So the daffodils told me…

[image error]I have been waiting for my daffodils to flower for over three years. Every spring I see the leaves come up but alas no flowers. I was beginning to despair of any having any daffodils flower again in my garden again, thinking it was a borderline probability that they will flower regularly in our warm dry Mediterranean climate. So I was quite surprised this year to see not only the little leaves poking their heads above the soil but also flower buds (much to my delight). It seems like on every daffodil bulb I ever planted in the garden wants to flower this year! Which has been quite a lot over the years. One must live in hope!

Gardeners on the whole are an optimistic bunch after all! So I asked the daffodils why they are all flowering this year after many year of conspicuous absence! (I can talk telepathically to plants and garden fairies, just in case you didn’t know).

They replied that they are flowering now because there was an extended dry period followed by a long cold period, followed by some rain which mimics the climate from where they are native to (Southern Europe, Turkmenistan regions of the world so the daffodils tell me).

So thanks to a weather pattern native to where they live we shall have daffodil flowers this spring, yay!
