If you are looking for a closer connection to God but still...

If you are looking for a closer connection to God but still having difficulty breaking through to the other side, I recommend you take up a little hobby called reading! It’s been around for a while, and you might enjoy it. I understand if you don’t like to read or you have no time for it because a few years ago I could count the books I read on the one hand. To be honest, I’m not even sure I finished them.

I can also say that if it weren’t for a couple of transformative books on my reading list, I would still be walking around with my eyes closed, pretending I knew where I was going. Reading not only opened my eyes to the beauty that surrounds me, but it also opened my mind to new ideas. I’m not saying I was a bad person, but living the same day over and over again hoping for a different outcome was the wrong formula for happiness.

There are a ton of great books about spirituality you can pick up right now, and if you check out my Goodreads account, I have over a hundred of them listed. Some of them are packaged up as motivational or success books, but God is present in each book, asking for your attention through the voice of another.

However, if you hate to read, I’m also a big advocate of audiobooks, podcasts, and videos. My suggestion is you turn off the tv for a half-hour a week and find something on YouTube that inspires you. It could be an audiobook, Ted X talk, or even your favorite celebrity talking about their passion. I don’t care what it is, but try and find something that excites you.

The bottom line is there are people all around you with answers, and a lot of them even packaged up years of knowledge into little books you can week in a week. If you are sitting home thinking you are alone, think again. If you are searching for God or even a better version of yourself, you can find help in the knowledge of others. Grab any book and see what you find. It may not be the answers you want, but it could be the answer you need.
