Roth: Canceling student debt doesn’t fix problem
The government, particularly at the federal level, has morphed from a protector of individual rights to a bizarre game show. It is consistently giving away cash and prizes to a small group of people at the cost of the unwitting sponsors, the taxpayers. One of those giveaways that has resurfaced is the call to cancel student debt. While the costs of college have become enormous and in many cases exceed the value of what students receive in benefits, canceling debt for some or all graduates does not fix the problem. The problem, not surprisingly, begins with the government itself. The federal government took over the majority of college lending under President Obama, and it has become the largest predatory lender in the country. It preys on teenagers …

Enes Kanter Considers Move to Florida

Current NBA free agent and outspoken human rights advocate Enes Kanter Freedom says he’s ready to consider moving to the Sunshine State after a meeting with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The former Celtic, who gained notoriety this year for wearing shoes protesting against China’s oppression of its Muslim Uyghur minorities, posted a tweet with DeSantis in which he said he would consider the governor’s “offer” to move to Florida.
It was a pleasure to meet with @GovRonDeSantis
Huge thanks for your support and friendship.
I’ll definitely consider your offer to move to Florida pic.twitter.com/pMPwt6YAgw

While prior to this past season, Freedom was primarily known for criticizing the freedom suppressing policies of the Erdogan government in his native Turkey, this year, he took his protests to a new level by targeting the NBA’s most lucrative business partner outside the United States, communist China.
Most notably, Freedom wore sneakers saying “Free Tibet” early in the season.

Don Jr. launches gun rights group

Donald Trump Jr. is launching a new gun rights group that he says will be a vehicle for fighting against Democratic gun control efforts.
Fox News Digital has learned that Trump Jr. will be launching the Second Amendment Task Force and will serve as the chairman of the group as it works to protect Americans’ right to bear arms.
“The Second Amendment is the whole ballgame; it’s the freedom that protects all of our other freedoms. Unfortunately the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress are hellbent on eroding our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, whether it’s nominating radical gun-grabbers to senior positions in the executive branch or pushing anti-gun legislation,” Trump Jr. told Fox News Digital. “The Second Amendment Task Force is entirely devoted to ensuring the Left is never successful in disarming American citizens.”

SCOTUS lean in favor of ‘Remain in Mexico’
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Tuesday in an immigration case centered on the Biden administration’s attempt to end the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy. The justices appeared to lean away from President Biden’s attempt to reverse the policy.
Several of the court’s Republican-appointed justices said they agreed with attorneys representing Texas, which argued that it is illegal for U.S. immigration officials to allow migrants to enter the country while their claims are being heard.
A decision in the case, Biden vs. Texas, will be handed down by the end of June.
Attorneys for the administration argued that there is nowhere to hold hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers in detention for months or years as their claims trickle through the courts.
Elizabeth Prelogar, the U.S. solicitor general, told the justices there were over 220,000 migrants at th …

A History of Conflict and Conquests

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.
He was one of the most consequential public figures of the last century. Winston Churchill was a man of many interests. Even now, his paintings fetch prices approaching those of the master Hunter Biden. Always fascinated with words, Sir Winston mobilized the English language and skillfully used them to help win a world war.Churchill was also interested in history. That curiosity combined with his considerable writing talents to produce his four volume classic, The History of the English-Speaking Peoples. He began writing in the 30s during his “wilderness years.” He didn’t finish it until the early 1950s. It begins with the Roman invasion of Britain shortly after the crucifixion of Christ. It concludes with the end of the second Boer War in 1902. By his own admission, it is a chronology of people, events and conflicts that were of interest to him, not necessarily a scholarly presentation of history. More than anything else, it is a repetitive story of conquest and conflict. Wars whose names and dates we have forgotten, one after another, interrupted by relative peace. Battles that were constantly changing the borders of Europe and the world. Churchill …

Musk is good for Twitter, & democracy
Howls of outrage started rising long before Twitter’s board finally accepted Elon Musk’s $44 billion offer to buy the company — a huge sign of how important the sale could prove.
On one level, it’s no shock: The board members’ only real alternative was a flagrant violation of their fiduciary duty. But it’s a striking setback to the forces of woke censorship and a win for the free exchange of ideas and information.
The world’s richest man has come out strongly against the ideology animating Twitter’s efforts to suppress opinion its employees dislike and facts that hurt their favored causes.
You can take our word for it. Our 100% accurate (and now New York Times-approved) reporting on the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop got us banned from Twitter in the runup to the 2020 election, greasing the wheels for papa Joe.
So we’ve been watching this development ever since Musk’s March 27 tweet w …

DeSantis Signs Bill Establishing Election Police Unit
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis approved the establishment of a police force to crack down on election fraud.
“I don’t think there’s any other place in the country that you should have more confidence that your vote counts than in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said Monday during the bill signing, Just the News reports.
Indeed, the bill establishes an “Office of Election Crimes and Security” within Florida’s Department of State and will make use of an additional team of investigators from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The bill will also make ballot harvesting a felony and mandate that election overseers conduct annual screens of voter rolls every year to look for voters who are no longer eligible to vote.

FBI warns of cyberattacks on US food plants after a dozen hit by mysterious fires

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Cyber Division issued a statement last week warning of potential ransomware attacks against the agricultural industry as more than a dozen food processing plants across the United States suffered damage from mysterious fires. “Cyber actors may perceive [agricultural] cooperatives as lucrative targets with a willingness to pay due to the timesensitive role they play in agricultural production,” the FBI notice warned. “A significant disruption of grain production could impact the entire food chain, since grain is not only consumed by humans but also used for animal feed,” it added. “In addition, a significant disruption of grain and corn production could impact commodities trading and stocks. An attack that disrupts processing at a protein or dairy facility can quickly result in spoiled products and have cascading effects down to the farm level as animals cannot be processed.” The FBI’s wa …
