On My Bookshelf: A Sound of Thunder

A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a hunter named Eckels who pays $10,000 to travel with Time Safari, a time machine company that takes hunters back to the time of dinosaurs and allows them to hunt Tyrannosaurus Rex. In this story, Mr. Bradbury explores the perils of time travel, one of which is that something as insignificant as a blade of grass, a mouse, or an insect dying before its time can have cataclysmic effects on the future.

This is a story I read only once in...

How to Refer to Characters in a Story

Even after writing over a million words in story form, I still suffer the occasional (okay, more than occasional) brainfart and forget the basic rules of writing. Today’s brainfart was inspired by the use of a character’s name vs she/it/they pronouns. I worry about being too monotonous with all the “he said, she said” in a story, but when your main characters thrive on witty banter, I believe it’s better to err on the side of caution than confuse readers (or myself) on who’s saying what.

SLTF Pulled from Amazon!!! Too Spicy?

Recently, I decided to update the cover to my book, Spooning Leads to Forking. After compiling all of your WONDERFUL feedback and votes, I decided on the following cover:

However, immediately after updating my cover, Amazon decided to remove my book entirely, citing “copyright content.” I purchased the license to the stock photo and designed the cover in Canva, a free design website with a good reputation. I received no notice and didn’t discover the issue until I logged into my KDP dashboar...

What To Do About Bad Reviews

As per usual, I got lost in a volley of Google searches yesterday and one subject that caught my attention was if authors should respond to reviews or not. Previously, all of my stories have been posted for free in writing forums and communities, and I’ve always made an effort to reply to each review. Spooning Leads to Forking – BONUS CONTENT!

I just submitted the completed audiobook for Spooning Leads to Forking for review, and if it passes quality it should be available through Audible and iTunes within the next 2 weeks!!!

After several readers mentioned the abrupt transition between chapters 2 and 3, I went back and filled in the gap with an additional scene that I will be updating in the paperback and ebook manuscripts. For those of you with first edition copies, I’ll go ahead and post the scene below so you’re not missing out!...
