Only a week late for First Friday LOL. Can I blame Mercury Retrograde? It’s finally going direct this weekend. I can def blame Chase Atlantic for making me stan out last Friday. Chillcast #472 – Love Lies (Stream via Mixcloud)

So many amazing vocals in this vibey mix chock full of the new new! All but 3 tracks are from 2018, so you’re guaranteed to hear something for the first time tonight. As always, I switch up genres a bit, but with everything on a chill tip. Thanks to Co-Sign for a few of these releases, including the brand new Moby, which just dropped TODAY! Anji Bee – Lonely Sunset Bandcamp Exclusive

This beautiful track has been languishing by the wayside, neglected and apparently forgotten for 5 years… The origin of “Lonely Sunset” was a progressive house instrumental that Aerotek uploaded to Soundcloud in 2012 and which Anji could not resist singing along to. A hasty vocal demo sent to Aerotek lead to an updated version of his original track, which lead to a record contract for an expanded single that included this catchy remix by Mobil. Unfortunately, Aerotek cancelled the contract before it’s scheduled Spring 2013 release. While his original version has been made public via an official music video on YouTube, this amazing Mobil mix has never seen the light of day. I thought it a shame that nobody should ever hear our work!

Haunting, yet upbeat, trance collaboration with Ukrainian producer Mobil. His dazzling melodic progressive style twinned with the shimmering vocals of Anji Bee is like a breath of warm summer air in the midst of snowy wintertime.

Chillcast #471: Y Do I Love U [Cupid’s Hunt Mix]

My 2018 Valentine’s Day mix explores many sides of love, dark and light, new and old, shared and unrequited. As always, my playlist flows from super chilled hip hop beats and rnb singers towards more upbeat electronica, but then I bring it back down a bit at the end. I’m never sure what genres to tag my sets, as there’s elements of so many in the songs I choose. I’m always going for vibe, and today’s vibe is def sexy. There’s a number of tracks from 2018 featured, with more recent 2017 tracks to fill in, and one classic cover tune from 2015 for fun.

Chillcast #470: Faves Tracks 2017

Couldn’t resist putting together a set of my favorite songs from the 2017 season of The Chillcast! I almost uploaded it yesterday, but I figured you all were busy celebrating New Year’s Eve and would appreciate the show more today. Hopefully this mix will help get your New Year started off right. This episode goes out to my loyal listeners who reached out to let me know they’d miss the show if I gave it up in 2018. Chillcast #469: Feel It [streaming on Mixcloud]

So unless I end up dropping a New Year’s Eve mix, this will be the last mix of 2017. Actually, I’m not totally sure if I’ll continue to do The Chillcast next year or not. This was my 11th year of podcasting, and I’ve gotta say, it feels a bit like a haunted house around here. I used to get 10,000 listens per episode, easy, when I was with PodShow/Mevio but now… well… just scroll down to see. I still love discovering music, I still love promoting new talent, I still love mixing and finding that perfect cross fade, I’m just not sure I know where to find an audience for it anymore. Maybe it’s just the holiday blues talking here, or maybe it’s because Dave’s Lounge just threw in the towel this month, but it feels like my show might be dead and I’ve just been in denial. Gone (F9 Mix) by Anji Bee Free on Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is now hosting the year 2000 classic Fishtank No. 9 mix of “Gone” by Anji Bee. Never commercially released, this song has been unavailable anywhere for over a decade. Now you can stream or download it in multiple audio formats for free! The entry includes retro artwork with a photo from their era, often seen in Bitstream Dream publicity.

Anji’s liner notes:

My first online music collaboration was a song called “Gone.” I had recorded what I thought were just scratch vocals for a demo using my computer mic in Peak on an iMac. I was listening to an instrumental mp3 via headphones on an eMachine — with just one earpiece on, so I could still hear myself sing. Then I copied the sound files to a Zip disc, transferred them onto the eMachine, and arranged them in Acid over the instrumental file. I included a few vocal recordings made the year prior on another computer, as well. It was very difficult to get the files all synced up correctly and was super time consuming. After I’d done the best I could, I added some basic digital effects and made a bounce that I was “90% happy with,” as my journal states. Anyway, all my work must’ve paid off as the online producer I sent my demo to not only immediately posted it to his mp3.com page, he also arranged to have a remix done by another online producer, known as Fishtank No. 9. I really loved how his mix turned out and still enjoy listening to it today, despite the fact that I ended up recording a much more professional version of these lyrics with my band, Lovespirals, a few years later. There are some cool ideas in this early version that didn’t make it to the Lovespirals version. I hope you get a kick out of it. BTW, War-n Harrison of Fishtank No. 9 soon went on to found the indie duo, Hungry Lucy, and we became longtime online friends.

Echoes Radio Interviews Falling You + Anji Bee

Falling You bandleader, John Zorko, joined Anji Bee in her home studio, along with fellow guest vocalist, Danielle Colbeck, to record an interview with John Diliberto for the nationally syndicated radio show, Echoes. This short artist feature focused on the new album, ‘Shine,’ which has been getting a lot of airplay on the show recently. Though the feature already aired live on the radio, you can now listen to the Echoes Podcast version of the Falling You Feature on iTunes
