Ideas

I get asked sometimes where I get my ideas from, and I don’t think I’m different from any other writer in how they enter my brain, but I’ll give a few examples here. And if any authors read this and think, “Yeah, that sounds about right,” feel free to back me up on how weird it can be at times, getting these random ideas inserted into your brain (often against your will because you’re driving and can’t do anything about it, or in the shower where you don’t have a pen handy).

First, I’ll start w...

One POV

If you received two blog emails from me this morning, please disregard the one called “Ideas.” My website glitched and sent out a drafted blog for next week instead. The blog called “One POV” is the blog for this week. Sorry for the double emails and the confusion.

Writing from one POV isn’t something I do very often. I’ve done it only once in a published book and once in an unpublished one (you’ll get to read that one when it comes out). Usually, I write from the perspectives of both main charac...

Coming Soon: Ascending

Ascending, the first book in the Royalty Series, is now available for pre-order.

This year started off with me wrapping up the Holiday Series with the What Happened After Finale, but my next several novels will all have a little bit of something different, starting with Future Wife, which involved time travel and a little sci-fi. Now, royals are up next, and book 1 starts us off.

This book is about a Princess who wasn’t meant to be Queen, which is one of the themes throughout these books.

Series vs Stand-alones

Let’s be honest, I’m more known for my series than I am for my stand-alone books. At this point, I have 7 series published (Chicago, San Francisco, Tahoe, Boston, Celebrities, Sports, Holiday), 8th is coming out this year (Royalty), and most of those are connected by strong friend groups.

I didn’t set out to write series, as you know if you’ve read any of my other blogs or newsletters. It just sort of happened, and then it kept happening, but people seemed to enjoy them, and my series are alway...

Behind-the-Scenes: Holiday Series Characters

When I first outlined the Holiday Series, I came up with character names and their general backstory of friendship. I knew they’d all meet their future loves at or around a holiday, and that all books would take place in one year. That was it.

Then, I got to work outlining each book individually with a paragraph. As I came up with the stories, I knew I wanted Weston to be up first. She’s the calm, somewhat serious one in the group, who is generally level-headed, and I thought having her fall fo...

A day in the life...

I know a few people have asked about my writing process over the years, but I think before I get into that, I’ll give you a glimpse in the life of an indie writer with a day job. I won’t go into extreme detail but hit the high notes for you.

First, I do have a job outside of writing. Most people probably know that my wife runs Pyland Publishing, which actually publishes my books, and she takes care of the business side of things that I’m not a big fan of, so I work another job. It’s a fairly ty...

New Release: Future Wife

Future Wife is OUT NOW!

My first foray into time travel and a little into science fiction is available in all formats (e-book, audiobook, paperback, and hardcover) today!

Blair Baker, who also narrated The Show Must Go On for me, is the narrator for Future Wife, and I’m excited for you all to read a book that came to me in a dream. I woke up one morning and had a very clear vision of a woman approaching another woman at a case with collectible coins inside, and she told the woman holding a c...

Picking Out a Book

Since I tend not to stick to a ‘standard Nicole Pyland novel’ – meaning, you might not know what you’ll get from me next because I don’t always write the same tropes, plots, genres, etc. – I tried to make it easier for you to pick out one of my books based on what you might be interested in or what mood you’re in at that time.

On my site, each book (or series) has a page, and on each book’s page, you’ll find fun things like character avatars, playlists/soundtracks, and you’ll also find things s...
