You may not believe in the concept of God, but there is no doubt that there is something inside of you that desperately wants to be free. I know you can feel it, and if you let it speak to you, I believe it can show you a particular path specifically designed with you in mind. You don’t have to know what this path looks like right now. If you did, you would probably turn around screaming anyway. You will have bumps, detours, and maybe even a couple of dead ends, but if you move one foot forward and free yourself from your force-feed description of God, I promise the road will become clearer.
I will never claim to know who God is, or even what God is. I have absolutely no idea. All I know is what I feel inside of myself. That in itself is the most useful answer I can give to the most dissected question in the history of mankind. Once you stop fearing God and realize he isn’t hovering in the sky, judging your every move, you will have a better understanding of the power that lies within you. I no longer look for answers from someone or something outside of myself. My answers come from a feeling of love and passion gently placed inside a gift that I carefully unwrap with gratitude and compassion.
I’m not writing this post to argue about God’s facial features or to turn you into a believer, but if you dare look yourself in the mirror, he will appear. It might be the last place you thought to look, but he’s there. You will recognize his face when you ignite the candle of thought that lights his name. Free yourself from who you think you are and what you think God is supposed to be. Your existence was only a thought, and your redemption is merely an extension of your knowledge of what God means to you.

I don’t care what you call me. You can call me a Christian, or you can call me a heathen. That’s your decision, not mine. Like your opinion about my beliefs, my connection to God is mine, and no amount of convenient labels can compromise that fact. I will never question your faith, but if you choose to see mine as misguided, that is your choice. I believe there is a universal presence in this world, and you can call it whatever the hell you want. I choose to call what I have found God, but you may wish to call it something else. It makes no difference to me what label you use, but if you’re not careful, it can hold you hostage.
If I tell you that I believe in God and that I go to church, you might label me a Christian. That’s ok with me, but as soon as you use this label, your perception of me changes into a belief that you hold about what it means to be Christian. It may have some truth, or it may be completely false. It’s mostly based on your own past experiences and no reflection on how I live my life. If I tell you I believe we are all connected through a universal mind, and I meditate every morning around 4:00 am, you might label me a spirit junkie and picture me sitting under a tree performing a two-hour meditation. I’m not sure I can even sit still for that long.
I’m not interested in your opinion of me even though my ego consistently tells me otherwise. The label you choose to put on my spiritual journey is not my concern. My only concern is continuing to strive to become the best version of myself. I cannot do that by walking in someone else’s shoes or trying to dissect the individual labels people cement into the ground along my path. It’s instinctive for human beings to be a part of a group, and I encourage you to find a group of like-minded individuals that share your values and beliefs. Just be careful how you label something that was never meant to be labeled.
