Why thank you! I’d like some more dog food, please.
DAY ONE,STEP ONE:Talk to the scary people.
The day after the election, in my grief and rage I implemented the first step of my “stay sane” plan.
Anyone I don’t know how they voted is a “scary” person. Get rid of the scary people. Excise them from my life. (I didn’t say it was a GOOD plan.)
What I really wanted to do was get rid of my own fear by denying my love, attention, and friendship to scary people. We’ll come back to that.
My first “victim” of this plan was a craftsman planning to do...

What Cassandra Knew
It is the beginning of week two of NaNoWriMo and I cannot think, I can only feel, and I feel horrible. Day eight technically, but it feels like Day one of being reborn in a Cowardly New World. Luckily for me, writing is not the sort of thing that requires clear thought because I don’t care very much about the clarity or the grammaticality or the accuracy of my words today. Today all I am capable of is expressing my feelings.
The past year or so I’ve been trying to re-learn to write; to write...

My first published short fiction!
After only seven rejections, my first “finished” short story is published!
I’m happy. It is a huge deal because my struggle is that I never FINISH anything. So this is a big win, people!
Although I don’t think Roundabout Protection started off as much, I like what it turned into.I’ve heard there’s a market for anything not-too-badly-written, and apparently, I’m proof. In 2015 I found out that a local online news site ran an annual Halloween story contest. At the time, I was writing, getting...

The Dressmaker
The lights came up, the credits began to roll, and my husband turned to me and said, “I’d watch that again. Right now.” Which made us both laugh out loud. But we were used to that by then.
Watching the final hour of The Dressmakerwas a well-matched emotional tug-of-war, with regular intervals alternating between genuine, joyful, laughing and horrified, suspenseful, gasping aloud. Very rarely have I made so much noise watching a film. At one point I was helpless to stop myself from covering m...

NaNoWriMo Prep: Are You Ready?
(Hint: I’m not)
That’s a hard thing to admitbecause I’m signed up to be a Model WriMo this year, a.k.a. a Municipal Liason (ML). Being an ML can be as serious or casual as you want it to be, but you all know me –or will know me soon– and you know that what I decide to do, I take very seriously.
So I’ve been hatching plots and scheming over pastries and mugs of hot tea with my fellow MLs for over a month now. We’re having a NaNo Prep event this Saturday, and we have high hopes for talking abo...

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is Coming!
It is time to buckle down and prep for NaNoWriMo!
(I’ve actually been prepping since this summerwhen an idea came to me, and I started running to and fro with it.)
This year I am writing the first book in a series of mysteries. I was inspired by the audiobook work on the Viola Roberts Cozy Mysteries Series. This November I will be exploring the community of period re-creation societies and what sorts of things can go wrong putting together a little weekend event.
Maybe that sounds SUPER BORI...

Adventures in Narration: Poison in the Pudding
Pickups (fixing mistakes) for Poison in the Pudding are finished! Now on to the editing and mastering. This new novellaand accompanying audiobook will be available on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes in October!
I tried a couple of different things for this holiday season piece by Shéa Macleod, including a slight pose to embody a particular character, and a height shift for another. During the VO classesI took, the instructors indicated that even slight shifts like these result in a different sou...

Team CITC: Shea and Yvette talk about creating The Corpse in the Cabana together
Collaboration is my speed. Seriously. Why make great stuff unless you can make it for, and with, people who are awesome?
With that in mind, today’s post is a behind the scenes opportunity to hear just a little bit about what it was like for Shea and me, “Team CITC,” to put this audiobook together for you!
Q: What was your favorite thing or the best part about having CITC produced into an audiobook?
Shéa: My favorite thing was being able to work on my first self-published audio book with a r...

Adventures in Narration
Everyone around me was so supportive and curious about my first job as an audiobook narrator that I wrote many facebookposts and journalentries about the day-to-day process. For launching my new website, I decided to gather them all together hereand share the ups-and-downs.

So, when I was doing over voice and video production for my last employer, we turned the closet in my office into a recording booth.I got laid off, so I decommissioned it.
Now I’m planning to record a...

Time Traveling Again
In two weeks, for the third year in a row, I will be returning to the Oregon Caves Chateau for my favorite time travel event of the year. Please enjoy this re-post of my 2014 article describing my first experience with the Oregon Regency Society.
A Time Traveller’s Note
By Madame Bessey
My Dear Friend,
The date is 1814, and my incomparable location: the Oregon Caves Chateau. I have had an utterly joyful holiday at the Oregon Regency Society Annual Retreat. I feel quite gloomy that my visit...
