Some escapist reading on this very hot morning. Gossip Girl in the FUTURE! Very fun book about a bunch of teens in far future New York. Lots of Black Mirror style gadgets and universal teen drama. #nowreading #bookstagram #150in2017 #mrmbookclub

Gotta love baby birthday parties: adorable cookies and day drinking. Added bonus of sharing a sugar high with several knee high humans. #delhicacies #dipsochronicles

Spring. A towering pile of to be read books, re-reading an old favourite instead (Manju Kapur's Difficult Daughters) and periodically doing eucalyptus infused steam inhalations for all the various ailments this time of the year brings to my poor lungs. #bookstagram #hayfever #mrmbookclub

Deadline done, spending the rest of my very quiet Holi reading in the last of the dappled spring sunshine. Book of choice is The Yard which is a dark cold setting, London right after Jack The Ripper was caught, a new force created at Scotland Yard and a new murderer to be found. Detective stories are my favourite. #nowreading #bookstagram #150in2017 #mrmbookclub

Hibiscus tree finally in bloom, ten months after we brought it home. First it looked sad and droopy, then it got attacked by aphids and then buds appeared only to whither where they stood. This is the first flower since we returned from Goa although the maid said there were plenty while we were gone. #terracegarden #hibiscus #spring

I'm a certain kind of Anglophile when it comes to reading, perhaps we can lay the blame firmly at Enid Blyton's door but give me a book about quiet British life in villages or even quiet British portraits in cities, not dating later than the '50s, and I'm hooked. Chronicles Of Fairacre is just that: fictional pen and ink sketches of a country school teacher's life. Miss Read is a pseudonym, but Dora Saint, the woman behind her, was exceedingly popular in her time, other people feeling just as I did about the coziness of her stories. #bookstagram #150in2017 #mrmbookclub #nowreading

Thanks to ordering a bunch of books, borrowing two from a friend AND a package from my editor at Harper Collins, my TBR pile is huge and tasty. #nowreading this Pakistani political novel, Nobody Killed Her by Sabyn Javeri is about the lives of two women who are wrapped together even though each resists. Fluid storytelling, fast paced narrative, I'm hooked. #150in2017 #bookstagram #mrmbookclub

A teacher friend brought me a copy of Split to sign for one of her students. The student sent me this little note. So lovely to see such a well handled copy, a sign of a book being thumbed through several times. This is why I write. #splitthebook #theauthorlife
