and three separate ferries- an adventure in and of itself. We'll see otters, dolphins, maybe a pod of orcas (if lucky), and all sorts of rare bird colonies. Though we love the outdoors and wildlife, this trip to Shetland has nothing to do with the fun things we'll witness and everything to do with its history. Stay tuned.

Norway-Scotland Research Trip

There's nothing I enjoy more about writing than collecting research for my novels. I interview professionals in the field (fascinating) and travel to different locations to get a sense of not only the area's flavor but also the people, political climate, architecture, scents, wildlife, and flora and fauna, too.

In November, we took an expeditionary cruise up the coast of Norway to the Russian border, making over thirty stops. A museum curator in the Lofoten Islands was kind enough to open his museum after 10 p.m. so I could gather information for the first leg of a series that I've been asked to write.

The second leg of my research will take place in Scotland this spring, and I am so excited about it! Woot! I wish I could tell you more, but that's not possible at this time.

5-Star Review

Reader’s Favorite Five-Star Review: "A modern-day spy thriller set amongst the windswept and remote Scottish Isles of Uist. Fun and exciting! A fast-paced, riveting story."

Don't mind my squeals as I pinch myself:). I was totally blown away when I opened my email and saw a 5-star review from Reader's Favorite for Traitor in the Scottish Isles in my inbox.

Although 5-star reviews might not mean much to readers (we're more interested in finding an absorbing story), they do provide clout for authors in the publishing world.

After all the changes at my publishing house this last year, then going hybrid and receiving this, well, it's a really big deal.

Prequels

It's been fun stepping back in time with my Roxbury Heirs/Roxburgh Scions characters to create younger versions of these endearing characters, plus apply foreshadowing for things to come. My critique partners loved meeting Elyse, Sophy, and Cairstie's renegade brother, Rod, the heir to their father's fortune and title. Other fun things for fans of the series are Elyse meeting Henry, a stolen treasured family heirloom, and a unique mystery on the campus of an ancient university. Stay tuned.

Cover Reveal Post

Cover revelations always make me nervous. This is the first cover I've designed. Yes, I have design experience, but I've never created my own cover before. It was super fun to tie it in with my series. Since the upheavals in my traditional publishing house, I determined to release this one on my own. It's been a learning curve and a fun one, too. Stay tuned for more to come on this.

Announcement Time!!!

Being a traditionally published author has been amazing, but part of me has longed to dip my toe into a different arena for a very long time. With drastic changes occurring at my publishing house, I put on my big girl pants and did something hard—and it feels amazing!!! I created my own press and am going hybrid. Happy Birthday, Balquhidder Books, LLC. (named for a Scottish village where mine and my husband's people are from). Have you ever done something hard and felt amazing afterward? Then you know exactly how this feels. Wahoo!!!
