What Do Witches Do – the Do’s and Don’ts of Modern Witch
Magic practitioners exist all the time, as humans need them. They would not proclaim themselves as Witches, and they did not belong to the religion of any type. Nowadays exists a large enough group of people recognizing themselves as Wiccans and/or Witches. There is a vibrant and thriving worldwide community, created in the last century destroying any fears or doubts.
Witchcraft isn’t a trend. It’s not some cool way to wear your hair or a fun activity to check off the bucket list. Alexandra Roxo, writer, director, and modern witch, explains:
You are entering into a deep lineage by calling yourself a witch. It’s not to be taken lightly. Find something that resonates with you deeply. Forget about what’s cool. Practice it in private for years before preaching it on the mountaintops of Instagram. It’s not just a fun trend. It’s a reclaiming that thousands of women died for and you have to earn your place and honor all that has come before you. It’s using energy in powerful ways. Be careful and be responsible.
What Do Witches Don’t Do?
Witches do not do evil – We believe that doing evil and harm is against all ethical and moral laws. Further, Witchcraft tells us “An ye harm none (not even yourself), do what ye will.”
Witches do not worship Satan – We do not have a Satan/Devil or any all-evil deity in our religious structure. Witchcraft is a religion that underscores polarity and views the God and the Goddess as equal entities.
A male Witch is not a Warlock – A male Witch is called a Witch.
What Do Witches Do?
Modern Witches wear clothing of every color and every style – Many Witches do choose to wear black clothing or ritual robes. The color black is the culmination of all vibrational rates of light on the material plane. Black absorbs light information and helps Witches be more receptive to psychic impressions and energies.
Witches come from every socio-economic and ethnic background – Many Witches are professional people holding positions of responsibility such as Doctors, Nurses, Police Officers, Teachers, etc. Witchcraft does not discriminate against color or ethnic origin and does view everything as equal in the eyes of the Goddess and the God.
Witches do use spells – A spell is a thought, a projection, or a prayer. Other religions use prayer, meditation, protection, and ritual to produce an intended result. The word “spell” does not imply doing evil or harm.
Witches do use magic wands – Often you see the use of magic wands in children’s cartoons and movies making the idea seem frivolous. In actuality, they are used in healing for directing energy.
The Do’s and Don’ts of Modern Witch
Witches do use Witchcraft as a science, art, and religion – We use our knowledge and magick in harmony with the Universe and Nature around us.
The word “Witch” has a deep and rich meaning – As defined by the English Oxford dictionary, “Witchcraft” is a Celtic (pronounced Kell-tick) word meaning the wise, good people. “Wicce” (Wick-kay) designates a female Witch whereas “Wicca” (wick-kah) designates a male Witch.
In the religion of Witchcraft, we view the pentacle as an amulet and a symbol for protection – The five-pointed star represents the human body and the Earth. The star surrounded by the circle represents protection of the Goddess/God force. The pentacle is the symbol of Universal Wisdom.
Modern Witches do concern themselves with ecology – We have never forgotten this basic fact: the world is not our enemy. Neither is it inert, dumb matter. The earth and all living things share the same life-force. They are composed of patterns of intelligence, of knowledge, and of divinity, all life is a web. We are woven into it as sisters and brothers of All. Witches need to be grounded in both worlds and awake to their responsibilities for both worlds. It is only by being responsible human beings that we can be responsible Witches, and just responsible Witches will survive.

Wiccan Religion and Wiccan Sex Symbols
Sex and religion are not usually two topics you see discussed together. Many mainstream religions consider sex sinful or taboo. Wiccan Sex symbols actually play a prominent role in the Wiccan religion.
In many religions, sex is seen as sinful to a great extent. Usually, it’s not up for debate and is reserved for married people only. Most people don’t think about their God having sex, and God’s sex life is non-existent.
On the other hand, because things are unusual in Wicca, often they are misinterpreted. Sex has a prominent place within Wiccan religion because its main focus is fertility. Sex is weaved with various rituals, beliefs, rites, and myths. For them, sex is not just the sex act.
Wiccan Religion
If you ask most people what Wiccan religion is, you’ll probably hear it’s a ‘nature-based faith.’ One has to take into consideration that nature is not blinked into existence. Nature means sex.
Sex, of course, is pleasurable, is a feeling of love, and it’s how we bring children into our lives. But thinking beyond the mechanics of human sex, it ensures the reproduction of most species and the preservation of life.
Fruit-bearing plants reproduce sexually. Life on the planet exists on it just because it is fertile. The birds and the bees have it right: sex is what life is about.
You will find everywhere in Wiccan religion fertility symbols and symbols of sexuality. They reflect the productivity of nature. As the farmer plants the seed in the ground, so man plants a seed of life in the woman.
If we look at the Wheel of the Year, we will see that revolves around the farming cycle, that revolves around the Earth’s fertility. Traditional mythology associated with the cycles of the seasons revolves around sex. The Goddess and God have sex, she becomes pregnant, he dies and is reborn of the Goddess. Thus the cycle is immortalized. Wiccan religion teaches us is that the sexual energies of the Divine are weaved with the fertility cycles in nature.
Wiccan Sex Symbols
Wiccans use various altar tools with a lot of sexual symbolism aligned with a gender. Yonic symbols are associated with the female gender and represent the vagina and the womb. They’re usually passive and receptive. Phallic symbols are tools related to the male and represent the penis and are active and projective.

Wiccan Wands – Real Magic Wands for Spells and Rituals
Some people like to use a real magic wands for spells and rituals, while others don’t. Wiccan wands are a symbol and a real means of administering the power for centuries.
The purpose of a wand is to collect and project your energy. If you prefer, you can store the energy in your body and transfer it with your finger. Just consider, that for millenniums, wise men used it as a psychologically valuable tool for focusing and mentally balancing the forces.
How To Make Your Own Wiccan Wands
The material you use is optional, just wood possess “vibrations,” as a natural material, which make it the best for use for Wicca spells. Druids preferred rowan wand, yew wood wand, or hawthorn. Pine, spruce, and cedar are soft wood and are easiest to work with if you want to carve it. The distance from your longest fingertips to your elbow is considered to be a traditional length for your wand (45 to 54 cm). Thickness is about that of human finger or thumb.
Also, it’s nice to go out and find your secret piece of wood from a fallen tree. Do not forget to thank the nature spirits and the tree for what they have given you. You could do what you wish to make it prettier, just remember that you should have a reason for everything you do. As you are shaping it, concentrate on the Magical uses of your wand.
I would recommend playing some romantic, friendly and relaxing music while working on your wand. This little stick is going to become a handy tool in very soon. And as it is a magical item, your intention and energy is everything. You might let some ideas come to you as you smooth and handle your unfolding magic wand. Try to imagine what its spirit might be like and how will help you to channel your energy effectively and efficiently. Remember, you are transforming the wand from “just a stick” to a magical object. That’s the most critical part of the process of making your real magic wand.
Anointing Your Real Magic Wands

Once you are ready, you must anoint the wand. Anointing can be as elaborate or as simple as you want to make it.
If you are a novice, work with something you know about and makes sense to you. Lavender Oil is lovely for all cleansing and healing. If you are planning to do a lot of mystical things, pick a Frankincense oil. Rose oil is an excellent choice for any love spells.
Enjoy giving the wand a passionate stroke with the chosen oil. Feel it in your hands and fingertips, appreciate the scents, and have a wonderful time doing this. Think about the magic you want to perform with it. Talk to your wand, tell it what you are hoping for to achieve.
The more love you can build up between you and your magic wand, the better it will work for you.
Decorating Your Wiccan Wands
The decoration didn’t serve any purpose in the magic world. The rule is simple: if something doesn’t have a use or help the intention of the real magic wands, just leave it out! For all magic workings, less is more, and that’s worth remembering as a principle. If you have many ideas of what to put on yours, you might decide to make a whole series of Wiccan wands.
Dedicating The Real Magic Wands
The following ritual of dedicating should be performed despite you make or buy the ready-made magic want.
You need to give it a lot of thought what you will say out loud during the Wiccan wand dedicating ceremony. You should involve ancestors and spirits, deities and angels. Take some time to create a beautiful speech that is well-defined, compelling and covers the basics. Your statement should be genuine, rhythmical, and sincere and raise enough energy to catalyze the sleeping wand into existence.
Please, don’t worry too much about the perfect rhymes. The honest and real vibe that comes from your heart and that you believe in is far more potent than some old thing from the dark ages. This is about you, your energy, your magic, and your very own magic wand. Your wand will work, even if you don’t get it correct the first time out, and with experience, it just gets better and better.
Wiccan wands dedication -How to do it?
1. Declare your name and mission:
I, _______, stand before the ( ancestors, spirits, deities or angels) that be to dedicate this wand I made with my own hands.
2. Get help:
I ask my guardians come to me now, to help in this endeavor.
3. Name the Wiccan wand:
I name this wand “___________”.
4. State the purpose:
May it aid me in engraving my will upon the fabric of reality, for healing, progress, love, and growth.
5. Gather energy and make the dedication:
I,______________, now activate this magic wand. May it serve me well.
6. Thank the help:
I__________ thank the powers that be and my guardians for their support this night.
7. Close the real magic wands dedication :
My will is done.

Wiccan Clothing and Ritual Robes
The manner you dress would affect the way you feel and your success in most human activities. Some people do candle burning in their everyday clothes and enjoy a reasonable degree of success. They would have greater success if they were more concerned with what they wore. The reason is simple: when you put on distinctive ritual robes or wiccan clothing, used exclusively for Magic rites, your mind is much more open to the Magic itself.
What to wear to a Wiccan ritual?
Some Pagans keep special garb for rituals only, so whenever they put it on, they are preparing to be in sacred space. Others have special ritual jewelry.
Many Wiccans strip naked while performing Magic rituals. To go through the process of removing all clothes can be as emotionally energizing as putting on distinctive ritual robes.
Wiccan Clothing and Ritual Robes – Do’s and Don’ts
DO wear something that makes you feel good and prepares you to a ritual.
DO wear appropriate clothing: lighter for a hot room, or warmer for drafty or air-conditioned spaces;
DO Wear proper footwear for outdoor rites.
DO choose something that will remain comfortable if you have to stand for a long time.
DO wear clothing that fits with the theme of the ritual
DO take a bath or shower before the ceremony.
DON’T choose bulky, heavy garments that restrain movement
DON’T wear flammable clothing around candles.
DON’T wear anything that’s likely to be distracting to you or others.
DON’T wear strong-smelling perfumes, aftershave, or body lotion.
You don’t have to wear a pentacle the size of a dinner plate just because you’ve decided Wicca – or some other form of Paganism – is the right path for you…
The really important thing to remember, though, is that your spirituality is not defined by what you look like on the outside. Coloring your hair black and wearing fairy wings doesn’t make you Pagan, any more than wearing sensible shoes would make one a Christian. Your belief system and practice is something that comes from the inside. Don’t worry about feeling out of place if you’re wearing your business casual attire at a Pagan event – chances are there’s at least five other people looking at you with envy, wishing they had dared to show up in something from the LL Bean catalog.

Money Candle – How to Make it With Orange Shell
Often times I find an article by someone else that speaks on a topic much better than I ever could. In this case, the article is about candle magick and money candle. I hope you enjoy, and get as much out of it as I did. Lets send our blessing to Silver RavenWolf for the exelent idea.
See step by step original post here.
Years ago Lady Breid Foxsong created a chant that goes like this:
Gold and Silver
Coins Galore!
All are coming
To my door!
As I hummed the chant the other day when pouring candles, I thought, “Why not use an orange shell to punch up the power of a prosperity spell?” Add a few Chinese good luck coins, grind in a bit of prosperity powder, sprinkle the top of the money candle with gold and silver glitter to match the chant, and…ta-da! Super charged prosperity candle!
What You’ll Need to Make a Money Candle
One fresh orange
Candle wax of your choice and appropriate equipment: I used soy because it requires only one pour and doesn’t sink. You can purchase microwaveable soy wax at your craft store, which eliminates muss, fuss, and extra equipment if you are not a candle making enthusiast. Most brands are an easy clean with soap and water.
Prosperity Herbs of your choice: I used mint from my 2011 garden, cinquefoil (the Braucherei herb of good fortune), a little rosemary to clear away negativity, and chamomile. I also chose protective cloves as a decoration.
One Waxed Wick: that will support the diameter of your orange.
Wick Tab or glue gun: to secure the wick to the orange, keeping it stable while pouring.
Prosperity Coins: you can use the Chinese Good Fortune coins as I have shown here, or you can use coins from your own country. Brand new coins (such as pennies) also encourage good fortune and prosperity.
Gold & Silver Glitter: matches the chant above, or you can choose another color, or go without completely.
Sweet Fragrance or Essentials: to match your intent. Honeysuckle, orange, bergamot or mint are excellent choices for prosperity. Color can also be added. There was no color added in the example candle.
Other supplies you may find helpful: Tray covered with tinfoil (to catch any drips or spills when you pour the wax). Paper towels. Metal skewer to punch holes in orange shell so that decorative cloves can be easily inserted.
Here’s How To Do Money Candle
Step One. If the candle is for magickal work, cleanse and consecrate all tools, herbs, etc. in the manner in which you are most comfortable. When you are ready, cut the orange with a sharp knife.
Step Two. Clean out the meat of the orange from the shell with a spoon or a citrus spoon. If you eat the orange meat, you encourage good fortune coming directly to you.
Step Three. Pat the shell dry with a paper towel. Remove as much moisture as you can.
Step Four. Affix wick tab to wick bottom. Place wick in center of orange shell. You can also use a glue gun for this step. As the orange shell was still a bit damp when I placed the wick, it tried to slip a bit, but remained stable during the pouring process.
Step Five. Heat wax according to manufacturer’s instructions. Add color and scent according to product instructions. In the example candle, I chose to use the natural color of the soy. While the wax is melting, grind any herbs you wish to add to your final blend. Remember that whole herbs tend to make candles unpredictable. To ensure a safe burn, I always powder the herbs and use only a small amount of the powder in the brew. Again, this is your choice. Mint, cinquefoil, and chamomile are great herbs for a prosperity candle. You can also add patchouli!
Step Six. Fill shell about three-quarters full with hot wax. Allow to slightly cool — about fifteen or twenty minutes before adding coins.
Step Seven. Press the lucky coins into the wax tight against the sides. If the wax is too hot, you’ll know, because the coins won’t stay. Conversely, if the wax is too cold, it may chip. Take your time.
Step Eight. When you have added all the coins you desire, continue pouring hot wax until it reaches the brim of the orange shell.
Step Nine: Sprinkle edges of candle (away from the wick) with your empowered herbal powder. Add gold and silver glitter. Allow candle to cool completely.
Step Ten: If you choose to ring your orange candle with decorative cloves, carefully insert skewer about 1/4 inch from the rim of orange to create a small hole. The hole doesn’t have to be very deep, particularly if you are afraid of dislodging the coins around the candle. Insert one clove into each hole.
Finished DIY Prosperity Candle
Your candle is now ready for ritual work or spell casting! Use Lady Breid’s chant to bring that prosperity you deserve right to your door!

What Happens After We Die & Wiccan Beliefs
There’s no nothing in Wicca that tells us to believe in any particular version of life after death. We hold a few concepts only about what happens after we die. There is a lot of variety there left for your interpretations.
Wicca does not pretend to have the answers to this particular enigma. We have no manuscript, no widely-accepted prophecies nor beliefs about what if one exists at all, the afterlife might be. Wiccans agree that death is it is a natural part of life cycle and no need to fear at all.
Wicca is a religion that is not intensely focused on what will come after life. As humans, we are curious and have our theories, but our faith is concerned with how we live our lives, not what happens to us after we die. Making the most of our lives and embracing it here and now, is what the Wicca is about.
Let’s explore some of these opinions usually found among Wiccans.
Beliefs in the free spiritsSome Wiccans assume that our souls are eternal and free from our bodies when we die.
Once we’re released from our physical body, the soul is released entirely unfettered to explore the vast expanses of time and space, like permanent astral travel. You can watch your children throughout generations, or you can just ‘go to sleep’ and never wake up unless you want to.
Beliefs in the spirit world (The Summerlands)The spirit world is another reality behind ‘the veil,’ where souls go to rest and reunite after death. Some believe that this is a beautiful rest stop where everybody, the good and the bad, goes before moving on to a new incarnation.
Beliefs in ReincarnationThe notion that we will ultimately be born again into a new life is what reincarnation is about.
Wiccans also see nature as cyclical, planets orbiting around the sun, the phases of the moon and the changing of the seasons, life appears to come full circle before moving on. In this thought, reincarnation spiritually fits and this is the most broadly believed concept.
Beliefs in Earth-bound SpiritsSome souls become ‘trapped’ on Earth because they have an incomplete business, don’t know they’re dead, experienced shock or trauma, or are trapped by their negativity. Some souls don’t move on to the spirit world or become reincarnated until they can be freed from their Earthly prison. These are ghosts and existences that people believe haunt some places, poltergeists, or others.
Beliefs at The end of the lineSome Wiccans didn’t believe that there are immortality or ghosts and for them, death is the end. When leaves fall from the tree, the ones in the spring are not the same leaves.
When humans fall, the life energy is re-consumed by the universe, and the body is consumed by the Earth. Life after death is regarded nothing more than wishful thinking, or a fear of mortality. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. As far as any mindfulness goes, it’s lights are permanently out for us.
What happens after we die?Being Re-Absorbed By The Divine SourceAccording to Heron Michelle from Witch on Fire
“The beauty of Witchcraft is the inherent poetry, the repeating patterns that echo truth throughout time, space and consciousness. I may not be a farmer, herder or a hunter, but I still must wrestle with my own mortality, just like everyone else. At this Greater Sabbat when we celebrate the peak of the tides of autumn and the Earth’s decline, I acknowledge both the final reaping of whatever Great Work of my personal evolution I’ve been cultivating since Imbolc, and the “killing off” of anything within myself that no longer serves the highest good of the new and improved me that I’ve become.”
There’s a popular Wiccan chant shown that we are naturally reabsorbed into the Divine Source:
We all come from the Goddess;
and to Her we shall return
Like a drop of rain flowing to the ocean.
At some point, when we’re ready for rest,
we return to the Divine Source of all things
and become part of it forever.
Wicca faith is mainly focused on how we live our lives. We are curious about what happens after we die while embracing this life. The mission that Wicca religion is about live your life here and now and making the most of it.

Magic Circle – How to Cast a Circle for Beginners
Casting a magic circle is easier to explain in theory. Despite how many books and guides you read, only with practice you will learn how to cast a circle for beginners.
Various religions have a permanent place of worship, like churches, temples, mosques, etc. where their followers go to pray.
Solitary Wiccans almost never have a distinctive building to be used as a sacred place. They are expensive to maintain for the small group normally formed. The more important reason is that Wiccans don’t need it. For Wiccan, you carry with you spirituality no matter where you go and the spirit of worship is not in the building but in their hearts.
For their own purposes, they create a sacred space for ritual wherever and whenever they choose. The circle, used in many spiritual practices, is loaded with a mystical symbolism. Wicca has borrowed it from them. When creating sacred space, they used the rites: ‘Casting the Circle,’ (“Erecting the Temple Rite’ or ‘Circle of Power’).
What Exactly Is a Magic Circle? The magic circle is more as a sphere or a giant bubble. The big ring are on the floor where orb touches and passes into the ground. The ‘skin’ of the balloon prevents things from moving in and out of it. The area inside it has been cleansed and blessed. This bubble, filled with sacred space, is your temple, ready for your worshiping.
Inside, you create a pocket and are transported ‘between the worlds’. It is an intense psychological form in which Wiccans mentally ‘draw a line’ between mundane and ourselves and keep the mind focused on spiritual matters.
What Does the Magic Circle Do?In Wicca, the Magic Circle is used as a barrier for protection against negative energy or entities. Wiccans don’t have heaven or hell, demons, and fallen angels, etc. The primary function of the witches circle is to hold the raised within positive energies until they are ready to be released. It’s a conjunction for the powers of the forces, the practitioners, spirits, or deities invoked and worshiped there.
Is the Magic Circle Really Necessary? You can be spiritual without a circle if you choose that. Done right, the circle is profoundly beneficial for your practices and spiritual growth as a Wiccan. It promotes the tradition of Wicca as a religion and helps you better understand the Wiccan ritual as a fluid process. It promotes ritual awareness and the acceptance of sacred space, and the devotion of the performed rituals. It’s a place of meeting and communication with the divinities. It helps you learn to sense and focus the energy.
If you don’t cast a circle well, nothing wrong is going to happen, maybe only your ritual won’t be as effective as it could be. Cast it well, and you will be able to wholly grasp the full meaning and structure of an entire Wiccan ritual.
How to Cast a Circle for Beginners?Anyone, Wiccan or not, can cast the Circle, and this is one thing every Wiccan should work to master. You can do casting in a group or as a solitary. You don’t need to be coven initiated or a High Priest/ess to succeed. Start with some reading, followed by practice, included meditation, energy work, and casting the circle regularly, at least once a month in ritual. You can cast one simply sitting inside for a while, just to explore. Only with practice you’ll get the real ‘feel’ of the process and progress your skill level, harvesting the benefits from this rite.

What Goes on a Wiccan Altar
Wiccan altar is a sacred place where you can perform candle magic. The altar is often considered a personal place where you can put the ritual items.
Most people use a table or sideboard as an improvised altar, and there is nothing wrong with this. There are benefits from having a designated personal sacred space for prayer, meditation, and ritual place that is used solely for your magic. The purpose is the key to all magic, and this also applies to the altar itself. If you set aside a space for magic, with the intention of using it only for this purpose, it will develop a character and spirituality of its own. Whenever you find yourself in this space, even if it is a corner of a large room, you will immediately feel centered and secure.
Your altar can be as elaborate or as simple as you wish. A coffee table works well. Many people prefer working standing up, and a sideboard might be a better choice for them. Make sure that the altar is aesthetically pleasing to you. The only essential requirement is a flat surface to work on, which means that you can use almost anything that appeals to you. It is an excellent idea to consecrate your altar by smudging it or bathing it in both sunlight and moonlight. To do this, place it outside on a sunny day for a few hours, and then allow the light from a full moon to bathe it for a few hours, too.
Some people cover their altar with a white silk cloth, which is often embroidered or decorated in some way. It is essential that this fabric is used only for its designated purpose. I have met people who have them in various colors. They use the correct planetary color for the particular ritual they are performing. It would be insulting to also use these planetary fabrics as tablecloths.
Many magicians have side tables beside their altars to hold any equipment required for a particular ritual. You should use a side table only if it can fit comfortably inside your circle.
What Goes on a Wiccan Altar? Some people like to keep specific items on their altars. Goddess statue, Athamés, chalices, censers, pentacles, crystals, and wands are good examples. A Book of Shadows, tarot cards, and various other divination tools are also frequently found on altars. The items you keep on your altar are up to you. I use an altar cloth, and place on it only the items that are necessary for the ritual I am about to perform. Everything else is kept out of sight.

Wiccan Altar Set up Ideas for Beginners
A Wiccan altar is a sacred space with spiritual objects used for divination, spells, rituals, and prayers. Wiccan Altar Set up is an integral part of your meditation and connecting to deity.
How to set a Wiccan altar?
According to Scott Cunningham, the left side of the altar should be considered the Goddess area; feminine or yonic symbols ( bowls, chalices, and Goddess representations and statues). The right side is designated for the God; phallic symbols (athame, wand, and God statuary and his candle).
The left and right associations vary according to your personal preference, but the center area is always considered to be the working area. In the center of the altar are kept the main symbols of the Wiccan faith (pentacle).
Some Wiccans arrange their altars to represent all four elements and directions. In the North the Earth element is represented; in the East is Air, in the South is Fire, and in the West Water.
When placing items on an altar or when “calling on the elements” (a practice involving inviting the elements to be a part of the circle and lend their power), a practitioner will move deosil (clockwise or sunwise) and when dismissing the elements, they will move widdershins (counter-clockwise).
What should I put on my Wiccan altar?
Setting up a Wiccan altar is easy. You’ll want to add your magical tools, Wiccan God and Goddess statues, altar pentacle or magic candles, but the altar should be mainly about functionality. It needs to be set up well to assist you in achieving your goal. Here are the things that most Wiccans and Pagans include on their altars.
Wiccan symbols represent the four classical elements, aligned with the four cardinal directions.

Wiccan Altar Set up Safety Concerns
Anything to do with fire has the potential to be dangerous. Having something under your candle holders for protection is essential. A metal tray may not look glamorous on an altar, but it is a necessary piece of equipment. Leaving candles or incense unattended can cause a fire, especially if there are flammable objects on the same altar. A small fire extinguisher is also a good idea.
