Fang of May

That’s what I’m choosing
To call

The thing on a string
Pried out of a beast maw,
Carved into,
And given to me.

That’s what I call
The tooth taken from
The land of ‘alala

Meant to be gifted
During the holidays
By the violinist who
Bartered for it in Hawaii.

And I stare at it,
Now these years passed.

The curved blade of
A bone, with beads
And brown twine
Holding it together
With khaki accents;
A tiger carved out of
The fang’s root,
From the volcanic land
Of Hawaii.

Chorizo

Chorizo

I was never the biggest fan
Of egg breakfast burritos
But my girlfriend made
Some one day with chorizo

So

I thanked her for cooking
One morning in November

And enjoyed my torilla
Wrapped spicy breakfast

Unaware of the Stakes

Unaware of the Stakes

I was too young
To be hanging out with
College kids,
But they did no harm

And they talked
Like I did,

So I think that’s why they let
Me be me
And let me see the
Cool things they all did.

At the house we had
Xbox and Risk
We all slept in the garage
And exchanged music discs.

At one point on youtube
They put on the song Teardrop
And as the night wore on
My ears were enblissed.

And at 3am when the
World was taken over or
The pieces on the board
Had dug in for war,

A guy nam...

Zeppelin of Twilight

Zeppelin of Twilight

What have we really conquered?
Fighting for so long
That the war prizes
Were ruined.

All the gas and craters
And uncovered traitors,
The bombs in the sky
And their detonators,

The trenches are filled in
With brass and incense
And dusk now descends
As ritual ash when

Casings hollow,
Solemn in falling.
Buds shed blood
And the mud gets swallowed.

Today we remember havocked
Steps above trenches;
The days before
That bloomed so radiant.

Now, in this time,
This afterglow,
We ta...

Yakima Valley

Yakima Valley

Flowth of a river
In a valley of
Sunburns

150-car trains pass
Through at 3am
In a hundred degrees

While we’re outside
In light clothing
Camping

With sparse pine trees
Lining the water
With a strong current

Such a freezing cold spray
In such dry air of
Arid solitude

Fractal 2016

Fractal 2016

The repetition
Into itself

So many colors
Some ROYGBIV

A blacked out
Boldblunt path

Reaching into endless
Spiral voids

Viscera swirling
Into whiteless planes

Lemniscate flesh
Of chromic canaries

Collapsing constantly
In the coal mine

Where coal
Black as a black hole

Is the
Still breathing soul

Of the same canary

They Dwell

They Dwell

Sweet and sharply fir
Alpine

Evergreen

A forest in a needle

Pulp and timber
Sappy bark lumber
Aromatic
Incense-y

Branches climbing upwards
Towards sunlight
Snowloading
New growth

As embers light
Like flakey flint

Smoked in pipes
Outside of tipis
Around bonfires
Under midnight

Communing with the
Muse
Of nightmares
And dreams

And faint distant
Memories

In ritual rites
A ceremony

They dwell in the trees
And the water

They snow on the leaves
And blanket the walkers

These augurs who wan...

Poikilothermal

Poikilothermal

Breathe
Deep

Icicles move across
Lungs

Every pulse
Of a diaphragm

Scrapes on bronchi

Airy notes of snowscapes
And stern teeth of mountains

Poised and stood
In cold
A crevasse

Tough as granite
Smooth as stone
Sharp as stalagtites
Blunt as the cold

In your hands
Or your ears
In frost without clouds

Where the sun smashes
Into the side of the
Stone

Wind rips and tears
Heat away as it goes
Eroding the chrome and
Trappings away

Stripped barest as
Can be as the beast
Of decay with it...
