Forty-Two Places – The Tours!

Starting in 2021, you’re invited to join me on a 5-day or 14-day vacation tour of 42 places in England related to Douglas Adams.

Working with Nerdventures, a very special arm of Melvin’s Travel Adventures, I’m designing a unique itinerary for Douglas Adams Literary Tourists.

Literary tourists are travelers interested in going places that exist in both books and the real world. Literary tourists are fascinated by the life of authors and their works. You might be a Douglas Adams...

Life After Death

Olieo Dog on Hendry’s Beach, Feb 29, 2016

The ghosts drift down the cliffs under cover of mist and sea-spray. The deep basso of foghorn a warning. My dog runs, uncaring, over sand and rocks, splashing through waves. When the ChuckIt flies, he is swallowed by wet cloud drifts blown against the headland. When he reappears, carrying the neon orange toy, his tail happily disperses the ghosts.

He is unbothered by them, but I don’t like the way they cling to my ears. They whisper and leave cold...

Happy 42nd (+5) Birthday to Me!

Five years ago I went on a quest. A quest to 42 places that occur in Douglas Adams Novels, over 42 days, for my 42nd Birthday.

Beginning on March 7 (The 42nd Anniversary of the first radio broadcast of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy), you’ll notice some changes to my run-of-the-mill, whatever-is-up-with-me-now, Aspirations Blog. It will be morphing to focus predominantly on The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy 42nd-anniversary...

“How are you doing?”

This is Jeremy, an exotic parrot. I adopted him 31 years ago. He is a Moluccan, or Salmon-Crested Cockatoo, and he will be 32 years old in June.

He’s smart, he mimics language and “talks” to the extent that he says things when he “knows” it is the right time to say it.

Certain phrases have tone, which I anthropomorphize as meaning. (I know I do, so it’s ok.)

An example is when Jeremy-the-Bird says, “I love you.” He says it in the same...

Word for 2020

In 2020 there will be so many words.

Writer with a capital “W” and Author with a capital “A.”

There will also be style, costume, touring…but the predominant activity of 2020 for me is the business of publishing and preparing to celebrate the 42nd Anniversary of the publication of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

So how do I distill all of that into a word? Three words? A motto? A mantra? One thing that sums up how I will keep 2020 focused and on-track?

Why, I pick a lipstick.

Book Review: The Adventures of Sally by P.G. Wodehouse

Some of Pelham Grenville Wodehouse’s works can be as dreary as his full name sounds, but not The Adventures of Sally. This clever little book is my jam for many reasons, as I said in my Amazon Review.

With well-plotted humor and tons of wordplay it is just fun to read. I love the prohibition Jazz era setting and the zany plot twists.

If you decide to check it out for yourself, please let me know what you think!

Sexy, Party of One?

Yvette in August

My friend Stephanie complimented the picture of me above, which made me stop to think about it and why I included it in my top 2019 Performance Moments on Instagram.

The picture is a performance. It is a moment in time when I channeled an idea, an attitude, a feeling, and I projected it into the world to be seen (in this case by my iPhone, and now all of you.)

According to her compliment, I succeeded in creating an inviting moment, a sexy moment, a sultry moment. HOORAY (And WHEW)! That’s...

20-20 Theme

Welcome to 2020!

In my continuing effort to share some of my Random Journal Writings with you all, here’s another exercise I did in Write From The Body. It is based on a poem and the prompt, “I am From.”

If we don’t look back at how far we’ve come and what makes us who we are, how can we move forward? Plus, who doesn’t love an origin story? My origin story is so entwined with Santa Barbara. I absolutely could not be who I am without this incredible town that I love.

Some Things Missing

Holiday Reality: I visited my niece and her family over the weekend. That love makes being back at home today harder.

I miss my Dad, who would’ve been 77 yesterday. I miss my Mom, who would’ve been 74. I miss my aunt, my mentor-first-hardresser, and teachers who’ve passed. I miss my mother-in-law & her partner, the sibling of my childhood. I miss my once-were-and-are-not-now-friends, and even my not-right-now-friends.

There’s just too much missing in my life for it to feel like a holiday.

Publication Announcement! Greenman Wakes

It is fun to let friends and fans know whenever I’ve been published. Guess what?! It’s happened again!

An annual tradition I plan to continue is the inclusion of one of my Coven of The Bowler Urban Magic Stories in Enheduanna, a Pagan Literary Journal.

Cover of Volume 4

In Greenman Wakes, we return to Frank, the hapless wanna-be wizard who can’t get any spells right. Previously, in my Vol. 2 story, Cernunnos, Frank asked for an ancestor’s help to brew a potion and end the drought. It...
