Author Interview with Linda’s Book Bag

Recently, I had the honor and privilege of taking part in Linda’s Book Bag “Staying in” interview for my novel, Spooning Leads to Forking: A Gay Teen Romance Story.

I had so much fun interviewing with Linda and loved being able to give a little more insight into this book that was the product of love, insanity, and pure serendipity. It was once the single shining point during a time in my life when I was completely directionless and the future looked dark and bleak, and now it’s proof that I...

Discussion: Review Requests – do’s & don’t’s

Fantastic advice for any authors looking to request reviews!

discussionI was ready to post the following discussion days ago and then some things happened and I felt like I was forced to rewrite it. Okay, so that sounds way more dramatic than it is…

Anyway, thing is I filled out this form to be added to the Indie Book Reviewers List. I didn’t think I’d get that many requests, unknown blog and all. But I got them and don’t get me wrong, it is flattering! So far so good. Because of ‘all’ the requests I...

Listen to People Smarter than Yourself

The idea that you have to be the best and know everything about any given subject is not only toxic but unrealistic. The most successful people in the world surround themselves with experts in their particular field rather than spreading themselves thin and attempting to take on everything on their own. You can tell a measure of a person by the people they hang out with. By creating a team of individuals who challenge and lift you up, you can only become better yourself.

Or as Warren Buffet...

Be willing to see failure as feedback.

I can’t tell you how long it took me to break through the mindset that I must succeed on the first try for anything I attempt or else I must self-flagellate and wallow in the aftermath of my failure. This mindset is not only unrealistic but also harmful. The fear of failure can prevent us from moving forward and learning from our mistakes to become better and better. It’s so easy to slip into the pattern of comfort and familiarity, which is why so many people stick with the same job or relati...

How to Change the Way You See Yourself

Rock Thomas has such a powerful message! For years, I was stuck in a loop of negative thoughts and self-doubt, which is an incredibly difficult cycle to break. I was once told, “If you wouldn’t say it to your best friend, why would you say it to yourself?”

If you want to change your life, you first have to change what you tell yourself. If you’re constantly thinking, “I’m stupid/ugly/fat/awful and no one will ever take a chance on me,” then you’re right. That becomes your reality and what yo...

Author Interview – B. A. Smith

Name

B. A. Smith

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

I’ve been writing for about fifteen years and have posted my work in online writing communities such as fanfiction.net, fictionpress.com, and Archive of Our Own. I have a passion for unconventional romances not usually portrayed in mainstream media and I tend to be ultra-realistic and detail-oriented in my writing. I have no reservations about jumping headfirst into awkward or uncomfortable subject matters.

I’ve wri...

On My Bookshelf: The Only Grammar Book You’ll Ever Need

I cannot stress how important it is as a writer that you never stop reading or seeking to improve yourself. There are only so many ideas you can come up with on your own, and it’s okay for you to look for outside sources of inspiration. Just do a bit of Google searching to get the basic gist of a concept or idea and bullshit the rest. I often write about topics I know nothing about, but I don’t let that stop me from writing million-word novels about those very same topics anyway.

My Favorite Inspirational Quotes

I’m no stranger to self-doubt and procrastination. So, to keep myself on track, here are some of my favorite quotes from some of my favorite motivational people:

“The greatest source of happiness is the ability to be grateful at all times.” ― Zig Ziglar

“It isn’t what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.” ― Dale Carnegie

“In the real world, the smartest people are people who make mistakes and learn. In s...
