PROJECT RUNWAY.....Behind The Scenes of the "Dapper Dan"-Inspired Episode 5 Challenge

Fab Streetwear--Models (L to R) Asia, Aviana and Nora Sommerkamp in Dapper Dan-inspired designs from "Project Runway" Season 17 designers Venny Etienne, Bishme Cromartie and Renee Hill--Bravo's Project Runway Season 17, Brooklyn NY

Last week was Episode 5 of Bravo's "Project Runway" Season 17 . The Challenge was to design and create a look exemplifying "Luxury Streetwear" inspired by the one-and-only Dapper Dan ! The designers visited his Harlem Atelier and got his words of wisdom about the industry, his passion and his influence on streetwear style. As a Consulting Producer on this season, I got the chance to work behind-the-scenes during the episode...

And while the designers were out visiting his famed Harlem Design Studio, I was tasked to find Dapper Dan-inspired fabrics at Mood Fabrics NYC , that they would hopefully use for their designs during the challenge.

Here are my Behind-the-Scenes photos of meeting THE MAN...and much more:

PROJECT RUNWAY.....Behind The Scenes Bravo's "Project Runway": "Surviving In Style" UNCONVENTIONAL Challenge

Surviving In Style--Designs from "project Runway" Season 17 Designers (L to R) Jhoan "Sebastian" Grey, Rakan Shams Aldeen, Ranee Hill and Garo Sparo--Bravo's Project Runway Season 17 Episode 4 "Surviving In Style" Unconventional Challenge

Last week on Bravo's "Project Runway" Season 17 , it was time for an UNCONVENTIONNAL Challenge--one of the favorites of "Project Runway" fans (not so much of the designers....maybe just speaking from a very, very....personal point of view). The designers were driven to the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Staten Island (and so was I, as a Consulting Producer) and challenged to create designs from camping supplies (that yes, I helped pick--sorry!)...

Camp Nick--Nick Verreos at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds Staten Island--Bravo's Project Runway Season 17 Episode 4 "Surviving In Style" Unconventional Challenge

They had to sleep, as well as create their designs there. We had a TORRENTIAL rainstorm THE DAY OF the runway show and well, let me just tell you--it was a couple of days that I will never forget!

I am NOT a camping sort of fellow but luckily, my better half David Paul was there with me, helping us out with the supplies, camping workroom...as well as loading the designs onto trucks in the rain.....to get to the runway!

Here are my EXCLUSIVE behind the scenes photos:

FIDM.....FIDM Red Dress 2019--FIDM partners with American Heart Association to Create Designs

Red Dress Fab--Model Rina Karuna wearing designs from FIDM students for the FIDM Red Dress 2019 in partnership with the American Heart Association--FIDM Los Angeles

Each year, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM partners with the American Heart Association to have a select group of students to create pieces in honor of Go Red For Women . This year's students created dresses in various fabrics, ranging from velvet, satin, lace and neoprene. The students--hand-picked from various programs, including the Fashion Design major--worked on each dress for an entire quarter (10 weeks). The finished dress was then revealed in a presentation last week at the FIDM Los Angeles campus. As Co-Chair of the FIDM Fashion Design department, I was happy enough to witness the presentation. Here are photos form the event:

PROJECT RUNWAY.....Project Runway on Bravo--Behind The Scenes BLOG: Episode 2 "The Future of Fashion"

Backless Future Fashion--Behind the Scenes photos of models Mimi Tao and Sarah Victoria in designs from Bravo's "Project Runway" Season 17 designers Bishme Cromartie (L) and Venny Etienne (R)--A. Human "Future of Fashion" Challenge 2

In the second Challenge of this season's "Project Runway" on Bravo ...the designers were tasked with creating designs (in groups of three) to reflect the "Future of Fashion", incorporating body modifications from A. Human , an art installation of sorts showcased within the fashion realm. Back, neck and shoulder pieces are affixed to human models in a fashion-like manner to almost look like sci-fi creatures but at the same time to resemble fashionable details such as Elizabethan neck ruffles, exaggerated shoulders, back embellishments, etc. As a Consulting Producer for the show, I got some Behind-the-Scenes photos...take a look:

This past Thursday night was the Premiere of Season 17 of "Project Runway" , back on Bravo TV, the network that aired the first FIVE seasons of the reality competition show--of which I was part of in Season 2 and judged in Season 6. I am a Consulting Producer on the show and was lucky enough to have exclusive access to the behind-the-scenes action. Instead of recap'ing each episode, I will post fun "backstage" photos of what went on while doing my consulting producing duties.

First up is the Premiere Episode. For this first episode, the designers/contestants were asked to bring designs from home that best represented who they were as designers to a party-like atmosphere so the show's judges--Supermodel Karlie Kloss , Elle Magazine Editor-in-Chief Nina Garcia , Designer Brandon Maxwell and Journalist/Editor and former Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue, Elaine Welteroth --could ascertain the new designer's aesthetic. Here are photos from the first episode "party", as well as backstage model photos with the designer's designs + more--Enjoy!
