Jungle of Hell – Rehashed

This was a fun one. Jungle of Hell was published last summer to very little notice, but I think it’s worth a second look at.

Original text here: Jungle of Hell – Text

From the off, you might notice this poem has a significantly different bend than ones you might be used to from me. I have roughly three themes I enjoy writing about consistently: romance, abstractions, and aggression. As I said above, this is one of those aggressive ones, and I don’t really write about it terribly often. I bend...

Late May on Fire

What a magical day, in an exciting time. Priceless like Mayrigold.

A lot braver than I, standing on plastic, and rowing away in Commencement Bay.

V

Doomsday
By the fifth
Turn of the year

12/21/2012

When we had
Camera ready
And ample
Batteries

To record hell
As it unfolded

Fate was slow
To turn that day

From an apocalypse
To our every day

Foretold by the Maya
And nostradamus
Our world ended
That day

Have you felt the same
Since midnight came?

News – Mayor Dean Recovers from Attempt on his Life

Day 1,052, Reality City – Just a month ago, Mayor Dean was shot at by assailants wielding crossbows while he delivered a speech in the Memory District. The speech, which contained overall themes of “not dwelling on things” and a hard stance against gambling, was contentious to say the least. While the crowd was well-behaved, the Mayor’s presence in Memory was anticipated as part of his campaign against the district’s popular strip of casinos.

“Gambling isn’t a sin, but it isn’t great, either,...

A Thousand Wishes

A thousand wishes
Reminiscent of dresses
Hung in the closet
Of a studio apartment

On her half while his
Held suits and slacks
And black dread where the
Colorblind saw comfort

On the elevator up
There’s glass between
You and the city
While you rise

Each little street
Divides itself to
The horizon growing
Pink with sunset lines

Wisp of the scent
Mist of the bent
Rays of light as
Particles

This couple eloped
They couldn’t see
But stoked frostfire
Of every evening

With the dread of
Tomorrow lovin...

Solar Flytrap – Rehashed

Been a while since we’ve done one of these! But these are fun, and since I’m feeling incredibly broken let’s go to a place that is broken. The inspiration for Somewhere Else, the place a very long drive away, the place that is isolated for good reason, Ellensburg!

I haven’t stopped harping on about this place lately, which is especially true because of my recent visit which culminated in fuck-all. But we’re here to talk about poetry and why we write it, so let’s break down why I wrote somethi...

Quantum – Journal 3/20/18

Man, that last journal was an odd one. That happens every so often when I’m scatterbrained. The more things you have, the more it hurts when it’s all kicked out from under you.

Pierce College continues its rampage against my bank account and general well-being by offering nothing outside of a fishing line with a little piece of paper attached to the end. Recent events have put me in a position where things really are uncertain for the forseeable future. Foreseeable meaning “tomorrow, maybe”....

Our Mountain’s Siege

Picture
This

Place picked apart
Piece by piece
By a glacial
Machine

Letting forests
Like moss creep

Through
Ice jacked
Cracks in the
Granite greybacks

Slow saw chain teeth
Cut as earth breathes

As some mountain pass
Gaps fill with glass
An argent surface
Of liquid canvas

Pouring water falls
Against an eternal siege
