Almanac
Its not that Im giving up.
But when you change the goalposts
And have nothing left to say anymore,
The thought that I have most
Is resignation.
Ive predicted that this day would come,
Like Im a self-inflicting almanac
That foresaw one day, youd be done.
I guess I kind of hoped
This meant more than silent retreat,
But its okay. I accept it wasnt. That Im not.
I wont force what isnt there to defeat.
I have grown cold with acceptance that
Theres no longer any interest here for you.
So this is...
Daily Drivel – Gone
Hello! Todays random word was function.
How is Oliver supposed to function now hes gone?
The world is still there, but everything is different, like the air around him is waiting for Deans return. The clack of Olivers coffee cup against the kitchen counter rings far louder than it needs to, like it wants to draw Deans attention, evoke the teasing voice that used to follow about him being heavy-handed. The space in the shower cubicle now seems cavernous, pressing back in wait for Dean to...

An Uncounted Statistic
He sits in the shop doorway trying to disappear into the background under the glare of the soft orange street light. His hands absent-mindedly wind the thin fabric of the dirty tattered blanket hed stumbled across yesterday around his long, chapped-from-cold fingers. A thin layer against the night was better than nothing, and hopefully hed still be able to feel his fingers by morning unlike the rest of the past week. Tucking the edges around himself under torn canvas trainers, around frayed...
Daily Drivel – Beneath
Hello! Todays random word was visible.
The mound where the fort used to be is barely visible, overgrown with grass and moss hiding the structures built beneath. It only looks like a lump almost to the summit of a hill, a natural bump in the landscape perhaps deposited by glaciers long melted. Those who walk over it sometimes comment on the hollow feeling beneath their feet in places; how would they feel if they knew one false move might send them plummeting into a cavernous prison below?

A Study In Pride
Dont tell me youre proud of me,
When its nothing but a fucking platitude,
A balm to soothe the wounds of your words,
Or to pull out the barbs
Of your own lack of worth from my skin.
You dont get to be proud of me,
Show me off like a trophy of your achievements,
When your dismissals etched into my surfaces,
Marking me forever scarred.
You are not proud of me.
You scorn anyone whos ever praised me.
Laugh, sneer, joke like I am one,
Until I become one.
Until your song is the only one I remember the lyrics...
Daily Drivel – The House
Day two! This time the random word generated was myth; this is how it turned out!
There is a myth about the old house at the end of Martins street. The house is dilapidated, with broken boards at its windows, and a front yard that has crept up the crumbling steps for being so overgrown. Even those who have lived longest on the street and in the neighborhood dont really know much of its history. They dont recall the names of the previous occupants, or know when the house was built; the shape...

As Nature Intended
When you first learn that you are an Omega, you learn all sorts of things you never imagined you would need to know when you were growing up. The essentials: Heat suppressants, scent masking, how to handle an Alpha that is scenting you, and of course, the laws that are in place to protect you, in a society that is accepting and progressive, yet still has elements of its attitudes stuck firmly in the past. You also learn that through no fault of your own, or conscious effort, it is...
Daily Drivel – Warm Hands
Hello! Okay I have no idea how long Ill do this for, but since I cant seem to get my head around prompts I thought Id try to motivate myself to write in another way. So Im going to try to post a short thing every day (okay, some days) from random word and picture generators. Lets see how it goes!
Todays word generator gave me the word sleeve; and this is the result!
The slip of the record from its sleeve conjures just as much nostalgia as the music itself will once William lowers the needle...

A Different Meaning
Strong must have a different meaning where youre from
If thats the label youve pinned to my sleeve,
And Ive been playing the wrong role for far too long.
To me, strength means courage even when things go wrong,
Not defeated and beaten, with paranoia to weave.
Strong must have a different meaning where youre from.
It means knowing where you thrive, and where you belong.
Not living a lie in a land of fake-believe,
And Ive been playing the wrong role for far too long.
Trusting in things that youve...
