Two Weeks to the Mage-Born Anthology!

I'm so excited! Only two weeks until the Mage-Born Anthology goes on sale and it was SO MUCH FUN to write!!!

I finally got around to putting in on Goodreads, so if you'd like to add it to your "Want to Read" list, you can find it here!

The anthology contains short stories from each of Reshi's siblings' perspectives, so Reina, Eagan, Kila, Laki, Velyn and Cera each get their own chapter, as well as a story about the announcement of the Mage-Born Bounties, which kicks off the events of Sorcerous Rivalry. If you've been looking to learn more about the sorcerous siblings, or just more in general about the world of Zarapheth, you'll really enjoy this collection of short stories!

And if you're looking for them, you might find a few characters in my upcoming series on the Great Mage Hunt!

Happy Reading!!

Cover Reveal Today!!

Psst, hey. Wanna see something cool? The cover for the Mage-Born Anthology is currently being hosted on The Weatherwax Report so go over and take a look! This was a really fun cover to create as the book is a collection of stories rather than a typical novel, so my artist went with a more abstract design and I really love how it turned out!

Back of the book blurb:

Before the Mage-Born Bounties. . .

Before they became known as the dangerous mage-born bastards, Reshi’s brothers and sisters were young mages growing into their powers in a kingdom that forbade the use of magic. This collection of short stories follows Eagan, Kila, Velyn and the rest of Reshi’s magical siblings as they develop their magic and learn to survive during the period known as the Great Mage Hunt. From the political intrigue of noble houses, to the secrets of the Order of the Great Canvas, from the great seaside ports to the mystical lands of the fae, each of the mage-born come up with their own unique solutions to living in a world that will kill them if their secret is discovered.

This collection holds six thrilling stories of magic and adventure featuring Reshi’s siblings, plus two more stories set within the vast kingdom of Zarapheth!

I hope you are as excited for this book as I am!!!

Boskone 2019

I'm going to my first fantasy/sci fi convention this month! Boskone in Boston, MA takes place February 15-17 and I'm registered and excited to go! I'm not hosting a table this time, just going to check it out and hopefully meet and support other indie authors.

Instead of picking out my panels ahead of time, I think I'm just going to go with the flow and check out whatever seems fun and new once I'm there. I'm really excited to visit the art show--it's usually my favorite part of any convention. People who can art are crazy talented! And, of course, I'm looking forward to seeing all the creative and amazing costumes people will be wearing. Cons are always such a blast!

Any suggestions on what I should do at Boskone? Are you planning in going? Let me know in the comments!

Sorcerous Rivalry Audiobook--Coming Soon!

More exciting news, folks: I just signed a narrator to record the audiobook of Sorcerous Rivalry! So if you or someone you know prefers to listen to their books, Sorcerous Rivalry will soon be available on Audible. I hope to have both Mistress Mage and The Mage-Born Anthology recorded as well, so be on the look out for those!

And speaking of the Anthology, it has been sent to my editor and is getting the microscope-treatment as I write (Eep!). And, even more exciting--I have some cover art I can share with you all soon! The targeted release for the Anthology will be early March and hopefully I'll have it up for pre-order on Amazon for you guys shortly.

Happy Reading!

Mage-Born Anthology News

Some exciting things coming up for the Mage-Born Anthology! This upcoming week, it goes off the the editor for some tough love, but by the time it comes back, it'll have a wonderful, new shiny COVER!!! I've seen some of the preliminary work and so far it's a beauty. Can't wait to show it off!

Great Mage Hunt is nearing completion on its first draft; it's still a mess, so I'm not looking forward to its first round of edits. Perhaps I'll take a break and write something else? Maybe a short story at the end of Mistress Mage? Or perhaps start a new journey for Reshi and Kestral? Is there anything in specific you were hoping for? Tell me in the comments!

As always, Happy Reading!

Writing Breaks for Pets

I don't know how most indie authors write their novels, but for me, it is completely normal to be interrupted by cats walking across the keyboard and dogs thrusting their heads under my hands. And every now and then I have to deal with a cranky iguana throwing his food bowl against the glass of his terrarium. Pretty standard, as far as my day goes.

But this morning, my gorgeous little greyhound girl had a nasty sore on the inside of her leg and since she wouldn't tell me how she got it (and believe me, I asked) we had to make a last minute trip to the vet. Luckily, baby girl did not need stitches, but if it gets any worse, they want her to come back for x-rays. Right now it's just pain meds, antibiotics and warm water washes. And, if at all possible, rest. Which, of course, if the hard part because baby girl does NOT like to be told what to do. And if there are squirrels to chase, by golly, she is going to chase them! So, yeah, that's been my morning.

Hopefully this afternoon I can get back to working on the rough draft of Great Mage Hunt, which I can already tell is going to need a complete overhaul in the editing phase. But at least the feedback on the Anthology is good and soon that will be off to the editor, and then maybe a cover soon (Yay!!). I'm currently reading my way through the SPFBO finalists and right now I'm loving the sort of steampunk-esque elements of Symphony of the Wind by Stephen KcKinnon. If you like mystery and multiple character POVs and airships (really, who doesn't) you might want to give this one a try!

As always, Happy Reading!

Happy New Year, Readers!

I love the New Year! New reading goals on Goodreads, new books to add to the unattainable heights of TBR Mountain and, most importantly, new writing goals! On the docket for this year:

Publish the Mage-Born Short Story Anthology: Should be ready sometime in February, if all goes well!

Finish rough draft of the Great Mage Hunt: Perhaps by the end of January? This one's dragging a bit and needs a good deal of work.

Write and post a short story set at the end of Mistress Mage: Sometime soon! I promise!

First round of revisions and edits on Great Mage Hunt: Ideal date would be in March or maybe April.

Begin rough draft of next WIP: February or March. What will it be?? The second GMH? Or maybe a return to Reshi and Kestral? We'll all have to wait and see!

Any exciting reading or writing goals for 2019? Or are you waiting for some highly anticipated new release? Share them in the comments!

Merry Winter Solstice!

It's the weekend before Christmas and I know what you're all wondering: What do indie authors really want for Christmas?

While I'm sure most of us would love to ask Santa to write our book blurbs for us, here's a few (free!) ways to help out an indie author this year!

Write a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads--it doesn't have to be long, just something positive would be perfect!

Share indie books with your friends--If you have an ebook, Amazon allows you to lend it for free via the lending library!

Ask your local library to include specific indie books in their collection!

Talk about indie books! Word of mouth is one of the best ways to introduce people to the wonderful, diverse stories of talented indie authors.

Thank you to everyone who reads, shares and promotes indie books! You are the best gift I could ask for!!

SPFBO Finalists

If you haven't been following SPFBO4 (the Self-Publishing Fantasy Blog Off) you might not know that six of the ten blogs have chosen their finalists! These are some amazing self-published fantasy books that are absolutely beautiful and vetted by top reviewers, so if you were thinking of treating yourself to something special this holiday season, consider picking up one of the following:

Gods of Men by Barbara Kloss

Orconomics by J. Zachary Pike

We Ride the Storm by Devin Madson

Sowing by Angie Grigaliunas

Symphony of the Wind by Steven McKinnon

The Anointed by Keith Ward

I have read (and highly reccommend!!) the first three of these books on this list and based on the reviews from the bloggers, I am looking forward to reading the other three. Just four more finalists and we'll have the top ten indie books of this year's competition!

Happy Reading, All!
