Making Her Want It

Today please welcome guest author Tina Donahue…

All writers of erotic romance know that women do not want heroes who are rapists. You cannot force a woman to express passion or to desire a guy. That concept went out with the bodice rippers.

Today, erotic romance writers must make certain to present the hero as commanding but with a tender core. He must be convincing enough with the heroine that by the time their clothes are flying off, she wants exactly what he has to offer.

That was one of the ...

It's Just A Job. Part 4, Demon Hunters

Demon Hunters

Demon Hunters originally began their existence in a euphamistic sense as garbage disposal experts.  Whatever the exorcists couldn't deal with, the demon hunters did.  Ruthlessly and with deadly force.

Their job description was narrow and highly specialized.

Through popular culture and media, especially films like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Supernatural, demon hunters' job descriptions have warped and evolved.  Their roster of duties and range of expertise have broadened...

HEART OF VENGEANCE Now Availabe at B&N On-Line

My historical romantic suspense, Heart of Vengeance, is now available in ePub format at Barnes & Noble on-line.

I had to laugh when I saw the "official" biography B&N have for me.  I've apparently spent the last two decades writing escapist drama.  Gosh darn, really?  That would have been nice.  I only published my first book in 2000.  Someone has too many fingers on their hands, I think….

To find her father's killer, Helena of York must pose as a Norman in the great halls of Richard I's...

"Perfect" – HEART OF VENGEANCE Is Top Pick at Night Owl Reviews

I received a handful of reviews over the last few days, including a doozy, perfect five star review from Night Owl Reviews.  So I'll dump them all into one post rather than string them all out over days and days.

The first is a four star review from Book Binge for Teal's erotic urban fantasy romance, Beauty's Beasts. I really like the reviews from Book Binge.  They're long and considered.  Here's the relevant bit, although you might like to read the full length review (there's quite a bit...

Frequency of Posts These Days

Something had to give, and unfortunately, this blog is it.  Between 40+ hours of work, a house that looks like a bomb went off in it, and a manuscript that is falling further behind schedule every day, and a blog that keeps screaming "Feed me! Feed me!" on a daily basis, I've had to make some choices.

Google tells me that I've been posting an average of 13.1 times a week, which shocked the crap out of me.  I thought I was posting daily.  Ha!  No wonder I'm feeling so stressed.

I'll be cutting b...

It's Julia Templeton's Birthday Today!

Two of my backlist "best sellers" — at least on my royalty statements, anyway — are Forbidden and Dangerous Beauty.  It seems that historical romance readers prefer to read their romances on paper.  Hold-outs to the last. :)

These two romances were both written under the Anastasia Black pen name, because I co-wrote them with friend and author Julia Templeton, who these days is off writing erotic regencies for Kensington.

Today is her birthday (exactly 6 months apart from mine), and as Julia is ...

Finding An Editor For Your Erotic Romance

I received an email from Corinna the other day.

I would love you to do a blog post on how to find an editor. Not necessarily a critique group, but an editor whom I would be willing to pay.

I don't want anyone I know to read it for me  because I want a clear eyed view of my writing and storytelling abilities.  Friends often tell you what you want to hear, or don't want to hurt your feelings.

First up, if you've actually finished a manuscript, bravo!  Of the umpteeumth people in the world that...

5 Great Romantic Historical Movies

So what are the best romantic historical movies out there?

Recently, I watched Shining Through, and commented here that I thought it was a bit dated and that World War II movies had had their time.  Readers disagreed with me.  As I hadn't finished watching the entire movie, I deferred to the readers until I'd finished watching the entire movie.  I've finished the movie now, and I can see why romance readers love it so much.  It's certainly got a lovely ending!  But it still finished pretty...
