Printopia: Print from iPad/iPhone to Any Printer Connected to Your Mac
I thought printing via iPad would work out of the box with iOS 4.2. Not so. A compatible printer is required. (Anyone have a list of those printers?)
A tweet by Brian Hoff mentioned Printopia. Let me just say this: Wow. Totally impressed with how easy this was to set up. Downloaded the demo, installed it, and then hit the box/arrow icon in Safari on iPad, and boom — there were all the printers connected to my iMac (four of them, actually).
I don't know how much I plan on printing from iPad or iPhone, but $10 is looking like a worthwhile investment right about now.
HDSLR Shopping? What You Want is a Canon 60D
Stu Maschwitz, a self-described "filmmaker and accidental technologist":
The 60D alone has something I routinely wish my 7D had: an articulating LCD screen. This single feature is enough reason to recommend the 60D.
The YouTube video Stu references later showing a Zacuto Z-Finder attached to the articulating screen is convincing. I love my Z-Finder, and with the flip-out screen, the 60D is really compelling. It may be enough to get me to "downgrade" from my 7D. (Although from what Stu says, it wouldn't be much of a downgrade at all.)
Straight Jacket Sleeve for 11" MacBook Air
Sleeves and cases for the 11" MacBook Air are currently hard to come by — I've looked in earnest. I suspect we'll see lots of new options entering the market in the coming weeks, and any new entrants now have a high standard to live up to. The Straight Jacket case by Autum uses domestically tanned leather and are hand-made in the USA. Only 50 are available in this first run, with sizes for the 11" Air, 13" Air, and iPad.

iPhone 4 on a Glif, Manfrotto, GlideTrack, and Tripod
This is a little wacky and definitely looks like overkill. But it was a fun proof-of-concept to throw together. See the test video.
Incidentally, you'll have to tell me if the video plays properly. I'm working exclusively on an 11" MacBook Air today, and I've committed to seeing how long I can go without installing Flash in any of its browsers. Alas, I can't watch the video on Flickr.
Update: @slim tells me I can fake the user agent in Safari to appear as iPad or iPhone (see this article on Daring Fireball). Now I can see the video, and it looks like Flickr has compressed it quite a bit. Oh well. I'd prefer to upload it to Vimeo, but that requires Flash to do so…
Hiring: Interaction Designer at Kickstarter
I've raved about Kickstarter and have already put one of its projects to use. Here's your chance to join a small team of 14 in NYC with offices in the Lower East Side.
From the description:
Your work shows a balance of graphic and interaction design. You're equal parts designer, pragmatist, and technologist. Personality and a sense of play define your work while balancing the need to create usable & intuitive designs. You sweat the little details of interaction design that define a superb experience, and love getting your hands dirty by building what you've designed.
Equity, healthcare benefits, and the opportunity to help make projects come to life are all included.
Grandma's Superhero Therapy Photoshoot
Eugene, writing for My Modern Met:
A few years ago, French photographer Sacha Goldberger found his 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother Frederika feeling lonely and depressed. To cheer her up, he suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations. Grandma reluctantly agreed, but once they got rolling, she couldn't stop smiling.
The face-plant-on-brick-building photo made me laugh out loud, literally.

ZURB's CSS3 Shadow and Animation Experiments
Not only are the experiments technically and interactively well-done, but the layout of the page makes for a nicely formatted, self-contained tutorial.
You'll find other experiments over at the ZURB Playground, including this Konami Code-powered, raptorized jQuery plugin.

Canon PowerShot S95
Shoots 720p HD video and has a built-in effect that mimics tilt-shift. Clever idea, and obviously it targets those who wouldn't have the time or know-how to mimic tilt-shift in post production (e.g. Final Cut). Demo videos are included towards the end of the article.
Despeinada
A lovely new typeface by Ricardo Rousselot. Despeinada means "uncombed" in Spanish.
However, it's nearly 2011, and I find myself looking at type in an entirely new light: If a web font format (or Typekit-esque library addition) isn't included in the purchase, I'm finding I'm much more hesitant to hand over my money.
TikTok, LunaTik iPod Nano Watch Kits
Another runaway success on Kickstarter. $15,000 was requested, and nearly $100,000 has been raised.
The real beauty of Kickstarter — and the campaigns that give you finished product in exchange for a pledge — is that you know exactly how many orders you'll have on day one. I could see myself using it for my next letterpress poster.
