A Peek into the Brunch at TranquiliT Trunk Show

Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There’s no how-to road map to style. It’s about self expression and, above all, attitude.—Iris Apfel

Above are shots from Saturday’s Brunch at TranquiliT Trunk Show held in my new office. In a way, this event was an Open House, Trunk Show, and Pigs & Pugs Project fundraiser all in one!

When I began announcing it as such, Tim was like “choose one!” similar to his response to my tendency to over-accessorize. So, of course, I chose all three and only announced it as one.

Shortly after noon, we welcomed longtime and new friends into the space to nosh on homemade vegan blueberry muffins and pumpkin scones, sip mimosas, and shop TranquiliT’s fall collection.

In the process, we raised $2200 for Pigs & Pugs Project (fundraiser), I was able to share my space with others (Open House), and we hosted the first TranquiliT event in a few years (trunk show).

Before our guests arrived, I shot a brief 3-minute Facebook Live to show off the sweet pop-up boutique we’d created.

The icing on the cake was having such great help! Thursday through Sunday Tim helped me haul everything to and from the office. On Friday Carol spent the afternoon helping me tag and hang the clothing plus label all the cute chalkboards while we listened to Nina Simone. On Saturday Joanna, Patricia, Carol, and our seamstress Renee helped answer questions, alter clothing, ring people up, and were such gracious hosts.

Whew, it takes a village!

A BIG thank you to everyone who came out to the event AND, in turn, the work of Pigs & Pugs Project. Your support helps pig sanctuaries and pug rescues in need, our local seamstress, and this small, artisanal pet project I’ve had since 2002.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Bisous. x

To Daybook or Not to Daybook?

A pink planner, lifestyle organizer, and wellness guide all-in-one. This is the Tranquility du Jour Daybook story.

After months of dreaming, design, research, and edits, on November 11, 2012  I announced its release. The seed for this project was planted by an email from a blog reader/friend and took sprout with the $100 donation from the 2012 World Domination Summit.

Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 12.08.30 PM

For the past many months I’ve been debating whether to produce a 7.0 version and, after much inner reflection, I’ve decided not to create one this year.

Honestly, I wouldn’t change much from 6.0 (other than that darn typo that shall not be named) and right now I lack the necessary creative space that designing, reviewing, editing, packing, and shipping these little gems entail.

My biggest fear of not producing a new version was leaving Daybook supporters without a tranquility-filled option for planning.

To alleviate this concern, we’re offering ALL six editions of the Daybook and one edition of the Playbook as PDFs for you to print, cut, and assemble in a way that fits your needs best. And below are some ideas on how to DIY your planner!

Here’s a video by Daybook connoisseur Barbara who has personalized and assembled hers over the past six years.

Here’s a blog post by Darca who also created her own version.

While I know this isn’t the same as receiving a completed product in a pink envelope via snail mail, I hope this will allow you to continue using what you most love about the Daybook and enjoy a dose of tranquility, organization, and love in your every day!

I’m honored to know that this labor of love touched the hands of creative women around the globe.

Thank you also for understanding as I ponder if this project may have run its course or if I simply need a small break from producing it.

So to Daybook or not, that, my dear friends, is the question. Bisous. x

Fall Delights

Welcome to fall, the most amazing time of the year.

I slept with windows open last night and woke up to the sound of  sprinkling rain and a nice chill in the air which felt like the perfect launch into this new season.

2. Read poetry.
3. Go to bed early.
4. Sip French wine.
5. Watch leaves fall.
6. Visit a pumpkin patch.
7. Plant bulbs.

11. Bake kale chips.
12. Build a fire and listen to it crackle.
13. Pen your fall wishes.
14. Celebrate a success.
15. Write a love note.
16. Let go of something you’re clinging to.
17. Embrace a loved one and hold for ten breaths.

August in Review

I’m restless. Things are calling me away. My hair is being pulled by the stars again.―Anaïs Nin

Month in Review

I’m staring at my computer while listening to a French cafe playlist and the synchronized snoring of pugs. This Month in Review is a bit late. Okay, quite late. I almost decided to skip it, but instead thought spending my Friday night on it would feel better. So here I am, pondering August mid-September.

Last month’s highlights included a trip to NYC and the cherry on top was the meetup, taking lots of ballet, enjoying a weekend jaunt to West Virginia, releasing the self-care module of Year of Tranquility, brunch and tea dates with girlfriends, setting up my new office, hosting a childhood friend in DC for a night, snuggling with the pups, dreaming up TranquiliT’s fall designs (video from today’s shoot), and collaborating with therapy and mentoring clients.

While in NYC I hit Strand (of course) and picked up a 500-page biography on Anaïs Nin. When looking for a quote to embody my current mood, hers above felt like the perfect fit.

As mentioned in last month’s review, I’m craving a brief escape once I get through the events over the next six weeks. November and December are quiet other than the holidays, so I’ve got my eye on them for a getaway. Where? To be determined. The tugs at my hair are getting stronger and stronger.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend ahead with an opportunity to listen to those things that are calling. Bisous. x
