Pagans around the world celebrate the birth of the Sun and Yule for centuries. Christmas will continuously find roots in pagan traditions with Wiccan Yule decorations. This birth of the Sun, as in the star in the sky, will bring us new warmth. Get your Winter solstice altar ready to reach, pull in and harvest that energy.

Winter solstice altar

Create a Yule altar, something that symbolizes your purity, spiritual growth, and development. You can go with different themes, as a blank slate is a new beginning. Use the idea of snow colors, white sand or silver items. Hang white snowflakes around your home to keep the spiritual environment clean. The white color design reflects purification and your fresh start.

You can go with the more Sun filled themed for your winter solstice altar. Use the colors orange, red and yellow to incorporate that Sun’s energy and light that it brings. It is a good idea to hang some gold Suns around your house as a tribute.

Use a cloth in a fresh color to cover your altar. Make a seasonal smudge stick, bundle herbs together, tie them with string, and allow them to dry out, ready to be burn later.

Candles for Yule

Yellow candles, gold discs, any bright and shiny decoration can represent the Sun. Inscribe solar symbols on a large pillar candle, and assign it as your Sun candle. Add evergreen sprigs of holly, boughs, a Yule log, pinecones. Wiccan Yule decorations like Santa Claus, antlers or reindeer mix well with other symbols of fertility.

Yule Log and Yule Decorations

Gather your family and close friends and create that Yule Log you’ve always wanted to do. You’ll find it much more memorable and enjoyable. These old Yule traditions can also be embarked with the ceremony to follow.

Yule Decorations

Create some natural ornaments. Take some flour and water and make little decorations. Once they’re dry, you can paint them with beautiful eclectic colors or very earthy colors. In the dough, you can mix herbs or resin that you like. Add things that will add protection, happiness, financial stability, helping you release fear.

Yule celebration will help you with fertility in life, new beginnings, and fresh starts. Whatever you feel appropriate, you can make each ornament its little magical spell. Once you’re done decorating it, you can carve or paint a runic symbol. Add some magical symbols that you feel will incorporate all its symbolic magic into that one ornament.

Then you can decorate your tree, your garland or your home with these magical Yule decorations. You can also bring in some dried pinecones, apple or orange slices that you dry yourself and hang them around your house, as part of your way of decorating with nature.

Celebrating With Your Yule Log

If you do make a Yule Log at the beginning of December, you can use it as a centerpiece and enjoy it before it’s burned in the ceremony. There are many different ceremonies and practices you can do around a Yule Log. Do what you are comfortable with and again do your research or make something up that you feel drawn to do. When you do create a log, make sure it’s clean and dry before you bring it inside. Some people like to remove the bark before taking it into their home.

You can collect some pine pinecone, cinnamon sticks and things of the like. You can make a string of dried cranberries or even pomegranate seeds. Leave some room for extra ribbon or spaces for your candles, so that you can illuminate your Yule Log.

Get your whole family involved in creating your Yule Log. Sit around the table or counter space. Let everyone to set their intentions for the New Year as they place their decorations on the log.

When the time comes to hold the Yule traditions ceremony for the Yule log burning, make sure that everyone who helped craft on it is present. If you have a fireplace, you can do this indoors, or gather outside and make a bonfire.

Circle yourselves around the fire, place the log to burn and set those intentions free. According to Yule traditions, everyone should remain present until the wood is burnt all the way down. You can save a little bit for the next year. You can sing carols around it, hold hands and dance clockwise. Do whatever you feel is right to do.

Yule traditions are all about the community coming together during times of darkness, so keep the positive atmosphere and attitude.

Yule Traditions: Smudge Sticks and Yule Blessings

When Yule arrives in December in the Northern hemisphere, or in June for the South– one of the most well-known aspects of the season is specific scents and smells. Yule traditions are triggering memories and recollections of the Yule season and Yule blessings. Aromas like mulled spices, pine needles, frankincense or cinnamon are reminders of the wintertime holidays.

Yule Traditions: DIY Smudge Sticks

To make a seasonal smudge stick, you bundle herbs together, tie them with string, and allow them to dry out, ready to be burn later.

Plants such as evergreen juniper, pine, fir, balsam, and cedar can be mix with other scents you find appealing. One of the best combination is rosemary, pine, fir, and juniper.

Trim your clippings down to a length between 10 and 25 centimeters. They can be as long as you wish. Put some branches together, and wind the string tightly around them. Tie a knot when you get to the end, and leave a loop to hang them for drying for a few weeks. Once they’re ready, burn them according to Yule traditions during Yule rituals and ceremonies, or use them for the cleansing of your sacred space.

Yule Blessings and Purification Ritual

Create a purification spell or ritual not only with yourself but mainly with others. As you do this, everyone can come bringing a good intention and good positive energy.

Light a white candle in the middle of your circle and as everyone’s standing, before they are seated, smudge everyone. Smudge the bottom of their feet too, to make sure they have a good connection to mother Earth.

Get more people involved in this as you can, the more, the merrier. Make sure you do use a Yule smudge that has some pine or pine scent in it. It could be herbs resin, smudge wands or just insense. Make sure that you do smudge everyone head to toe.

As you do smudge it, each person says a blessing to them and make sure they respond with opening themselves to receiving the blessings and open themselves to purification. Standing or sitting, holding hands and going in a clockwise motion, let everyone speak out, something that they are grateful for. Repeat this pattern while going in a circle until it comes to an end.

Then everyone should quietly sit for a simple meditation with some holiday music or some seasonal music to lift the spirits. Close the circle going counterclockwise and everyone saying thank you.

You will need some matches, and some love oil. Rose essential oil, Jasmine oil or pure love oil are the best for this love potion spell, so beautiful and innocent.

Magical Name – Choose Your Witch Name & Work Your Magic

The witch name is one of the least tangible, yet, the most important of all your tools.

The name that you use now is the name that you probably used all of your life. All of the thoughts that you’ve ever formed about yourself is in this name. Since the name represents who you think you are, it’s very healthy and also very time consuming to purge all the unwanted thoughts and feelings that you have about yourself and your name. Until you do this, however, your witch name may not feel like a powerful magical word for you.

The best practice is to come up with a new magical name and use it while working your magic. Choose the magical name that reflects your powerful, free, healthy and happy witch aspect.

Many choose the name of their favorite God or Goddess, Hero or Heroine or another powerful legendary character. Some people prefer a name , and others want a name based on just the way it sounds. There are no real rules about coming up with a magical name, other than adopting a name that feels right and good in your heart.

The sound of your name should be a statement to you.

It says: “This is who I am! This is what I’m doing as a witch! I’m happy about it.”

Your magical name is not a device for running away from yourself or your past. It is an opportunity for you to take charge of your magical life. Your witch name is a like little button you push in your conciseness, every time you speak it. It opens up the gate of your magical self.

Some witches have two craft names: a public name and a private one.

The “public” is the one that is used through craft circles and gathering in their community. The private name is the one that they share with few, if any, people. A secret craft name would be the link with the deepest parts of their minds and the Gods.

At this point, just using one craft name is sufficient. One that you use for yourself and when you interact with other people in the craft. Once you discover your witch name, just say it out loud to the Cosmos.

Sure, you can use a , or go down the standard list of , but for most people, it’s more gratifying to find one that’s unique and speaks to our personality and our values.

Whatever method you end up using, think carefully before you finalize your new witch name. Find the magical name that is right for you — and when it IS the right one, you will know.

Magic is a part science and part spiritual, something right in the middle. We are made up of the Universe, and we can manipulate the Universe in that way.

The number one reason why you may not be having spell success is that your messages to the Universe just aren’t specific enough. You may not know what it is you’re seeking, or you’re not very clear. So if you want a vehicle to come into your life, you want to narrow down all the options that you want. What color, style what make or model and be very specific. You can, however, keep your intentions very open and let the Universe bring something to you whatever it may be.

The number two reason to have low spell success is that you might be letting too many outside opinions to alter your thoughts and beliefs about witchcraft. If they just don’t understand it, then their opinions might be altering how you feel about the magic spell that you cast. The best thing to move past these views is to not listen to them. The guidance power of your magic spells comes down to you and how much you believe. So if you are letting other people sway your opinions, magic won’t be as strong as it can be.

The number three reason your magic and spells may not be working is that you haven’t allowed enough time. When you’re trying to cast a spell for something big, you need to let the appropriate time for it to make its way to you.

The number four reason number your spells or magic may not work is because of your uncertainty. Before your magic spell, do some quick pendulum work or a Tarot card reading, to find out if you’re on the right path for the current magic spell. Be confident what it is you’re putting out and what it is you’re genuinely seeking.

“God of all abundance, God of Wealth, God of all things good, take from me all that is not working. Take from me these burdens. Take from me what is not mine. Free me from all bondage. Cleanse my mind of all thoughts and ideas that are unlike your thoughts of infinite wealth and riches.”

6. Place this paper in front of the burning candle.

7. On a new sheet of paper (or multiple sheets if necessary), write out your vision of a perfect resolution that you can envision for your financial life. Dare to be specific. Take some time, and fill up some pages. Write out precisely the financial life you DO desire.

8. Address the God of Wealth directly again. Read off your new vision out loud. Then say,

“Infinite Abundance is now mine. I accept it in your Divine Order, and through your Divine Love. Thank you that this is so now.”

9. Light your list of money troubles in the flame of the candle, and place it to burn in the fire resistant dish.

10. Allow the candle to burn down and out. You may burn it a little each day if necessary, but never leave a candle burning unattended.

11. Commit to reading your new vision each day, out loud, until you feel confident that all is well financially.

12. Once the candle has finished burning, sign the back of the square of Jupiter that was under the candle, and place it in your purse or wallet, where you carry your cash, knowing that the God of Wealth multiplies your wealth exceedingly, each and every day.

13. Any time a financial worry comes to your mind, remind yourself immediately,

“This has been taken care of in Divine Order already. All is Well with me now and forever.”

Even if one hundred financial worries come to you in an hour, repeat this one hundred times to dissolve them. Do not allow a negative thought about money to go unresolved.

Soon you will find that you have conditioned yourself to wealth and Divine financial order. And you will see results in a very short time.
