Your Hand in Mine
Okay, so it’s no secret that this book was a long time coming. Some stories scream out at you and beg you to write them now, now, NOW! Others work in a quiet whisper and you know you need to finish (mostly because you are on a deadline).
With Your Hand in Mine releasing in 10 days, I’d like to share one of my favorite parts with you!
CHAPTER TWO
It wasn’t a literal explosion. The kind where the world turns red and there are screams in the air, flames eating along the ground and the apocalypse on the horizon. Mushroom clouds and fallout. No, definitely none of those. It wasn’t the kind of explosion where fireworks burst to life in the open night sky and you remember the thrill of your first fourth of July. The wonder. Those memories of when you were eight years old and your parents let you stay up late, eat whatever you want, and fall asleep on a blanket watching the colors.
The kiss was, however, pretty damn close to the second one. So close it was easy to confuse the two in my mind. Wowzah.
Fenton had claimed my kiss. I’d paid the fee. I’d gladly pay it again and again and again, however many times I could as long as he’d keep kissing me!
I let out a small sound somewhere between a moan and a sigh and felt myself lean closer. Fenton’s mouth was warm and inviting. Sweet in the typical way of first kisses, sweet as tea with a gallon of sugar made right in grandma’s kitchen.
Then it was more. It was the tugging like a gigantic fish hook through my belly button until I pressed closer still for a better taste. His lips moved over mine skillfully and I forgot that he’d done this before, numerous times today with numerous other women. Probably Leslie Gordon, for all I knew. None of it mattered.
Fenton tasted like cinnamon and possibilities.
A thousand years later he broke the contact, leaving me stranded in midair with nothing to fall back on. “I hope you have a nice day,” he murmured softly. “Thanks for stopping by. Your support means a lot to Heartwood Community Schools.”
I made some sound of assent, not sure what to be honest, and turned around, blinking like I’d gotten salt water in my eye. The sun was blinding. My mouth a straight line of confusion, vision blurred. I wondered if I’d suffered a minor stroke or something worse. Could I still feel my arms and legs?
I gave one a test, then the other, covertly shaking my feet. Yup, everything still worked.
“Aunt Shari?” A low, sweet voice cut through the haze.
“Hmm?”
Kaylen held up a finger once I turned. “Can you go get me a corn dog? Pretty please? Just one. I’m starving over here and I didn’t pack any snacks.”
“Sure, sweetie,” I replied over my shoulder. “Whatever you want.”
I couldn’t look back, didn’t want to see whatever expression was on Fenton’s face while I struggled to make sense of what had happened. People were talking around me, a din of voices where it was hard to pick out a single word, a single sentence. The noise blurred together until all I heard was the beating of my heart in my ears.
What the frick had happened?
Or the better question…was he looking at me? I hoped he was.

A New Christmas Novella
Hello everyone! I’ve been thinking about a Christmas novella set in the universe of my small town of Heartwood . It will be a contemporary romance, for sure, and I’ve been hammering out the details to see if I can get something together that I’m really excited about. This blurb is in no way complete but it helps to summarize what I’m thinking!
What are your thoughts?
Last Christmas Angel
Easton O’Callaghan was ready to shift gears for the holidays. Discontent with his busy life in the city, he books a room at a unique mountain bed and breakfast in Heartwood, Virginia, determined to relax. That plan changes when he runs into Quinn Armstrong. Or rather, her dog runs into him.
Quinn is an artist with the unique talent of creating masterful Christmas decorations from recycled and local materials. When Easton sees her work, he knows it’s a talent he wants to foster and see grow to staggering success. There’s only one problem. She doesn’t want the success! Or him, for that matter.
With his time in Heartwood running short, Easton must try to convince Quinn of his sincerity and the depths of his budding feelings. Will he make the conquest before Christmas and live happily ever after?
