Tholos do Cerro do Malhanito
Tholos do Cerro do Malhanito is a small but impressive structure in Faro, Portugal as the standing stones and the entrance are still complete. It is oriented at the east and it is dug in the schist stone. It is dated late Bronze, beginning Iron Age. The Tholos of the Cerro do Malhanito, near Monte da Estrada, was identified by A. Gradim in 1999, during the archaeological monitoring of restoration activities in the Alcoutim municipality. The monument stands on top of a hill that stands out in the surrounding landscape, isolated by two narrow meanders of the Ribeira da Foupana, whose valley dominates from the top of its left slope.

Wanna Steingrab (10)
CharcoalBurner89 (Uwe) has found and posted many archive photos by Konrad Schäfer - see our latest photos list for more. Top photo: The megalithic grave of Kronskark' before 1957. A partly damaged chambered tomb in Lower Saxony. Originally it wasn't large, nowadays most of the capstones are missing. The site itself has a fantastic ambience - the megalithic tomb is located in the middle of the woods NE from Ahlen-Falkenberg.

May Hill
The hill includes a circular trench 100 metres in diameter said to be an Iron Age earthwork, surrounding a mound that is probably a round barrow. The hill is made distinctive by a clump of trees on its top and is visible for miles around and from many hill forts in the area.

Westward Corner Round Barrow
There are hundreds of barrows and other sites still shown in green on our maps, which means we don't yet have a photo of them. Join us in tracking down, photographing and appreciating these lesser known but valuable sites.. This barrow, which dates to the Bronze Age C 2300-800 AD, is located on the promontory overlooking Porthkerry Bay and is surrounded on four sides by modern housing. The mound itself is fairly well preserved and rises to a height of 1.8 m with a diameter of 9 m and was noted during an inspection in the year 1976 to be surrounded by a ditch of irregular depth with the east and north sides measuring 4.6 m wide. The ditch however, although a contemporary feature, is thought to have been disturbed fairly recently by modern quarrying with the west and south sides in particular being affected. Both of the east and north ditches had apparently been filled in by 1982 leaving only the ditch on the west side extant which measures around 1 m deep and 2 m wide extending and abruptly terminating to the south.

Peterchurch St Peter's Well
Although still marked on the OS map the well has now been tanked and the delightful bathing pool used by rheumatics shown in Leathers Folklore of Herefordshire has been filled with concrete. All that can be seen is the head of (possibly) St Peter peering from the undergrowth. The information sign suggests the stone head is probably Celtic and predates the Christian adoption of the site.

Drizzlecombe menhir 2
Top photo by Beckie Burr, who writes: Jupiter glowing bright in the night sky above the magical Drizzlecombe complex on Dartmoor. Also known as the Bone Stone, its one of the most uniquely shaped menhirs Ive ever visited, appearing to transform with every step you take around it. A splendid 4.2 metre tall stone standing up and across the downhill end of the Drizzlecombe stone row C, as a blocker. The stone row runs away uphill towards the northeast from it to its cairn at the top.

Cista do Cerro do Malhão
This Cista do Cerro do Malhão is located on a strategic high hilltop near the town of Martim Longo. Unfortunately, MEO, an internet provider thought they needed the highest point in the area too, and built an awful 4G tower next to the cist and destroyed the large tumulus. So some of the pictures are quite shocking. Still it is very worthwhile to visit this cist and enjoy its well chosen location.

Adsdean Down Tumuli
More about the unique twin barrows on Adsdean Down on our page, from the free ebook "Secrets of the High Woods" about the South Downs LiDAR project from a few years back.. These barrows are unlike any other of the approximately 250 examples known nationally. Two bell barrows of near uniform dimensions which merge together to form a conjoined or twinned monument. The surrounding ditch encircles both barrows to make a single platform for both mounds. Adjacent, and to the right of the linked barrows, is a smaller bowl barrow, suggesting possibly a family group?
