Off to Bangkok tonight! I realised I never posted a picture of self as an intrepid backpacker. While resorts are all very luxurious and comfortable, there's an undeniable charm to carrying your possessions on your back like a snail as you move from place to place. Glad also to have discovered backpacking only in my thirties so the occasional indulgence is well within my means. Today we moved from our fancy ish hotel to a homestay because SOMEONE likes to travel by the seat of their pants and the hotel wound up being full online. However that SOMEONE turned out to be right (sigh), this homestay is on the river and gorgeous. Sitting on a deck chair, reading my book, drinking iced coffee watching the sun set over this fish pond and the river beyond. Tomorrow, we're driving up to Hue by ourselves, apparently it's a gorgeous drive, through hills and a national park. Took the scooter to a random little village recommended by a guy in the bar next door to the hotel, an interaction that happened primarily through sign language so I was quite pleased with our drive. Pictures of bridges coming up, meanwhile here I am at a pit stop, waiting for my coca cola, posing for the perfect Instagram moment. Hoi An greetings! Here we are in the old town, the most picturesque place we have been to so far. Here for a few days so really getting into the spirit of things: which in my case translates into getting a dress AND shoes made because I can. Very meaty dinner at this very famous DIY barbecue place, Vietnamese style of course. They give you a plate of marinated meat, and a little clay stove, plus tongs and then you figure it out yourself. Hello from Nha Trang, a nice beach town, not super exciting but we were so tired we decided to stay an extra night and rent a scooter to get around. Drove up a coastal road, wound up at a little seafood restaurant with no English translation on the menu so we pointed and signed and hopefully something will appear that I can eat.
