JOURNAL OF A DEBUT AUTHOR - CHAPTER ELEVEN: Excuse me, but what the hell are Teacher's Notes?

During the publication process, I got an email from Wakefield Press asking me to have a go at writing Teacher's Notes.
My first thoughts were what on earth are those, and how on earth do I write them?!
But obviously I gave it a red hot go!
And it was a very interesting experience...
What are Teacher's Notes?
The hope with a lot of books, especially books in children's fiction, is that they may be distributed to schools and taught to kids as part of their curriculum.
This could...

SONGS AS POETRY: Asta.

Dynamite.
Asta.
Been taking my time not thinking about you
Just walking my mind, walking my mind
Yeah, I could call but I know I don't have to
'Cause I'm doing alright, feeling alright

JOURNAL OF A DEBUT AUTHOR - CHAPTER TEN: How do you write an author bio?

You know what?
I don't really know how to write an author bio. They probably do need to match your personality and fit you and your work specifically, but also they need to change depending on what they are being used for.
And while I was researching how to do this, I came across some tips, that I have added into this post.
So I guess this post is a little more instructional and about what I learned on my own journey, instead of being a behind the scenes look.
So like I said...

STORYTIME MONTHLY UPDATE: January 2019.

As always, here I am late with this thing!
Turns out it is time consuming to have a book one month away from release date. While also working full time. And trying to keep writing new fiction because I just go CRAZY if I feel like I’ve made no progress on my other stories. I really don’t like not working on anything, but at the moment I’m finding it so hard to fit it all in!
Which I guess is not really that surprising!

JOURNAL OF A DEBUT AUTHOR - CHAPTER NINE: Do authors get to choose their own book covers?

This is the post I've been most excited about writing in this series, because I have lots of cool behind the scenes drafts and stuff to share!
To start with, my question was - Do authors get to choose their own book covers?
The answer to that is no.
Mostly.
Usually.
Authors don't usually get a lot of input at all into stuff like that. And that of course makes sense, because it is really a marketing decision, and therefore is managed by professionals in that field.
However, I am very e...

2019 Commitment: READ WIDELY - Why does everyone keep saying that?

Look, I'm a little late off the ground here, but it's still (sort of) that time of year where everyone makes some decisions about next year, which they then do or don’t follow through with!
And because I am obsessed with books, obviously my commitments have a lot to do with books.... and basically the topic of reading widely.
READ WIDELY!!!
So I have heard this said very frequently, with the first and foremost person that comes to mind being the excellent Australian YA autho...

JOURNAL OF A DEBUT AUTHOR - CHAPTER EIGHT: An Author Photo?! Whaaat?

Yeah, I had to get one of these.
A professional one.
And of course I messed up my hair the day before so it was a weird colour. And obviously the picture I chose looks like I’m not wearing any pants (I am) and I also forgot to take off the dumb hair-band I was wearing around my wrist. And I really felt so awkward when I get my photo taken and I think my smile looks really strange.
But those are just the joys of the author photo.
Apparently.
:)

So let me start off...

YA AUTHOR INTERVIEW: My very first one ever!

I'm very excited to say that I was hosted on fellow author S.J.Morgan's blog this week for my first ever author interview!
That was a strange experience! Talking about yourself in an interview. Weird!
But also very cool too!
I talk to S.J.Morgan about my upcoming debut novel, MAKING FRIENDS WITH ALICE DYSON, about my writing process, how I got published and all that sort of jazz.
And hopefully I didn't say anything silly.
Sigh. But I bet I did!
Anyway, if you'd like to check out my ve...
