2018 Movie #55: The Meg

True story: the Ho and I have been looking forward to seeing this movie ever since the first trailer came out for it in the early parts of this year. We love summer popcorn movies. We love sharks, and we love dinosaurs, thus we love megalodons. HOW COULD IT NOT BE AMAZING?

Lots of ways, it turns out.

THE BLURB:

A massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. With time running out, rescue diver Jonas Taylor must s...

Day 1,749: Quicker

Doing a quick entry tonight because it’s sleepy time.

I wrote a crap-ton of movie reviews today, trying to catch up on that. I have a good dozen more to do, give or take, so I’ll try and break those up over the week. Maybe. We’ll see. It’s just another thing on the list to do.

I work tomorrow. I’m nervous about it, just because writing was hard last week. But, I’m resolved. Tomorrow, writing WILL happen. And then next day, and then for the rest of the week, too. The only way I finish this boo...

Day 1,748: Dem Pups

I am struck this evening by how perfect dem pups are. Cuz they are PERFECT. So sweet. So snuggly. So into treats.

We went out tonight to a birthday part in Hollywood, Los Feliz to be precise, and it was just about the most hollywood-y party we’d ever been to. For reals. There was a shuttle to pick us up, a pink carpet for us to walk, cocktails waiting at the door, and then three separate areas (no! Four, if you counted inside the house) to hang out and drink. Two food buffets…it was all out,...

Day 1,747: An odd week…

This was…an odd week.

I don’t feel like I was a rock star this week. Not like I felt the previous two. This week was a lot less of the “I can fucking do this” and a lot more of the “jfc, am I ever going to crack this story. Which is to say, it was a dramatic week of a lot of ups and downs. And there were definitely ups. In fact, I would say the week had far more ups than it did the downs.

I figured out some MAJOR stuff with my book, but the biggest win of all was actually getting excited for...

Day 1,746: Outlining and Golf

I had an excellent day outlining today. Some really, really good ideas both for adjustments to make on what I’ve already written, and ideas on finishing this bad boy up. I’m essentially “losing” a week here by doing this outlining stuff, but it was necessary. So very, very necessary. It’s actually getting to the point where I’m itching to write again, to write the rest…and that’s the money spot, the pot of gold.

So, that was wonderful. I felt really inspired. It’s been a while on this book, o...

Day 1,745: Tennissssssss

Omg. What a busy day!

I got a toooonnn of stuff done today. Little bit of the writing, some household chores, some email stuff–which is annoying, btw; my email list provider is on the fritz again and I think it’s time to move along, ughhhhh–and then the best part: tennis.

It’s literally been a couple years since I last played tennis. So long that the grip I got, which was almost brand new at the time, is now old enough to be disintegrating in my hands. Yikes.

Two years, I think? Something lik...

Day 1,744: Outlining

I spent the day outlining today, and I accomplished my goal, which was to get all the way through to the end. I had some good new ideas…the story is still fuzzy in parts, which I’ll continue working on tomorrow, but it IS getting there. I do, at the very least, have a solution to my current predicament that ran me aground

Day 1,743: Brainstorming and the Wall

Ran aground with the story again. There’s this section from the end of last week that just wasn’t working, and it was streessssinnnggg me the frack out. Sometimes the bits that aren’t working are minor, and I can just write a note and move one. But sometimes they’re major enough that I can’t keep moving forward.

I literally don’t know what I’m writing any more, and if I push forward, I’m basically guaranteeing that everything I wrote from that point forward, at least with those characters, wi...

Day 1,742: Getting There

Liz and I watched It tonight and…it was not what I was expecting. At least as a whole. I…really liked it. A lot. I was in. I’m in on the next movie. Can’t wait to see it.

Now, I didn’t think It was a perfect movie. It wasn’t mind-blowing or anything. But, it was unlike any other horror movie I’ve ever seen, in that it was surprisingly…wholesome? And sweet? Liz said it best, it was like if the Goonies were rated R. And that’s just something I’m not sure I’ve seen before, at least in the modern...

Day 1,741: Planning Dayze

I had a day of planning today. Awhile ago, I kinda got into this task organization system dubbed “GTD” by the biz community, short for Getting Things Done. This is back when I was really struggling to get words on the page, and I realized that part of that problem was my anxiety, and specifically anxiety about all the tasks I needed to complete each day.

I didn’t realize at the time that those tasks weren’t actually the source of my anxiety, they were simply a distraction that it was driving...
