Deserter and Some Quick Tips for NaNoWriMo

First off — Happy Halloween!!!

Second — the short story grown into a novella DESERTER is now available! Get it on Amazon here. This one won’t be available in print (unless it matters to a bunch of people) because it’s fairly short! ~18,000 words and 99¢.

What do you guys think of the cover? A little bit different.

Third — why am I so into numbered lists today? Weird. But the REAL third item is, if you haven’t read Dagger of Bone yet, it’s on sale this weekend — 99¢ in the US and £ 0.99 in the UK!

Mostly I just wanted to share the news...

Short stories, sleep deprivation, and sci-fi

I must be writing a ton of sci-fi this week, because I woke up one morning from a fully-faithful Tolkein-esque dream, complete with Gandalf as star. Guess my subconscious was ready for a bit of fantasy.

But too bad, because it’s space stations and ornery aliens right now in RK Thorneville!

The short story of DESERTER on Ellen’s past has actually transformed into a novella, so I’m trying to decide what to do with it. It’s pretty much done, just working on a cover, so that should be available...

My kingdom for a stationery store

This time of year, I have to admit, is both my favorite and least favorite. I hate the heat of summer, and where I live, this is the peak of it. Heat and humidity and blahhh. BUT! It’s also back-to-school time.

And yes, that was something I put in the “favorites” category. I never dreaded going back, at least not that I remember.

I loved school. I still love it. I love learning pretty much anything I can, in fact. And I especially loved the prep and the excitement. My brain in August was (...

Showers, Flowers, and Snow

My first book in the new Clanblades series Dagger of Bone is done! Confetti showers yaaaaa!

Meme with two people talking, one person saying So your book is done. The hard part is over now, right? And the other person saying Bless Your Heart. Because the hard work is just beginning!

My beta readers have the rough draft, so it’s begun its journey toward your Kindle. But I don’t know an exact date it will be in your paws just yet.

This was a really fun book, and I hope it’ll give you some light-hearted adventures this summer! Release date and cover are coming, stay tuned.

This takes place between Mage Strike and Star Mage, so if you haven’t read Mage Strike yet, spoiler warning! If you’re new to the series, get started with Mage Slave and come back after Book 2!

No spoilers for Book 3.

And now for the interview. If you’re vegetarian, you might want to sit this one out! Some of my best friends are veggies, but Miara is of a quite different persuasion….

MAGE STRIKE Playlist

For me, music is a huge inspiration in my work. If you couldbottle an emotion, I feel like songs do that for me. (Which is kind of a cool story idea… but let’s wait till the series in finished first, eh?)

So a lot of times I use songs to inspire in me the kinds of emotions my characters are feeling or the mood and atmosphere around them, and I think it helps me get in their heads. So here are some of the emotion bottles, er, music videos on Youtube I used in crafting Enslaved Chronicles Book 2...
