Indie Author Interview: Nate Philbrick
Welcome to the first-ever KRS indie author interview! Joining me from far-off Barcelona, Spain is Nate Philbrick. Wave to him. He won’t be able to see you, but do it anyway.
Nate is the author of the fantasy novel Where the Woods Grow Wild (which, as you can see from this review, I enjoyed very much). He’s currently hard at work on the sequel, Where the Woods Grow in Flames. (At least, I certainly HOPE he’s working on it. His fans should probably stop distracting him by asking him to do all...

Cover Reveal for H.L. Burke’s “Coiled”
I’m honored to be one of the bloggers participating in the cover reveal for Heidi Lyn Burke’s new myth/fairytale retelling Coiled. (And to Heidi, if you’re reading this, sorry for the lateness. I meant to schedule this in advance for the morning but something went awry.)
A healing touch. A hideous face. A looming curse.
As the ugly twin to a perfect sister, Princess Laidra lives her life in the s...

The Beast of Talesend: The Audiobook–Sneak Preview!
The audiobook of The Beast of Talesend is coming along beautifully. I can’t wait to share the whole thing with my readers. For now, however, here’s a video of Richard ‘Spanners’ Ready (of the Missed Apex Podcast) working on the narration:

Doctor Who: “Thin Ice” Review
The Doctor and Bill visit Regency London (not Victorian this time, so no sign of the Paternoster Gang). Specifically, the Frost Fair of 1814, when the Thames was frozen over in the “Little Ice Age.” But there’s something under the ice that’s eating people.
Because the TARDIS chose this destination, so of course there is.
The Quick & Spoiler-Free VerdictOh, this was a fun one. Easily my favorite episode yet this year. Capaldi and Mackie are both at their best, the relationship between the Do...

Beaumont and Beasley: Big Announcement! (and Other News)
I have a terrible confession to make. I am going to fail Camp NaNoWriMo. I may as well admit it; the handwriting is on the wall. My downfall approaches.
If I am to die, let there be fire.
I may stop attempting NaNoWriMo for the foreseeable future, due to reasons I will discuss in another fascinating blog post. This fascinating blog post is going to be all about recent events on the Beaumont and Beasley front, some of which are partially responsible for diverting my attention from getting a f...

Doctor Who: “Smile” Review
Series 10 of Doctor Who continues with a story set in the distant future on an eerie human colony planet…where the Doctor and Bill discover an army of homicidal emoji-faced robots!
Wait, come back! It’s actually good!
The Quick & Spoiler-Free VerdictA satisfying episode that makes good use of familiar Doctor Who tropes while strengthening Bill’s character and her relationship with the Doctor. Not groundbreaking, and not without fault, but highly enjoyable.
The GoodThose who read my review o...

Some Quick News
This isn’t going to be a long post; I just wanted to update my followers on a couple of things. First off, about those extended marketing plans for The Beast of Talesend: I’m afraid they’ve stalled for the time being. Snags have arisen in my efforts to publish to both Nook and iBooks, so it looks like I’m going to be Amazon-only for the foreseeable future. This isn’t a big deal to me, though I hope it’s not an inconvenience for any of my readers.
Also, in addition to the Beaumont and Beasley...

Doctor Who: “The Pilot” Review
The Doctor is back at last! I’ll be posting weekly reviews of the show throughout the run of Series 10. They’ll include some spoilers, but I’ll have a brief spoiler-free synopsis at the beginning of each one for people who haven’t seen the episode in question yet.
So, without further ado, let’s discuss “The Pilot.”
A rewarding comeback for the show after a far too lengthy absence. Die-hard fans won’t be disappointed by the episode, and newcomers will find it...

Updates on The Beast of Talesend
First off, I want to wish everyone reading this blog post a blessed and happy Easter. The stats for this site have risen significantly in the past few weeks, and I really appreciate all the interest my readers have shown.
Now, I’m not exactly sure how this next piece of news will be received, but I’m hoping it won’t be too much of an inconvenience. As of tomorrow, The Beast of Talesend will be leaving Amazon’s KDP select program. That means it will no longer be available on Kindle Unlimited.

Diversity, Discernment, and Doritos
The title of this post is not a trick. It will actually involve Doritos. Not tangible, edible Doritos, but theoretical ones which are philosophically relevant and still quite delicious. (In theory, at least.)
Normally, I try to steer clear of internet controversy. There’s enough of it going around these days without me adding fuel to the inferno. And I don’t intend to fire up any heated debates now. (Take note, commenters.) But given various recent events in the realm of film and geekery, I b...
