Kobo 40% Sale

This is the first time I have mentioned a sale on a particular sales platform, but there’s nothing wrong with giving you the opportunity to grab The Lagotti Family box set with 40% off – and a host of other heavily discounted books at the Kobo May Sale and use the promo code MAYSALE.

It runs until May 27 so don’t hang around if you are a Kobo-ist. I have just made up that phrase in the complete knowledge it won’t catch on.

It’s the money!

I’ve mentioned this writer before, but I’d like to bear your indulgence and do it again. His name is David Fuentes and he has a collection of novellas about money. Literally. Here’s a description before you grab your own copy of Follow The Money

Follow The Money: A Tale of Tales’ is a collection of immersive Crime Adventure Novellas that follow the lives of different banknotes on their journeys, as they pass from one doomed soul to the next, through London and New York respectively. Both of these banknotes undergo …A TWIST OF FATE in the second installment of each story that sends them on a completely new journey into the unknown; so fasten your seat belts and brace yourself for the ride of your lives. YOUR JOURNEY AWAITS…

Book 1 ‘The £20 Note’ Delve deep into the murky underbelly of Britain’s criminal underworld whilst discovering a side of London that you never dreamt possible. Prepare to be shocked and amazed by what you find on your journey from drug dens to strip clubs and more whilst following a day in the life of a single £20 note; but tread carefully, your next step could be your last.

Book 2 ‘The £20 Note: …A Twist of Fate’ What would have happened if you took a different path in life, what may have been? Inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow’s mesmerizing portrayal of Helen Quilley in the British rom-com Sliding Doors, and set in the same city, we follow our original story as we discover what could’ve been had things played out just that little bit differently, but be warned, this is not for the faint of heart.

Book 3 ‘The $20 Note’ Money makes the world go round and nowhere is this saying more prevalent than in the Big Apple itself; where the streets are paved with everything but gold. Discover what those glamorous tourist brochures would rather you never knew about as you follow the path of a single $20 note on a disturbingly revealing journey into the very heart of New York; one that you will never be able to forget. An eye-opening tale of tales.

Book 4 ‘The $20 Note: …A Twist of Fate’ Is New York really a concrete jungle where dreams are made of? You thought you knew New York; well think again. Crime & Narcotics run rampant across the streets of Manhattan as we discover what really happens in just a single day in New York. Prepare to be astonished at the lengths people will go to to have a bite out of the Big Apple. A story not to be missed.

The decisions we make…

Midtown Huckster has given me the chance to find out a lot about 1930s New York gangsters and the unintended consequences of the simple decisions we make.

Joe Rosen was a trucker in the garment industry until Louis “Lepke” Buchalter muscled into his union and strong-armed his way into the business. At this point Joe gave up driving a truck and started his own candy store. Lepke thought he was spilling his guts to the recently-appointed special prosecutor, Thomas Dewey, so he calls for a hit on the confection king.

So far, so nothing, right? In the novel, we witness the syndicate discussing Rosen’s fate and watch what happens after the vote. What I love is that the final scene of this tangential event will only appear inside Casino Chiseler five years later.

Sleepless in novel form

Here are two free books from fellow writer, Audrey Walker–both are part of their Sleepless series and I will let their words speak volumes:

Sleepless Night (Book 1)

Introducing “Sleepless Night”, the first Book from the Shelby Griffin short story Series, your new Mystery Crime Series by Bestselling Author Audrey Walker.

Detective Shelby Griffin is sworn to serve and protect the city of Los Angeles. That doesn’t mean that she has to like it.

Actually, Shelby hates LA, and she can’t wait to get out of here and return to her hometown in Rhode Island.

For now, though, she needs this job, and she works the streets every day with her partner Trevor Morris. There’s no shortage of cases, either. Shelby’s neighborhood is on the very brink of an all-out gang war, and it’ll take just one spark to light the tinder-dry atmosphere. That spark comes in the form of a dead gangster who might just prove to be the catalyst for a gang war that could kill hundreds and cause devastating collateral damage. Or does it?

When Shelby discovers that the murder is not what it seems, she’s determined to find the real killer, but a kidnapping turns the whole case on its head. The murder Shelby is investigating has led to a terrible choice. Either way, people die. And if she doesn’t find the killer and stop him, those people could include Morris. The vigilante roaming the streets makes life even more complicated for LA’s most reluctant detective as she fights back in this fast-paced first instalment of a five-book series.

Sleepless Mind (Book 2)

The second short story from the Shelby Griffin Mystery Series is out!

Detective Shelby Griffin is hot on the trail of a six-shooter-toting, Stetson-wearing vigilante who’s bringing chaos to the streets of LA, the city she hates. While he seems to have helped her to rescue her kidnapped partner the vigilante still has blood on his hands – and Shelby is determined to bring him to justice for it. But she’s sidetracked from her mission when a silent killer begins to stalk the streets of Los Angeles. A disease right out of the Middle Ages is coming to kill the homeless people of the city, and someone brought it here deliberately. Someone who is bent on killing tens of thousands.

As Shelby and her partner Morris race to stop the spread of the disease, she learns that the stakes have never been higher. And amid chasing after this twisted criminal, Shelby will be brought face to face with her mysterious nemesis for the very first time. She’s not sure what he wants. She’s not sure where he comes from. But somehow, she’s going to stop him, no matter the cost. The plot thickens around LA’s most reluctant detective as she strives to bring peace to the city in this second installment of the Shelby Griffin Mysteries.

Number Ten

Ten yard line - football

It feels like just the other day when I announced the start of book 9 and here I am letting you know that I have just written the opening paragraph to my tenth novel, Casino Chiseler–the fourth book in the Alex Cohen series.

Set in the 1940s, this will focus on the start of Las Vegas as the gambling capital of America and will finish with the Kefauver hearings into organized crime. But I’ve only written the first hundred words so bear with me if I don’t go into too many details just yet. All I will say is that Benny Siegel will feature large in this tale.

Midtown manuscript

This week, I have spent my time reading and editing the Midtown Huckster. I had the pleasure of completing the first draft only recently and now it is time to finesse the splat of words into something worth being consumed by members of the civilized world (although obviously my fabulous editor Melanie is civilized and sees the text when it is still in a splat-like state).

And while I am talking about writing, I must follow up on my post last week about The Bowery Slugger. It got to number one in another Amazon AU–this time in Organized Crime Thrillers. Still stoked and I have been excited all week long. Can’t pretend.

Just thought I’d share my happy news – and thank you again to any and all who have offered me support these past few years.
