A burial Mound "Skråningehøj" in Bornholm with a 2.3 m high Bautasten (Menhir) on top.

Valence House

Valence House is the only surviving manor house in Dagenham. It dates back to medieval times and is partially surrounded by a moat. The musuem is currently home to the strange and fascinating Dagenham Idol on long term loan and display from Colchester Museum. The Idol has been dated to the late Neolithic, see the comments on our page for more about the idol.

Recently discovered dolmen, or megalithic tomb, during construction of an underground garage in Sion, Switzerland.

Gors Fawr Outliers

Stone Rows of the Preseli Hills - Solar, Lunar alignments and tri-stones? New research by David A. Fisher, see the comments. Two bluestone standing stones (both over 2m tall) sited to the NNE of the Gors Fawr circle. At the beginning of the 20th century it was thought that the stones were linked to the circle by an avenue.

Brenig 51

Sunday Feb 17th - Sacred Site Archaeology and Meditation Walk around the Brenig Trail in Denbighshire, north-east Wales. More details in the comments on our page. A reconstructed Platform Cairn named Brenig 51. This magnificent monument has 26 small stones in a perfect circle, with a 7 metre wide flat cairn ring around, raised a couple feet above the ground. Has a magnificent view to the south-west over Llyn Brenig.

Machrie Moor 1.

Stone Circle in Arran, part of the Machrie Moor complex (see the nearby sites from this page). This circle is comprised of 11 stones, six granite boulders and five sandstone slabs, set alternatively to form a circle.

Hoyle Court 01

This rock art panel in a suburb of Shipley, West Yorkshire was moved to its current position during the development of a housing estate. It is recorded as having two cups with partial rings, a single cup and extended grooves. 'England's Rock Art' has more details, with a plan of the rock and its motifs, photogrammetry and a 3D model.

Old Bourtreebush

Recumbent Stone Circle in Aberdeenshire. Old Bourtreebush is described by Aubrey Burl as very unusual. The recumbent, if it is a recumbent, is on the south-east side, whilst the south side boasts the broadest megalith in the district.

Dolmen de Penquélenne

Dolmen in Finistère. Lessons to all megalithic monument hunters. (1) Accept kind offers of locals to show you where monument is - I didn't. (2) Be wary of looking for monuments when the maize is high - I didn't. (3) Take a gps and reference with you - I didn't. This monument is about 50 metres into the field of maize so can be almost impossible to find.
