Evolved
Did you know
There are entire universes at the bottom of a bottle of wine?
Among all those bits;
I don’t know what we call them,
But the things that cling to glass rims and dry lips;
Those things.
In between these,
Entire worlds are turning…

Weekdays and PolygonsSometimes it takes reaching rock bottom to learn who we are, who we want to be, and who we need in our lives. With a new found family, and a new sense of purpose, maybe it’s okay to learn to trust again.
A collection of poems thr...

Diesel

By day she plays make believe in her grandparent’s pantry, pretending she is in the cab of a train. But by night the train takes her to all kinds of places, making frequent stops at an abandoned platform where she fears she’ll never escape. Is it merely the stuff of nightmares, or is there a more grisly story to tell?
The pantry cupboard in my grandparent’s house was next to the front door.
It occupied a floor space of barely a square metre, but there was space enough for shelf upo...
Whatever Comes First

Whatever Comes First
Matthew isn’t looking for a relationship. Ask him, and he’ll say it’s because between work and studying there’s just no time. Ask his best friend, Sarah, and the story is a little different and involves a failed relationship that left him raw.
Enter Joel, a childhood friend of Sarah’s recently back in the area. He’s not looking for love, either, but he’s not averse to the idea of a little fun. Uncomplicated and on the same page: what could possibly g...
Easy
In school, he’d always thought studying was easy. And through college, his bachelor’s degree, and even his masters, Aaron had never found learning that hard. He’s dealt with difficult clients and impossible deadlines all his adult life. Created a work-life balance that many would be envious of.
Yet as he sits cross-legged on his bed like he remembers doing when he was a teen, not a single one of the words on the page is making sense.
“Not sinking in?”
Aaron relaxes for the bed dipping, ...

Duality
Our politics are picked and chosen from a buffet
That is designed to feed us all yet only select few
Ever get an invitation to.
In a world of possibility where all we see is inequality
In a society that persecutes its members
For the crime of not quite fitting a pre-made box
In a community where we create the sense of other
Instead of recognising difference is just part of the same whole,
How is it possible to be one person when
Everywhere you turn…

Booksprout
Since apparently I’m never capable of doing anything in the right order, I finally made an account on the lovely Booksprout. So if you were interested in having a read, both Raife and Dexter Are Getting Married and From Coffee Shop Corners are up there for a few more days. Go take a look!

Raife and Dexter Are Getting Married
Raife and Dexter are one of those couples who make lonely people reach for a bucket of ice cream and watch Bridget Jones for the hundredth time. They also just happen...

Clueless

Daniel should have known better than to think he had the answer for everything. Or anything, really. Life had proved to him beyond a doubt that he was, in fact, clueless about so many things.
Take Keith. Well yes, Daniel thought to himself, blatantly watching the pull of muscle beneath Keith’s shirt as he reached over to grab the ketchup as they indulged in the burgers they normally only met up for on Sundays mid-week; he would happily take Keith in every which way possible, and ways ...

Can We Go Back?
I remember the first day you held my hand.
Your fingertips paused at my wrist, waiting, hesitant,
Then caressing their path across my palm.
You slipped your fingers through mine and held on,
And I could talk of magnetism, electric,
Forces that for us have no name or meaning,
The very air settling, wrapping around in embrace,
But it would mean nothing.
Would not capture how it felt to belong,
To not doubt, to know inner peace for once.
I cannot find the words. I don’t think there are enough of them,
And my ...
As Nature Intended

As Nature Intended
Presenting as an Omega at the age of fourteen, Elliot has grown up cautious, distrustful of the world around him, yet determined to live a fulfilling life in spite of that. He is successful at work, has recently moved into a new apartment, and everything in his world appears to be falling into place. Which is, of course, exactly when his body decides to rebel, forcing ideas and urges into Elliot that he has spent his life trying to deny.
Enter reluctan...
