Carreg Samson, Abercastle

This Neolithic burial chamber stands in splendid isolation overlooking the bay. The capstone is supported on three of the seven upright stones. Earlier this century stones were used to block the holes in the sides of this tomb and it was used as a sheep-shelter.

Danby Rigg Cross Dyke (North End Farm Side)

Cross Dykes in North Yorkshire. A sketch showing the sites in the area (see the Nearby Sites list on our page for these). This cross dyke does not appear on the modern OS map and whilst denuded is still visible.

Slemming Jættestue

Jættestue (Passage Grave) in Randers, Denmark. A scan from a 1993 diapositive: the entrance to this well preserved passage grave, slightly restored in 1984. (Danish term 'Jættestue' translates as ~ giant's room/chamber). Surrounded by the buildings of Krogvad farm.

Cast Hills

Cast Hills is part of a probable Iron Age circular enclosure in North Yorkshire. 25 earthfast boulders and a boundary ditch are visible. Curving east to west they are inside the wall running alongside the road by the entrance to Castiles Farm.

Green Gates 02

Andy H writes: "Situated a few yards NNE of the Badger Stone on Ilkley Moor, this Cup and Ring marked boulder has an unusual 'half-flower' motif on its northern face. Carry on down the hillside and you will eventually arrive at the Barmishaw Stone (now very badly faded, but featuring 'Ilkley Ladder' style markings), and further on to Willy Hall's Wood Stone amongst the trees.

St. Piran's Lost Oratory

A very flooded St. Piran's Oratory. Several years' rainwater by the look of it. At least it isn't 'lost' in the physical sense at the moment, but how long can it be preserved like this?. This 'lost oratory' was the site of a 6th century early Christian church established by St. Piran, an Irish missionary who was the patron saint of tinners, and the most important saint in Cornwall. It lies a few hundred yards west of the ancient cross that also bears his name,

Bronkham Hill

A small hole has opened up to a huge sink hole on Bronkham Hill, West Dorset. "The sink hole now appears stable and the National Trail is back open. Sink holes occur naturally, but our advice is always take care and if you have concerns report them to Dorset Council."

Hoddom Parish Church

Church with cross fragments, Roman altar and sculptured stone in Dumfries and Galloway. Now roofless since a fire in 1975, and built in an unusual 'square cross' shape, we eventually found the sculptured stone built into the eastern wall of the southern 'arm' of the church. I am trying to find more details on the stone - if anyone can help, I'd be delighted to hear.

Hammersholm

Rock Art at Bornholm, Denmark a single rock, discovered in 2017 has 18 ship carvings and even more cup-marks. This new site may prove to contain the largest number of rock carvings in Denmark so far.

Lime Tree Modern Stone Circle

Lime Tree Modern Stone Circle located near Ripon, North Yorkshire. It was erected piecemeal throughout 1999, with new stones being laid at each of the Pagan festivals. The Stone Circle has been used for ceremonies such as handfasting, child naming/blessings and memorial services.
