Playlist of an unlikeable demon hunter

There is a lot of music in this series, which is probably fitting since Nava grew up dancing and Rohan is an ex-rock star. I thought I’d share it with you. I ended up creating two lists (both found in the extras section on this site). The first one was the original list written after book one, and the second came when I finished the first draft of book four and figured I should update things. Click on the song title to be taken to the video.

Enjoy! I hope you find some new songs to love and if you think there is a specific song that should be in these books, let me know.

Do you get into music moods? I do, especially at various stages of writing. I can’t imagine this series being written without these songs, many of which were played ad nauseam on repeat.

My characters don’t sound that way, do they?

I find it really hard to listen to audiobooks, with the exception of certain authors like David Sederis or Steve Martin reading their own work. I guess I’m super particular about what characters sound like and any deviation from that just knocks me out of the story.

Which got me thinking about my characters in The Unlikeable Demon Hunter. With Nava’s voice, I just hear my voice, which, yeah, let’s just leave the psychology of that alone. But with Rohan, while I can hear his regular California rumble, I was having trouble hearing his singing voice.

That all changed yesterday. I was at a music festival and happened to catch the end of Nick Sherman’s set while I was waiting for next group of musicians to get onstage. I stood there transfixed, because this was the closest to Rohan’s raspiness that I’d come. Though I also hear him with a smoky smooth voice when he’s not being all raspy.

So take a listen and let me know what you think. And if you disagree, then point me in the comments to whose voice you do hear when he sings.

Cover reveal The Unlikeable Demon Hunter: Need

Cover reveal time! Isn’t it pretty? I’m so happy with the covers in this series and give all the credit and love to Damonza for creating them.

It’s book 3 people, and things are heating up.

Less Hopelessly Devoted, more Worse Things I Could Do.

Nava is hot on the heels of a demonic serial killer and finally working with her brother. The assignment should be a dream come true, not a nightmarish power struggle made worse by her twin’s refusal to believe there’s corruption within the Brotherhood. Nava is determined to find proof of their dirty dealings, even as she risks irrefutably breaking her sibling bond.

Speaking of clocking annoying males upside the head… Nava is also totally over smoking hot rock star and fellow hunter Rohan Mitra. There is a veritable buffet of boy options out there, and this girl is now all-you-can-eat. So when her demon hunt brings her first love, Cole, back into her life, her revenge fantasies for closure–on all fronts–are a go. Except neither her old wounds nor her new ones are as healed as she believes.

Happy book birthday to an unlikeable girl!

The Unlikeable Demon hunter is officially launched! Huzzah! Happy book birthday to meeeeee. When that opening sequence of some chick doing the walk of shame up back home, only to crash her brother’s induction ceremony and learn that the secret society of demon hunters had been training the wrong twin all these years first popped into my head, little did I think it would kick off a crazy new chapter in my life.

But I’m so glad it did! Writing this series has been my way of exploring my complex emotions and frustrations around both the “nice/likeable” label thrust onto females-even fictional ones, as well as my experiences growing up Jewish and certain prejudices I encountered.

And hell, I’ll admit it, Nava is me with my filter button turned off and I love writing her.
