Disneyland Hotel Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar
An unexpected opportunity came up to do something fun midweek, which is our fave time to go on dates. Ryan and I have logged quite a few Disneyland and California Adventure trips, but never seen at the Disneyland Hotel and it’s cute little Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. Here’s how they describe it on the website, “Mystery, romance and adventure await you at this bewitching tiki bar inspired by the world-famous Jungle Cruise.” Sound good???
Watch Anji and Ryan’s enchanted getaway via YouTubeWe realllllllly lucked out with the perfect weather this afternoon. It’s back to more typically winter weather today with rain in the forecast. So stoked we were able to sneak in this little staycation.

VLOG: Taking A Mental Health Day With Ryan
Sometimes we need to take some time out for our mental health. Even the most chill seeming people can be stressed out, especially in the midst of the craziness of recent times. Working from home is already a lot, but sharing both a home and a business with your partner makes things even more complex, and when your work/art is focused on your personal life, well… let’s just say it’s complicated! Getting away — even if just for a few hours — into nature always seems to help us put life back into perspective. Combine a sunset and vegan restaurants and you’ve got one heck of nice little Tuesday getaway!

Walk Proud ‘Be Yourself’ Illustration By Anji Bee
In 1988 I created an illustration of the vocalist of Norwalk band, Walk Proud, for the cover art of their debut New Age Records release, “Be Yourself.” A credit on the back cover of the 7″ states “Cover Art: Anji,” though I didn’t create the cover artwork, per se. Chris Cole drew the logo and I have no idea who did the transfer letters of the title or the overall layout. My pen and ink illustration was used on the original cover art for the first pressing on black vinyl.

Interestingly, the cover art was initially composed of just my drawing of Lalo (in a smaller size) and Chris’ graffiti style logo (in a larger size) placed in a stacked formation. I found an entry on Discogs with a photo of this original design layout. In a 2018 interview with No Echo Mike Hartsfield of New Age Records said:
“I remember getting the 1000 black vinyl of NA01 Walk Proud Be Yourself records. They had a large hole in the center of the record (instead of a small hole which I had wanted, but probably never specified). The pressing plant agreed to take them back and repress them. I grabbed one with the big hole before sending them back. It’s in “the vault.'”

Discogs has entries for later pressings of the 7″ with various cover designs that use a black and white band photo from Last Word Zine that originally appeared on the back cover as the front cover image with different hand drawn band logos. It’s a bit disappointing that my drawing was dropped from the cover, but it’s cool to know that my illustration was featured on the original limited edition pressing of ‘Be Yourself’ by Walk Proud.
As a side note, I noticed that later pressings including my “jumping man” New Age logo on the fold out lyrics sheet, unlike the version that appeared in the first pressing of the EP.

For posterity’s sake, I’ll include the November/December 1988 scene news from Positive Influence #2 that shares some New Age news including this Walk Proud release:
WALK PROUD’s 7” out now, check out the cover artwork by Anji of PI, she also did the New Age logo. WP was delayed due to a mistake on the label stickers.

And to round out this blog post, here is the review of ‘Be Yourself’ that appeared in Positive Influence #3, January 1989:
The first New Age vinyl. Heard the master but haven’t received my copy yet (I did the cover drawing). The sound’s a little fuzzy, but better than the demo & the songs are speeded up a bit. Worth checking out.
I’ll throw in my review of the 9 song demo by Walk Proud, as well, since I mentioned it in the vinyl review. This appeared in the debut issue of Positive Influence released in October 1988:
Everything you’d expect from a So. Cal Posi-core band. Good lyrics dealing with SE, thinking for yourself, supporting your friends etc., set to energetic music. The only thing lacking is clear production.

My 2021 Top 20 Fave Songs
Even though it’s been a long while since I posted my last episode of The Chillcast with Anji Bee, I still make monthly (and sometimes weekly) playlists. Exploring new music is what makes me most happy! I’m an Apple Music user, but since more people seem to rely on Spotify, I took the time to recreate my yearly Top 20 Mix on my Anji Bee Spotify account for folks to check out.
You can consider this The Chillcast with Anji Bee 2021 Top 20 officially, though I do hope to sit down and record an actual podcast version for my Anji Bee MixCloud account at some point!
The Spotify player above will allow you to stream the full playlist (with commercial breaks) even if you don’t have an account. The Apple Music player below will only play you clips of the songs if you do not have an account.

BTS Permission to Dance in LA – I Was There on Day 2!
As you may or may not know, I am a pretty big BTS fan. I guess you could actually say I’m ARMY as I’ve even subscribed to the official fanclub the past 3 years. Ryan and I saw them perform at Rosebowl for the Love Yourself Speak Yourself tour and then I saw them again at the 2019 Jingleball, both of which I posted videos from on my YouTube channel. I had floor seats for the MOTS tour that was cancelled, and you better believe I cried my eyes out over that. I posted a video, too, about the terrible experience I had with the Ticketmaster pre-sale for the Permission to Dance in LA shows going on right now. Rampant errors on the site caused me to end up with what folks call “nosebleed seats” at the SoFi Stadium for Day 2. Sigh.
Honestly everything about the SoFi Stadium handling of this tour has been very unprofessional, from the lack of staffing and completely unorganized stadium entry system, poor sanitation — I could actually smell sewage from my seat in the last hour of the concert — to Ticketmaster not forewarning us that our view would be obscured by a gigantic unused screen on the ceiling. Plus the sound was terrible way up in the 500s with the roof closed! It was echoing like crazy and amplified the top end of the sound so that it was very crispy and hurt our ears. My ears are still ringing 2 days later! I don’t want to turn this into a rant blog, but suffice to say that I was not nearly as pleased by my experience here as I was with Rosebowl. I’ll just leave it at that.
Me being me, however, I did film a lot of the concert because I often find the sound is actually better on my recordings than what I experience in real time. I think my videos this night are definitely an improvement on what I heard, especially since they don’t seem to have all the screaming coming from behind me. I posted 2 videos to YouTube; one in my standard horizontal format and one in vertical format. There’s some great songs on each video as well as a good amount of the band’s “ments” — the Kpop term for “comments” that the band make to the audience. One video has their Intro Ments and the other has their End Ments. I have a ticket for Day 3 in a much closer section, so I am really looking forward to being able to hear and see them better! <3

Disneyland Festival of Holidays At CA Adventure Park 2021
Well well, lookee who found an open reservation for California Adventure Park?!? Ryan has been checking the Disneyland app pretty regularly and snagged us a spot so we were able to go check out the Festival of Holidays event going on now to see what plant based special menu items they have on offer this year. You may recall that in 2019 Disney pledged to have “400 new vegan dishes will all be rolled out by spring 2020.” So we were excited to see what goodies they offered vegans for the holiday at their 8 event-only kiosks, restaurants, and food/beverage carts. Come along on our holiday adventure!! Video and editing by Anji Bee.
JOIN US in letting Disneyland know that we want them to make good on their pledge to add a plant based option everywhere that sells food or beverages in the resort by writing them at: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/en-c…

Disneyland Holiday 2021 Vlog: New Vegan Dish!
You may have heard how hard it is to find reservation spots at Disneyland now that the holiday season is nearing. With our “Imagine” Key Pass for local residents, we have a lot of block out dates, including every weekend, so it’s been tough to find anything for November or December. So Ryan and I were stoked to see a random weekday spot open up just before the official launch of their Festival of Holidays!
Unlike my recent video highlighting just the vegan food at California Adventure Park, this is a classic vlog that shares the sights and sounds of the park — including the Main Street Christmas Tree, Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, and the holiday decorations at New Orleans Square — as well as the vegan food we ate and the rides and attractions we enjoyed throughout the day. One of the highlights was trying a brand new whole food plant based dish at the Orleans Cafe.
We also ride the recently reopened Big Thunder Railroad and the Haunted Mansion Holiday rides, explore Pirate’s Lair at Tom Sawyers Island, enjoy an omnibus ride through Main Street, hear Snow White sing at her grotto, and party at Oga’s Cantina in this 15 minute vlog. Come along and join the fun!!!
