Symbols Need Potential!
You take something concrete, like a book. But that is only a symbol of a story. The words inside are made of letters that are symbols that represent sounds that we have identified as belonging to words and those words are symbols of things.
Take the word 'orange.' A symbol for the fruit. Finally, something concrete, we can hold in our hand. But what is an orange? It is a group of atoms that have decided to coalesce in the same place and hold the energy of an orange.
And what are atoms made of? Aside from all the science explanations, atoms are pure potential. They are potential that can become oranges, books, buildings, trees, etc.
The interesting thing about atoms is that they have an activating process. This vasty nothingness that we call empty space is not empty at all, it is filled with the potential of enormous energy, boundless creativity and endless knowledge. This potential has a very specific activation method, however. It needs feedback, a call and response, a request, whatever you want to call it. It needs to be activated by some kind of invitation, otherwise we would be overrun with all sorts of...well, don't get me started.
We call this potential to us all the time, every single day! We are very powerful callers and creators! We like to think that we aren't, but just listen to what you talk about the most. You invite potential into your life by your words, actions, thoughts. That's the very most liberating thing I can think of! Potential is such heady stuff, and it's all around us, ripe for the picking!
Next time, maybe I'll tell you about the conversation I had with a giant rock. Until then, be well!!

What You Fear Already Is
Have you noticed this? I discovered it one day while babysitting a young girl who was afraid of the dark. She had to have a nightlight on, or she would be terrified. Her coping mechanism if she didn't have a light on would be to bury her face in her pillow. That did not make sense to me. I mean, how much light is she getting through her pillow? I've found the same coping mechanism in many different scenarios. I can't say that it happens in every instance where we have fear, but in a lot of cases, what we run from is what we are running towards. It just seems to happen that way.Sometimes it's a good thing to look at in life. How many times do we 'hide our face in the pillow' over some fear that has us blocked? Take a look at it yourself and see if this is something that is running in your life. Then it's easier to make a change!

The Science Behind the Science Fiction
In my book, Mission: Subhero, I talk about a little known scientific study that is rather spooky, if you think about it too long.
It reveals that decisions we think we make are showing up in brain scans anywhere from 6-10 seconds before we 'make' the decision. What does that mean?
Is this decision coming from some other source? It is, like some have speculated, that our brain is comprised of conscious and subconscious, and it is this subconscious that is quicker than the conscious? If so, how do we consciously catch up with something like that? And would it be beneficial?
So many questions go through my head with this type of information. The result is so speculative that many different scenarios could be put into theory around them. Which is where Mission: Subhero came from. (Probably a few thousand six-second intervals before it got put down on cyberpaper.)
There is no telling what exactly the six second result means. But I find it fascinating.

So Many Books!
With libraries and bookstores full of books, how are we supposed to know what to read? There is nothing new under the sun, so why do we delve into book after book after book?I think we all are searching for that One Voice. You know, that voice that speaks to you through the written word. The voice that brings clarity and understanding, or pleasure and wonderful emotions. Out of all the books available, we zero in on certain books and we search for that One Voice. You can tell the books that speak to people. They are the ones that get the highest ranking of stars! Even better, they get a descriptive review from readers left for those who are seeking that One Voice too. Finding the right book is a very exacting process. You might be doing it subconsciously, or maybe you just read a book until you realize that it doesn't speak to you and you put it down.Ranking books is our way of attempting to point other people to that One Voice. Finding that One Voice is our way of trying to bring that clarity and pleasure to our lives. The rankings we give books we've read are like gifts for those readers who come after us. In ranking a book, we express the degree of how well we received the clarity or pleasure from the book. We become a trailblazer for all those who follow us down the path of the book we are reviewing.

Watermelon and the Elderly
What do watermelons and the elderly have in common? Usually, not much. I learned this recently. I've been shopping for a sweet couple in their 80s, and one thing that they've told me is that they can't get watermelon anymore. And they miss it!
First of all, it is harder for them to pick up a heavy watermelon, so they don't. Second, there usually is not the option in stores near them that have already cut watermelon for them to buy.
I've solved this for them by buying a watermelon from which I share about 1/4 with them. They don't eat much anymore, so that is about all they can eat before it goes bad.
So just a small reminder: if you have elderly people in your circle, a nice thing to do is share your watermelon with them!

Rip Van Whoodle?
It seems like last week when Mission: Subhero rolled out of the cyberpresses for its debut. But come to find out, it's been three years!
Well, I haven't been idle, that's for sure. In that time I have written or co-authored 5 more books, all of which surprised me. The surprise is a story for another day, but the 5 books? It's been what has kept me from writing any posts to update people about what's been going on.
In the intervening three years, there have been many thousands of people who have put my book on their To-Read list. That's been appreciated very much! Thank you! Now, if those many thousands of people actually read it, lol...
My publicist says I need to be more engaging. That's a toughie - - I'm not that engaging. I would rather be one of those elusive writers, hiding from the throngs of adoring fans waiting to get their copy of my books signed. No, wait, that was just a dream...
Anyway, I will be updating about my journey of the last three years in blogs to come. I can't give it all away in the first one, now can I?
If you have to read something, make sure it is something you like to read. And if that happens to be one of my books, all the better! Have a great week, my fellow readers!
