One Book To $10K

Happy new year!

2022 was a significant year for me as an author, a stepping-stone year. I learned some things that some of you may find interesting and hopefully helpful. Most notably:

My co-writer and I published a first-in-series at the very end of 2021, and we saw that book cross the $10,000 threshold in sales on its own, even though book 2 didn’t come out until the very end (November) of 2022—almost exactly a YEAR later.

That’s 1 book to 10k.

Now that book 2 is finally out (with ...

Day 3,351: Trance

I got to play a little DJ set tonight. I had planned to actually record a 55-minute set for use while I write, but the little digital recorder we use was actually full on its memory card. Oops. But, that ended up being just fine, because I kind of experimented instead. Which I needed to. What I’d put together was not going to make the best set. It needed some feeling out, other tracks, different orders. So, in that regard it was really quite perfect.

Work was great today! I was a little tired...

Day 3,350: 2OT

Quick one tonight so I can read before it gets tooo late. But…I woke up on time! I did some outlining! I finished up the last little bits of Netflix work that I had to make up because I stumbled going into my last few days before the holiday break. I was just burned out, man. So, I promised myself I’d make that time up over the break…and I did. Proud of myself.

I’m set up for success tomorrow.

I really needed this break. Man. So glad I had it. Now: back to work.

Night.

Day 3,349: Full Whack

First thought of the new year: it’s really fun to learn Brit turns of phrase, particularly those used commonly at the turn of the century/millennia, by watching Grand Designs.

Yes, we are still obsessed. It’s our show around this time of year.

I started day 1 of the pushups and sit-ups today. Going to attempt again to go all the way through the year with them, and then keep them up. More an excuse to get back into the swing of it. It’s a mindset, not a goal. I’ve also decided that I’m goin...

Day 3,348: Happy New Year!

We Grand Designed it into the new year.

Pretty sure we were watching the show this time last year. We were rolling up our sleeves and prepping the house for the move, to be honest. Painting. Cleaning. Boxing. Updating fixtures. It was…so much work.

This year we got to kinda just enjoy our house, which is amazing. Like, truly amazing. We sat on our couch with the heat on (set low, since we kinda both like it cool, even in the winter time…but not THAT cool), snuggled up with snacks and the p...

Day 3,347: Organized

I’m getting organized, y’all. Whew. FINALLY.

My desk is clean. It’s been…a long, loooonnngggggg time since that was last true. It’s been a YEAR, man. Busy, busy, busy. I’m still recovering from the move. But, I am recovering. Finally. Shit is getting ticked off the list, and I haven’t piled the plate high with replacement stuff yet. YET. I’m sure I will, particularly once I start outlining this next book in earnest.

You know what? I’m fighting resistance in terms of writing the next book, ...

Day 3,346: Mister Grand Designs

Coco be FIGHTING taking her meds lately. Ugh. She’s so smart. She figures out that we’re putting pills inside her meatballs and she doesn’t want to eat them. Or, rather, she eats the meatball parts, and spits out the pills. Then we have to shove them down her throat.

She’s actually doing great. Very sweet. Very happy. Very silly. She’s such a good dog.

Nugget came to visit me while I was closing down my office tonight. Wanted a snack. Wanted to watch me from just outside my door. She comes...

Day 3,345: Grand Designs Cal

A momentous day. For a couple reasons.

Gonna keep it to that, I think. More later.

Right now…snuggling in bed with my kindle, gonna read for a bit, and then wake up tomorrow and smash through our finances. Night!

Day 3,344: Justice

Solid low key day today.

We did our Costco run. Picked up some letters delivered to our old address. Walked the pups around the old neighborhood. Watched the rest of the Warriors game that I missed on Christmas, and then watched them beat the Hornets tonight. Did client work.

Now…sleep.

Night night!

Day 3,343: Onion

We watched Glass Onion tonight as a fam. I’d actually seen it for work, but not really; pulling clips, watching most of it at double speed for efficiency’s sake. I haven’t added any of the material I watch for work onto my movie list for the year, so it was cool to just sit and watch it from beginning to end and put it on the list.

I love that the “master detective” genre is having a little moment. It’s such an old school genre. Very charming.

Movie itself isn’t great. It’s solid, but not ...
