So darn relaxed, I'm cranky!

I love my weekends.  My little two-day vacations where I spend time with Guy and bake stuff or play in the dirt if it's warm are much needed breaks to recharge and reconnect with reality.  I guard them jealously.  But three weeks away from my keyboard with only four days work sandwiched in there has left me overfull with ideas and energy, so much so that I'm quite honestly, a bit cranky.  If I don't put in some major work today, I will be surprised.

So, what did I accomplish in my "time...

Happy New Year! (what do you resolve?)

I'll be taking a break tomorrow from the drama box, so I'll say it today.  Happy New Year!  My wish is for you and those you love health and happiness in the new year.

I don't make resolutions, but I will try to be more aware of my attitude, and I will make an effort to go out of my way to be kind to strangers.  Just for the hell of it.  -grin-

Slow but steady

Busy day planned today.  I'm chunking through rough draft, making good progress.  I want this done by the second week in January, which is–OMGosh–like two weeks now, so I can spend a nice bit of time on the Madison editorial rewrite before that is due.  I'm really likeing what's happening in this one.  A part of me is saying the book is too introspective, not enough action.  But then I look at who's there with her, and it's like, "Yeah.  This is good."  (snerk)  Time will tell.

Now, if I can...

People ask me where I get my ideas

I got one last night.  Don't know where I'm going to use it, but it's tucked away.  It might show up as an entire book, or it might show up as a tiny aside thought that takes one sentence but colors an entire plot issue, but it's there, and it will stay until I explore it to the depths of my curiosity.

See, Guy took me out to eat last night, and because it was busy, they were seating people by the secondary entrance.  I questioned it because it was bitterly cold and the draft from the main...

And the ideas just keep coming.

I think I remember now why I keep such a busy work schedule.  If I'm not actively working on something, the ideas pile up behind themselves until there's a mishmash of thoughts, concepts, characters, and ideas that demand their fair share of my day.  The sad thing is that they will all have to wait.  Years maybe.  Talk about the frustrated writer.

In any case I'm back to work today, trying to cram five days into four, which should be easy after the self-imposed "fasting" this last week.  I...

Merry Merry!

I'll be traveling home today, and the weather looks good for air flight.  I had a great time with extended family, but I'm ready to be home.  What am I looking forward to most besides my own bed?  Our yearly viewing of The Christmas Story, yes, the one with the leg lamp.  (laugh)

I'm going to take a few days off for the Christmas break, so I'm going to leave you with a hearty wish from Guy, Thing One, Thing, Two, the puppies, and myself for a safe, serene holiday for you and yours.  The days...

Since you asked . . .

Here's my family recipe for Chess Cakes, which are not really cakes at all, but little sugar bomb tarts.  I only make these around the holiday season because they are kind of tedious and high in bad stuff, but they are probably one of my favorite things to eat.

Shells: one standard pie crust recipe.  I usually wad the crust up into a cylinder, then cut discs off the log and roll them out one by one, forming them over a water glass before dropping them into well-greased cupcake tins.  If you...

Monday!

Er, sorry about the exclamation points, but I'm glad it's Monday.  I had an interesting weekend with family/snow/airtraffic, and though I won't be writing today, you can be sure the writer in me is not shutting up, and I'm seeing ghosts of new books _everywhere._    The frustration of not being able to work (play) with these new characters (toys) is driving me slightly nuts.  But it's a good thing, and the steem I'm building up now will carry me through the hard-to-write spots.

Made chess...

Snow? Yes. Ice? Errrg.

We might get snow by the end of today, but it's more likely going to be a nasty mix of ice and rain.  And that's what you get when you wish for snow in the Carolinas.    It's going to be around long enough to make my travel today miserable, and then melt.  However, there is a second chance on Thursday to get another batch, and that would be uber nice, seeing as I won't have to be in it.  Not like today.  Sigh.

I hope to get some baking in this weekend/next week.  Yesterday it was bread from...
