Aiden huffed. “Way to go. I’m still hungry.”

“You’re always fucking hungry,” Bentley growled.

“Bottomless pit,” I added, looking at the dishes. There were a lot of them.

“I had nothing to do with the situation, and I still got in trouble. Thanks, Maddox,” Bentley snapped.

“Happy to have included you in the debacle.”

“Shut up, both of you.” Aiden shook his head, reaching for the platter of pancakes. “I’m eating first, then cleaning.”

I looked at my half-eaten plate. “Good idea. Maybe we should cover the girls’ plates, and they can warm them or something.”

Aiden looked over his shoulder. “Do you think they’re fighting?”

“Talking,” Bentley said. “They talk.” He sighed. “They talk a lot.”

“I hope Cami is okay,” Aiden said with a groan. “If I have to beat you for this, Mad Dog, I will—but I’ll try to be gentle.”

“Whatever,” I snorted. “I can take you, big man.”

“You think so? I could snap you like a twig.”

“I’ll throw a couple of lemon Danish at you and run. You’ll be so busy trying to catch them, I’ll be fine.”

He frowned and started to laugh. “That would work.”

We all chuckled. Aiden started eating, and with a shrug, I joined him. The food was too good to waste. When we were done, I laid down my fork.

“I didn’t mean to start anything. I just wanted it out there before Dee changed her mind.”

“What do you mean?”

I wiped my mouth. “Let’s say Dee isn’t as far into this relationship as I am and leave it at that. I’m trying to be patient.” I slouched in my chair. “I need you two to be supportive.”

Bentley rested his elbows on the table, studying me. “Are you serious about this relationship?”

“As a heart attack.”

“And Dee is…”

“Skittish, to say the least.”

“Okay.”

Aiden frowned. “Are you forcing her into something? As her brother-in-law, I think I need to stop you.”

“You really think I could force Dee into anything? All I’ve done is move us along a bit. Once she is comfortable with us being a couple, we’ll go from there.”

“Do you ever do anything like a normal person?” Aiden huffed.

“Like you, you mean? Push the woman I love away, then turn around and marry her on a whim? Yeah, so normal.”

Aiden and Bentley gaped at me, making me realize what I had said.

“You love her? I thought you didn’t believe in love.”

I shifted in my chair. “Well, I’d never met Dee.”

Bentley smiled. “Maddox, that’s great. I’m happy for you.”

“Don’t be too happy yet. I have to convince the lady.”

“You will.”

Aiden grunted. “You hurt her, I will hurt you. She’s my family.”

I met his gaze, serious. “If I hurt her, I’ll let you. She’s everything to me.”

His eyes softened in understanding. “I hear you.”

We heard the sound of footsteps, and we all stood, grabbing plates.

“Enough sharing. If we aren’t busy when they get down here, we’ll all be in shit,” I ordered.

Bentley winked as I grabbed a platter.

“Welcome to couple-hood.”

Release Blitz: Hard Pressed by Kate Canterbary

She’s town sweetheart…with a side of sass.

He’s the new sheriff…and he has some disorderly conduct in mind.

Title: Hard Pressed

Author: Kate Canterbary

Release Date: June 29, 2018
[image error]

Dear Jackson,

I’m leaving you this note because I know you’re very busy and I don’t want to waste the town sheriff’s time. Lord knows I’ve already wasted enough of it.

Thank you for taking me home last night and…everything else. I made you a basket of wild blueberry muffins for your trouble. That seemed like the appropriate baked good for getting naked in your living room.

I wasn’t myself last night. I didn’t mean to kiss you or fondle your backside or ask all those intimate questions. Thank you for pretending to enjoy it.

It was very noble of you to sleep on the couch while I was starfished on your bed. I couldn’t help but notice it’s quite large. The bed, that is. I swear, I didn’t notice anything else when I let myself out this morning.

As you know, Talbott’s Cove is a ridiculously small town and there’s no chance we can avoid each other. Not that I’d want to avoid you, of course, but I’m not sure I can look at you without thinking of the forty different ways I made a fool of myself.

Instead of avoidance, let’s try to be friends. We’ll forget all about last night…if that’s what you want.

Please burn this note after you read it—

Annette

p.s. I whipped up some cinnamon buns, too. Please enjoy them. I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t get buns out of my mind today.

Chapter One

Jackson

For five minutes every morning, my life was pure agony.

On most days, I went out of my way to avoid her. I scheduled myself for early patrols or wellness checks on some of my elderly residents. Anything to get out of the station. It was a necessity. I couldn’t see to the public safety of this town with my dick harder than a nightstick.

I knew because I’d tried. The squad was too small for briefings from behind a podium. When it came to positioning a clipboard or the sheriff’s standard-issue campaign hat over my crotch, I could only hold that pose for a few minutes.

Oh, I’d tried to hide it but the only solution was staying away from the station and the sweetheart of Talbott’s Cove, Annette Cortassi. The bookstore she owned on Main Street was no more than fifty yards from my desk and I had a front row seat for her morning rituals.

Annette walked down the street as if surrounded by moonbeams and unicorns, her smile radiant. I didn’t know it for sure, but I’d put money on her being the homecoming queen back in high school and Miss Congeniality, too. I’d also put money on her making it her life’s work to torture and torment me. She was a devil in angel’s clothing, I knew that to be fact.

Since my first days in this sleepy fishing town, it was the spunky brunette shopkeeper who’d stolen my attention. Annette knew how to wear the shit out of a summer dress. That woman’s bare calves were a public safety hazard. And her ankles. Fuck. Since when were ankles sexy? They were bony joints, for Pete’s sake. But all it took was the sight of her walking through the village in strappy sandals to turn me on.

As if the ankles weren’t enough, her round hips swayed like a hypnotist’s pocket watch. I couldn’t avoid the sight of her sun-kissed skin or her waterfall of dark, wavy hair if I tried. More than once, I’d found myself gazing after her, hands clenched, jaw on the floor, and a puddle of drool beside it.

Annette was the brightest star in the Talbott’s Cove sky. Every time I caught sight of her, I was powerless to look away. And that was why I couldn’t look at all.

I was a newcomer here, still working my way into the good graces of the natives. Bedding the town sweetheart wasn’t the way to those good graces, no matter how much she enjoyed it. And she’d enjoy it. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

But that didn’t matter. For the time being, I was sleeping alone. A temporary vow of chastity was the right thing to do. The town deserved my full attention, and my predecessor had made it clear I was to lead by example. No boozing, no gambling, no skirt-chasing. Not unless I wanted a one-way ticket back to Albany.

I wasn’t much of a boozer, gambler, or skirt-chaser, but I heeded the previous sheriff’s warnings nonetheless. Getting this job was a big step up for me. It was an even bigger step away.

In the span of a couple of months, I’d left my job and sold my home in upstate New York and headed for this town on Maine’s rocky coast. It was a bold move, but a necessary one. I wanted to find a different pace of life, and somewhere I could do important work and make some small difference.

I didn’t say it in job interviews or mention it in conversation, but I also wanted to belong somewhere. Maybe, eventually, belong to someone.

I shot the clock on my SUV’s dashboard a bitter glare. I’d already looped the town twice this morning, fielded complaints about a pair of foxes lurking around the Lincolns’ chicken coop, helped the innkeepers fix a section of their back fence that went down last night, and mediated a dispute between fisherman over some missing buoys. So far, a productive morning and yet I still had fifteen minutes before Annette would be tucked inside her shop.

I’d only managed to speak to her a handful of times. It wasn’t nerves that kept me away but a complete inability to look at her without wanting to step into her personal space and smell her hair. I didn’t understand that reaction and a part of me resented Annette for surfacing it. Hair-smelling. What kind of witch was she?

Instead of doing or saying something I’d regret, I kept my distance. This small town didn’t allow for any true distance but I didn’t have to watch her scrawl the quote of the day on the shop’s chalkboard sign or arrange and rearrange potted plants on the sidewalk.

Just the thought of her kneeling down to write in one of her gauzy sundresses drew a knot of want low in my belly. She was beautiful and alluring in the most simple, honest ways. Hell, she couldn’t jot down a Dickinson quote without lighting a fire inside me from across the street.

But I couldn’t get Annette messy and dirty. I couldn’t make her scream my name. Not unless I was also ready to wife her up, and I wasn’t sure about that. I couldn’t casually date her with the entire town watching—and they would watch—and chances were good I couldn’t casually fuck her either. She looked altogether too by-the-book for fuck buddies, and there was no room for a tomcat sheriff around here.

That left me killing time by patrolling the town’s back roads and praying the lovely book mistress was on time today. My cock couldn’t take any mix-ups this morning.

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people—be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane—ever since.

Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

Liza clutched the steering wheel as the car spun around on the icy road. Her shoulder and head slammed into the driver’s side window. Pain shot through her, and she groaned as the vehicle came to a complete stop snapping her body forward.

Time slowed, and the scene in front of her went fuzzy. Sounds echoed as if she were in a tunnel but were muted at the same time. Dogs barked, and car doors slammed.

A cold breeze hit her as the door opened, and she shivered.

The scents of sandalwood and cedar wafted into the car.

“Are you all right?” a male voice said.

Someone reached across her to turn off the vehicle.

She blinked twice as the lights in the car flickered on.

Liza twisted her head, but a green thermal shirt stretched across a taut chest blocked her view. Her mouth opened, but no words came.

“Did you hear me?”

Her gaze traveled up to find mysterious deep blue eyes staring at her with an intensity she’d never experienced before.

The man’s brow furrowed, and he tilted his head.

This time, the words tumbled out. “I’m okay. What just happened?”

“Stay put. I’ll call an ambulance.” He stuck his hand in his back pocket and brought out his phone.

“No,” she mumbled and rubbed the side of her head. “I don’t need an ambulance.”

He put his phone away, leaned across her, and released her seatbelt before helping her swing her legs out of the car. “Are you sure you’re all right? How many fingers am I holding up?”

“Two.”

He nodded and held out his hand.

“I’m fine.” She grasped the stranger’s hand, and sparks flew down her wrist. Her body stilled, and she fixated on his eyes as he pulled her to her feet. Her legs trembled as she stood.

His lips curled into a half smile. “Hi.” His hand came to rest on her lower back, and he led her out of the road.

“Were you the one who hit me?”

He pointed toward the driveway where two women stood. “No, my mother and aunt crashed into your car when they came out of my driveway.” He removed his hand. “Are you sure you don’t need an ambulance?”

“No, I’m fine.”

The two women whispered to each other and one gave a slight wave.

Liza waved back. She didn’t recognize either of them, but there was no reason to be rude.

“Are they okay?”

“They’re fine. Mom hit a patch of ice and couldn’t get the vehicle stopped.” He offered his hand, and she accepted it. “Julian Vitalli.”

“Liza Thomas.” A gust of wind blew through her thin sweater, and she shivered, rubbing her arms to warm her. “It’s cold out here.”

At midnight under a full moon, Dr. Arianna Halsey rushed down the obstetrics hall of Bryton Hospital. Beige walls whizzed past her, and the staff raced around as chaos reigned supreme. The swarm of people brought a wave of claustrophobia, almost as if she were swimming in a sea of hospital scrubs. She blew out a breath to rid herself of the building stress and skidded to a stop.

The door of the labor and delivery ward swung open, and a nurse stepped out. “Oh, thank God you’re here. Room two. She’s pushed twice, and the baby is crowning.”

Arianna hastened through the double doors and into the delivery room.

“Where were you? I’m pushing.” The woman on the bed screamed.

Arianna walked into the gown a nurse held out then slid on a pair of rubber gloves.

The nurse leaned in and whispered, “There’s a gramzilla in the room.”

Arianna stifled a laugh. A rolling stool sat at the edge of the drop-down bed. She sat down, rolled forward, and touched the woman’s legs. “All right, give me one good push, and let’s see what we can do to speed this up.”

“She’s been pushing.” The grandmother-to-be gave her a haughty glare then as if she were the doctor. “The baby’s too big.”

Arianna ignored the anxious grandmother and patted Alexis’s leg. Getting no response, she patted again, coaxing Alexis to look her in the eye and focus on what she was saying. “She is not too big, and you can do this.” Arianna gently massaged the skin from around the baby’s head. “She’s crowning. Two more good pushes, and she’ll be out.”

“Who is this doctor? She doesn’t know anything. I’m her mother. She needs a C-section like I did.” The mother hissed and threw up her hands.

“It hurts. I can’t do this.” Alexis tried to clamp her knees together and moaned as her back arched away from the bed.

“I know it hurts, Alexis, but you can do it. Push for me. You’re fighting gravity. Drop your chin to your chest, hold the back of your knees. Mom, you can help too. Hold onto the left knee as she pushes, and with your other hand, bring her shoulder up and forward. She needs your help.” Arianna put her hand on Alexis’ right knee to help from that side.

Alexis bared down. “Ow, ow, ow! I can’t.” She leaned into the push, and as she did her mother let go of her left leg to get behind her.

Arianna’s eyes widened as she tried to move out of the way but was too late. Alexis’ foot connected with Arianna’s shoulder, and the rolling chair went flying across the room. Her head connected with the wall, and everything went black.

Ellen Wilder was born and raised in Indiana. She is happily married to her husband of five years and enjoys raising their two girls and one boy in the house where she grew up. They have a border collie/corgi mix named Loki.

Her parents started reading to Ellen and her siblings at a very young age. They quickly tired of books for younger children and turned to chapter books like Tarzan, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings forging Ellen’s love for reading.

Ellen started writing in Junior High with an assignment from her computer writing teacher. Her first attempt at a modern day Old Yeller crossover with NYPD Blue was “awful”, but that didn’t stop the inspiration from flowing. Ellen now writes contemporary romance novels with a realistic twist to them. If you’re looking for fairy tales, you won’t find them here as her characters deal with real life issues. She loves helping people with their writing, paying forward the help that she has received allowing her to be where she is today.

Welcome the 6th Annual Mental Health Awareness Month Book Fundraiser benefiting the Keith Milano Memorial Fund at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

For the 6th year, an amazing group of authors have generously agreed to donate a portion of their May sales to the Keith Milano Memorial Fund, and for the first time, I am privileged to say that I am one of the donating authors.

I’ve spoken before about my personal struggle with depression and anxiety, and about how it has impacted my life and the lives of those I love. It is my dream that we #BreakTheStigma when it comes to mental health, so people no longer have to suffer in silence, and families no longer have to wake up to loss and heartache.

It might be a crazy dream, a far-fetched one, but it’s mine—and if there it anything I can I do to make it possible, then I will. And I hope you will join me.

Here is how you can help raise money and awareness for mental health:

You can purchase a book from the amazing books listed below! We hope you will #1click4charity a number of these amazing books! Please note that although are Amazon Kindle buy links, the portion of sales is from any platform: digital, print and audio.

Fund Information:
The Keith Milano Memorial Fund was established to help raise awareness about the devastating and deadly disease that is mental illness. Keith’s spirit and laughter is kept alive through our efforts to increase awareness about mental illness and to raise money for education and imperative research. Keith often struggled with society’s perception of mental illness. Our hope is that by having the strength to say that Keith was “Bipolar” we can strip away the stigma and help others to be more open about their disease.

If you want to know more about Keith or why Denise does what she does, here is short video/interview that speaks to that!

The Keith Milano Memorial Fund benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). At the end of the event, participating authors will pay AFSP directly.

AFSP is the only national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide. AFSP is a fully accredited 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated in the state of Delaware with primary offices in New York City. Federal tax ID # is 13-3393329. AFSP’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) number is 10545. Donations to AFSP are tax deductible.

LAST CHANCE AT 99c!

[image error]About Time is still only 99c, but not for much longer! I will be increasing the price on Amazon this evening, so if you’ve yet to one-click, now’s the time to do it. Click → HERE ← to grab your copy!

Want to know more about About Time? It’s a brother’s best friend romance, with second chance feels and a heroine who’s finally realized that she doesn’t need a man to achieve her dreams…

Here’s a little taste:

He lifted his head, their eyes meeting. Something passed between them, something nameless but right, something that replaced all the words in his vocabulary with one.

“Ashton.”

“I’m pregnant.”

Want to know what happens next? You know what to do!

Plus, check out these awesome reviews from readers, in case you need some more convincing…

“The writing is strong and the story perfect. I can’t wait to read more of this series!”

“What I have always loved about Beth’s writing is her ability to make her characters so real, so relatable, so genuine that they become like friends. They way Beth writes, it’s like she is telling a story about people I could know.”

“Cranford as done it again. Not only has she drawn me in with a fantastic book, she has left me longing for more. Her talent for creating real, flawed characters that draw you in and refuse to let go comes through in spades in this opening book to her new Avenue series.”

Have they—or I—convinced you? I sure hope so! Grab About Time → HERE ← for just #99c or #FREE with Kindle Unlimited.

Happy Sunday!

Beth ♥

About Time Has A New Cover!

It’s about time for this GORGEOUS new cover. . .

About Time might look different, but it’s the same book on the inside—a book reviewers are calling a “must read”, “perfect” and “worth the wait and the hype”.

Title: About Time

Series: The Avenue #1

Author: B. Cranford

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: April 25, 2018
[image error]

It’s all about timing . . .

Ten years. That’s how long Ashton Andrews spent wondering if she would ever have the family she craved, with a man who was apparently not the one.

Six weeks. Time spent patiently waiting, silently hoping and endlessly wondering if the decision she’d made to go it alone was the right one.

Nine months. Morning sickness, cravings and that constant need to pee are what Ashton has to look forward to, knowing that numbered are her days of being just one.

Fifteen years, eight days. An eternity ago were those unforgettable moments spent crushing on her brother’s best friend, yet her mind constantly turns to him—the one who got away.

The one who might yet be her one.

It’s probably about time she found out . . .

About Time is a contemporary romance featuring 30-something characters who know that life is short and know what they want.

B. Cranford is a proud Australian living in the USA, a lover of books, breadsticks and bed, and the mother of two children who are far too similar to their father for her liking. A lifelong reader, she dove into the romance genre on the recommendation of her best friend and hasn’t looked back since. Her debut novel, The Brightest Star, a second chance romance with (she hopes) heart and humor was released on July 13, 2017, which just so happened to be her birthday. Because if you release a book on your birthday, you get twice as much cake, and that can only be a good thing.

Title: A Case of Serendipity

Author: K.J. Farnham

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: March 20, 2018

Ruth Bateman is at her wit’s end. If Bucky’s Beans doesn’t stop spamming her phone with discount codes for frou-frou java concoctions, she’s going to flip. After multiple failed attempts to unsubscribe, Ruth takes to the company’s Facebook page to vent her frustration over the never-ending texts.

When attorney, Henry Mancuso, stumbles upon Ruth’s complaint, he has no idea that a simple Facebook scroll is going to change his life. Now, he has to get Ruth to agree to a class action lawsuit when she’s just looking for some peace on her mobile device—not a drawn-out case against a coffeehouse giant.

As Ruth and Henry battle the legal waters, a friendship full of fun and spontaneity blooms. But could something more be brewing between these two and this coffeehouse case?

Still standing on my bed, I glance out the window and wonder if any of the condo residents across the river are watching me. One second, I’m watching a show on C-SPAN about the science and physics behind the conveniences of everyday life, and the next I’m reading a message from Ruth Bateman and jumping on my bed. Anthony is right. I am a nerdy lawyer.

Clutching my phone, I hop off my bed and retrieve the remote for my blinds from the drawer of my nightstand. As I hold down the button to close them, I scrutinize the mess I’ve made of my bed.

I’m straightening my sheets and comforter when my phone dings. Anxious to see if it’s Ruth Bateman, I stub my toe, causing the nail to bend backward. But that doesn’t stop me from pacing as I read the email that could set the Bucky’s case into motion.

Hi again, Henry. (I hope it’s okay if I call you that. Please feel free to call me Ruth.) My email address is ruthieb@gmail.com . Just so you’re aware, I don’t want to be involved with a lawsuit, nor do I want any sort of compensation from Bucky’s. (I assume you don’t do anything without the prospect of getting paid, so that’s why I’m bringing this up.) All I want is for the texts to stop.

Have a good night and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Ruth

“Okay,” I whisper, as I make my way to my office. I have a habit of thinking out loud when I’m trying to solve a problem, and Ruth’s comment about not wanting to be involved with a lawsuit has problem written all over it. “Maybe she’ll change her mind when she sees how many others are receiving the texts . . .” I type as I talk. “Maybe she’ll want to be more involved then.”

I’ve gone over this case in my head dozens upon dozens of times, so I know exactly what the letter to Ruth should say. Within five minutes, I’m done, and the message is whizzing through cyberspace to her inbox.

Now, I play the waiting game. I kill time by cleaning my keyboard with short bursts of compressed air. Then I dust and straighten the items on my desk—a stapler, a statue of the Empire State Building (which serves as the perfect paperweight) from when my family drove to New York City when I was in eighth grade, a framed photo of my family from last Christmas, and a magnetic paperclip holder.

By the time eleven o’clock rolls around, I decide it’s time to shut down my computer and head back to bed. Unlike me, Ruth Bateman must have better things to do on a Friday night than worry about unsolicited text messages from Bucky’s Beans.
