St Patrick’s Isle and Monk's Tower

Tthe Monk's Tower was one of the first structures built on St.Patrick's Isle which overlooks the town of Peel on the Isle of Man. It was built by Christian monks who needed a place to safe guard their valuables against Viking Invaders. The entrance door was made about 20 feet high. It was built that way so that if there were any Vikings attacks, the Monks would climb a ladder and then pull up the ladder.

Brithdir Mawr

An account of the creation of Brithdir Mawr stone ring in south west Wales, taken from the construction diary of member Ros Briagha. Constructed using traditional techniques without the use of heavy machinery. Brithdir Mawr stone circle, on Brithdir Mawr farm near Carn Ingli in the Welsh Preseli Hills. These stones were found buried in the field, and were pulled up with rope, wood, pulleys etc. Possibly a Bronze Age circle that was destroyed, but rebuilt over the course of two years, using traditional methods.

MegPortal Online Zoom chat, this Sunday 17th @ 8pm, all welcome

The prehistoric meets the present with our first informal Zoom meeting. Isolating when you can is still good and pubs and the like are unlikely to be open for some time. A chance to meet some of the faces behind those posts and feel less isolated. Portal Founder Andy B will start things off with a short live tutorial then it's a free for all to talk or just listen. It won't be much like the attached photo, and hopefully with a few more people, but we can dream and talk of past visits.
