Oh! I forgot!

Some readers pointed out this fine piece by Ed Feser on the morality of lying. Turns out it's a sin.

The best analogy I've heard so far to try to get at the badness of lying vs. the goodness of people doing it in a good cause is this: Suppose you are in some situation like the Great Escape where you need to create a diversion so that innocents can escape. For some reason, it occurs to you to shoot yourself in the foot with a concealed gun. Sure enough, all the guards come running and the innocents escape. You are a good person trying to do good. But nobody would call a bullet through the foot a good thing. Lying is like that. Indeed, part of the point is, if you had considered some other way of creating the diversion, you might not have had to do the bad thing of shooting yourself in the foot. Which is why we have these sorts of thinks in advance instead of trusting to spur of the moment decisions in a panic. It's also why we suggest that building an entire campaign against Planned Parenthood involving shooting oneself in the foot is inadvisable.

Okay, it's a rather improbable scenario, but you get the idea.

Alright then. To work, Shea!

Still under deadline...

...and so no blogging today. I hope to get back in the saddle tomorrow, but might pop in now and then if something big like an entire Islamosphere decides to hold a revolution against their oppressive masters.

But hey! What are the chance of that?

A reader writes...

My mother passed away in her sleep this morning. We are devastated, since she lived upstairs, was always around and was such a help with our disabled children. If you could ask your readers to pray for the repose of her soul and for us, since there are going to be hard times ahead for us, for me in particular now that I won't have her to help.
Father, may her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, And we ask, in the Name of Jesus, that you would swiftly send help to this struggling family and inspire them with wisdom to know what is the best course to take for their children. Guardian angels, guide them and Providence of God give them what they need to care for their children. Mother Mary, pray for them now and pray for their mother at the hour of her death. Amen.

Combine this with Watson...

And you have a perfect formula for creating R2D2 and the T1000 Terminator series.

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

Sayed Mussa Released!

Thanks be to God!

Of course, he still needs lots of prayers, especially for his family. But this is very good news!

Good News from China!

A reader writes:
Mark, at the moment I'm in Jinan, the capitol of Shandong province, and I am pleased to report that today I visited the main Catholic church in Jinan, and in it, ON PUBLIC DISPLAY was a framed picture of Pope Benedict. This is not an underground church, it is around 100 years old and it is the main public Catholic Church in the capitol city of Shandong. Pope Benedict's countenance is on its wall, unmolested. And a new plaster statue of BVM Mary stands in front of this church, in full view of the public.
Good to hear! May the Church in China prosper and grow! And may the Commies, ahem, wither away. Quickly.

Hey! I know a Stunt Double!

She plays the mute but very funny Miss Gould in Manalive. Some of the footage was shot by our Fearless Director, Joey Odendahl.[image error]
