San Francisco to Eureka!
After a long night of being elbowed by my little brother on our itty bitty bed, we all got up, got coffee, donuts, then hit the road. For anyone who has an opportunity to stay at a Parc 55 Hilton—take it! It’s a great, contemporary, very enjoyable place to stay.
And for anyone who has an opportunity to visit San Francisco—TAKE IT! If you like the raw downtown feel, bustling sidewalks and old buildings drenched with character, you’ll love it. The place was so alive, thriving, and I didn’t want to leave.

We crossed the Golden Gate Bride (a tremendous sight), then passed through wine country (endless acres of fields, horses, and grape farms), then entered the tight bending roads of the mountains. Oh boy, driving through those hills definitely left my gills green, but I somehow made it the whole 5 hours without losing my donut.
So, Eureka is interesting. Quite the opposite of San Francisco. Has a very small-town type of vibe. Has lots of small, quaint, cozy homes and the streets are very quiet. What stands out here the most though is definitely the nature; specifically, the Redwood Forest. We took a walk through there, picked some berries and ate some leaves. As it turns out, the Redwood forest was where they filmed one of the Star Wars movies!!! I could attempt a description but I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Now, I’ve saved the best for last. That being, where I slept. I received the honor of sleeping in the camper out back. Mainly because nobody else wanted it—but I was also dying for it. I knew it’d be the perfect place to write. And as I sit here, a cup of coffee before me as I write, I was not wrong.
[image error] [image error] [image error] [image error]
This trip has been beyond amazing. I don’t want it to end. One night I’m sleeping on the 30th floor of a Hilton hotel, and the next, I’m sleeping in a camper with a pile of blankets on top of me as temperatures descend to the low 50’s. Coming from 100 degree heat in Texas, 50 is freezing to me.
My grandparents and uncles out here are very outdoorsy people, so we’ll be taking lots more hikes over the four more days we’re here. I’ll do a few more posts to further introduce you to this magical town that is Eureka.

Laguna Beach to San Francisco!
Since I started blogging a year ago, I’ve also wanted to start a travel blog. Sadly, I’m 24, have a full-time job, and am also borderline broke. So… I don’t think a travel blog is coming anytime soon.
However!!!! I do still get to take occasional vacations, and for this summer’s trip, I’ve headed west to the beautiful lands of California.
Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up… You’re about to read my very first travel blog post.
Two days ago, I got a ride to the DFW airport via a cute girl from Lyft, and I then boarded flight aa2613 to John Wayne (Gacy) airport in Orange County. Surprisingly enough, I was able to get a flight at a reasonable hour and without stops!!! Given my luck with the flight, I was honestly expecting something disastrous to take place… but it did not. Obviously.
If you’ve never been to Laguna Niguel, then I’d definitely recommend putting it on your list of places to visit. For me, whenever I think of the perfect place to live, I instinctively see postcard images of Laguna. I see the towering palm trees stretching along the streets; I see water from sprinklers running over onto the sidewalks of expansive suburban neighborhoods… Most importantly though, I see the sandy shores and crashing waves of the popular Laguna Beach. The only downside of Laguna, and California in general, is that everything is so damn expensive. Everywhere you go there’s Mercedes and million dollar homes with pools in the back. Ah, well, I can dream, can’t I?
This morning, me, my mom, dad, and little brother hit the road and embarked upon a seven hour drive up the coast to San Francisco!!!

I’m one of those weird people who loves the rural as well as urban lifestyles. But my heart is in the city. I’ve always loved New York, New York, but the more I visit it, the more it becomes too much for me to handle. I’m not sure I could ever see myself living there. Though a grand and incomparable experience, I fear prolonged exposure may drive me to madness. If only there was a way to turn it all down a bit.
Which brings me to where I am now. We’ve booked a room on the 30th floor at the Parc 55 Hilton hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

[image error]It looks like my dad is dead here, but he’s not.

Take New York, turn down the dial a few notches, and you have… (drum roll please) San Francisco! Bustling people fill the sidewalks but they don’t crowd. The streets are a bit tighter but still flowing–and on those streets, cars and bikes actually move at a pace faster than 2.5 mph. There’s a lot less congestion, it’s easier to breathe, and it’s not near as noisy as the good ol big apple. From my room, I hear seldom honks and sirens as I watch the hazy pink sky fade behind the glistening ocean water. Really, this is my idea of perfection. Well—after I dial room service, that is.
[image error] [image error] [image error]
Tomorrow, we hop back on the road to continue North for six more hours till we reach Eureka! I’ve never been there either, but I’ve heard amazing things, especially about the Red Forest. Apparently I’ll be sleeping in either a camper or a shed? I’m not sure but both sound exciting, and I can’t wait. I’ll be sure to take plenty of pictures and make another post. I’m having the time of my life!!!!
[image error] [image error]
Until then, take care, everybody! Goodnight, good morning, talk soon.
